Republicans have steadily experienced election defeat in the last coastal county [besides Del Norte] in California. Once living behind the 'Orange Curtain' was the last refuge for the California GOP. Middle/ upper middle-class, Orange county with its beautiful beaches defied all other surrounding SoCal counties as the red pimple of Republicanism in the state. But things began to change a few decades ago as Republicans began to lose the county that Reagan called the place Republicans go to die. And "dying" is the literal reality for the GOP across the West.

Can Republicans survive the next election in California?

“This is the death of the Republican Party” in California, said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant in the state. “There’s no coming back from this for at least a generation, if not more.” https://www.politico.com/story/2018/12/01/california-2018-gop-what-happened-1036940

Here's what many Republicans refer to as their "darkest hour" but now face total annihilation in California next year. I wonder if there is another state where one political party has completely disappeared. Must to real humiliation that the GOP is rejected in the most populous/ popular state in America.

All may not be lost for Republicans as this article points out that Trump caused the huge losses in the Nov 2018 election. OC Republicans still hold an razor thin edge of 34% versus 33% for Democrats. 'Trump hate' drove the voter participation to 71% resulting in the shattering defeat of the GOP.

The California GOP is conflicted over those in the party who are repulsed by Trump and voted Democratic in both 2016 and 2018. On-the-other-hand, Trump supporters resent that decency and basic human values are being imposed by 'RINO' Republicans and are willing to remain outliers to the point of extinction. The Romney/ McCain/ Bush types will prevail but the long-lasting consequences of Trump will likely take "generations" to overcome.

I think the answer is simpler. Demography plus legal ballot harvesting = Democratic victory.

Why do you seem shocked that Ballot Harvesting works when the system is rigged in your party's favor. Why the surprise.

I see you resort to the usual litany of anti-California bias rather than address the topic. My sense is that what is happening in Orange county righly terrifies Republicans across the nation especially considering the same phenomena of Republicans crossing over to vote for Democrats occurred in several suburban regions besides California last year. I have lived long enough to see the metamorphose/ metabolization of Republicans materialize since Richard Nixon's fateful decision to welcome 'Dixiecrats' into the GOP. That kind of crude mentality is epitomized in Trump.

No I actually addressed it with factual data.

As the Republicans leave, or "die" as you put it, so does CA.

Enjoy the results of the changes.

Don't lose sleep waiting for the demise of California. Perhaps the real nightmare is what Trump has done to accelerate the decline of the GOP. Wake up, Republicans!

Thanks for your concern, but the decline of the GOP would have been even more acute without Trump, Absent him from the 2016 election, than Hillary wins.

Why so upset? Thanks to demographic change the decline of the GOP is inevitable anyway. All you guys have to do is be patient and not be crazy, but that seems to be asking too much.

How has the GOP declined? It certainly hasn't declined as much as CA has in the last 40 years.

Would you like to revisit how many seats Obama lost?

Party in the WH always loses seats, except for a couple cases back to the 60's.

That is so fatalistic. Californian's remember Reagan's legacy through the prism of his governorship. My father was a "Reagan Democrat". Two of the new congressmen representing Orange county were ex-Republicans. Old school Republicans in Orange county don't recognize their party anymore.

You can hate reality or help change it. Trump is costing Republicans bigtime. I fully expect some Republicans to return to the GOP someday. Americans are desperately waiting for that day.

Or I can just laugh at the obvious desperation of leftists trying to convince others of nonsense.

I'm fine either way, because here's reality:

If you lose at the ballot box, you lose.

If you win at the ballot box, you still lose.

Wherever leftist ideology takes hold in the world, misery follows. In that miserable world, the weak (i.e leftists) do not survive.

Those of us who do survive get to rebuild a sane, safe world, where the waste by-product of safe, sane countries (i.e leftists), begins to build up again.

    It's just a cycle.

This is why raving insane leftists only exist in 1st world countries.

Both the Republican and Democratic Party has changed since Reagan was governor of California, but the reliably leftist Mother Jones has a pretty good reason why Democrats rule there, and it has nothing to do with Trump.

California and the Myth of Proposition 187

It's simple. Demography is destiny. Trump has nothing to do with it.
