Wow, you're highly misinformed. Can Republicans Stop Patients From Leaving the State for an Abortion? Some Are Willing to Try. In March, anticipating the very decision that Alito drafted, a Missouri lawmaker introduced an amendment that copies Texas’s bounty-hunter law to allow private citizens to sue people who help abortion patients leave the state. In recent years, thousands of Missourians have already been crossing the border to Illinois for abortions, many more than have been able to be seen by the state’s last remaining clinic. The provision didn’t succeed this time around, but its author, state Representative Mary Elizabeth Coleman, wasn’t wrong when she responded to claims the provision was unconstitutional by telling the Washington Post, “That’s what they said about the Texas law, and every bill passed to protect the unborn for the last 49 years.” It’s only unconstitutional until you get the right court. In a forthcoming paper, Cohen and co-authors Greer Donley and Rachel Rebouché argue chillingly that the governing law is by no means settled. “The Constitution’s general prohibition of state restrictions on interstate travel, burdens on interstate commerce, or application of a state’s law outside its borders should make it difficult for antiabortion states to enforce these laws,” they write. “Yet, these constitutional defenses are underdeveloped and subject to debate, leaving federal courts as the ultimate arbiters of these interjurisdictional battles.” How access to abortion changes if Roe v. Wade is overturned
Here is a little fact that many liberals are probably not aware of..... It wasn't all that long ago that Biden was against roe v Wade. He said he thought the supreme Court decision went too far. You won't hear that on CNN
I dare them to try. They can't do sh*t about it, and you, sir, and that is being generous, are just fear mongering, as are those you're quoting. I've driven all over this country in my lifetime, and never once ran into anything but a welcome center at or near a State line. That will not change, and I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is, if you are, too. $100 to your favorite charity vs. $100 to mine (which is the Dentalfloss Disability Fund) says what you're saying doesn't happen.
Not really. The right to do anything you want with a firearm pales in significance to your right to bodily autonomy.
So you are concerned about some rights and not others. OK. It seems like the whole "bodily autonomy" thing has been litigated quite a bit over the past 2 years or so. I can't recall your position on that. Where do you stand?
And when women reach out to these agencies for help they are referred to as "Welfare Queens". (The African-American ones anyway. Maybe not the White ones). Just admit it. Abortion is about CONTROL. It's not about saving the lives of babies. If it was about saving babies lives, there would be more safe guards against wealthy women getting abortions. And wealthy women get abortions whether they are LEGAL OR NOT.
Women who keep purposely/extreme negligence, having children and let the state take care knowing they don't have the means to take care of the kids, have issues and abortion isn't going to be the thing that fixes it.
I'm surprised that no Republican has suggested allowing fetuses to carry firearms. Fetuses exercising their 2nd Amendment rights would stop abortions toot sweet.
Bracing for the fall of Roe: A Memphis clinic prepares patients for a likely end of abortion care An abortion clinic in Memphis, Tennessee, is continuing its work treating patients in what are likely the last days of abortion’s being a constitutionally protected right in this country. Clinic workers warn patients there is uncertainty about whether they could keep their appointments, depending on when the critical Supreme Court decision lands. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...rdwE7W4V3xPtdeWGsZXKQlJPbIlcKu/kFmduNEwUBAAA=
the right will kill it, which will just motivate the left to get out and vote more and eventually it will be reversed again
I think it's more likely that all states will eventually have exceptions to whatever restrictions they put on abortions.
possible, dems will take over states that do not even Texas has to be careful or they could lose power
In response to the question posed in the topic line, we now have a definitive answer: no. Regards, stay safe 'n well.
Indeed we do. and with that decision this country has stepped back into the dark ages. This is imposing one set of values on the entire nation......... on what i s a very personal decision. The retro rep mindset is so backwards it can't even discuss sex education.........or make sure the young have access to same. This is a religious based ruling........... and not everyone belongs or wants to belong to that same "religion'" The courts are supposed to remain non political .......and yet this is s political as the weapons issue. Folks just don't get it......... If they don't want to have an abortion........then don't........but don't tell others what to do in these very personal decisions. It is no one's business except the woman, her medical advisor and maybe the sperm doner. (except in cases of rape etc) Who is going to support, educate and provide medical care to all these unwanted kids now?? ow about the mental health of an unwanted child?? Who will provide them with the parenting that they need........when the parent is too busy surviving herself?? Who will pay the child support payments.....when the so called dad refuses to?? What about kids born with special needs?? Will they be institutionalized?? Ho w many will grow up on the streets because they lack a core family structure?? or adequate parenting/?
Hi, MiaBleu. Thank you for your extensive reply to my post. A couple of things popped up in a quick check of my reference shelf. "The willingness of A to tell B what to do is one of the defining characteristics of the human species. "A Manual For Those Wishing To Become People", Jasper Windful, Chelm Press, 2011, Gotham, GA. and, of course, this gem. "Position, n. An ideological point on the political map. To take a position is to plant both feet firmly on an undefined location. The basic map coordinates are ego and the political zeitgeist. "A politician, one fine day Said, with a lofty air: 'I'm standing on my principles. I'm sure you'll find them fair.' "And then he turned and walked away. I checked the floor with care; Examined where he just had stood, But there was nothing there." A Modern Dictionary, Fragmentary Press, 2016, Chelm, IA Both books are presently out of print. Regards, stay safe 'n well.
First of all, short of a hysterotomy or testicle removal, there is not a single 100% reliable birth control method. Well technically abstinence with NO sexual contact at all Even the pre-cum can contain sperm, as well as it can be spread by other methods (I'll make all the males here cringe if I were to describe it). Then on top of that, you have pregnancies by rape. And yes both of those might account for a small percentage of abortion reasons, but they are still significant enough to counter the idea of only carelessness resulting in unwanted pregnancies. And then we add in all the abortions that are based in medical decisions, ones where the mother's life is in danger, or problems with the offspring where it is likely they will suffer or die if born. And for those that die in the womb but are not miscarried. That happens you know. And abortion is the solution to getting it out.
Incorrect. The line is viability, which, depending upon the definition used (varies by state and country) can occur late into the 2nd trimester or beginning of the 3rd. Currently, with NICU help, the 50% chance that is considered viability is about 24 weeks, give or take. In some countries that line is much later as they are defining it by the 50% chance to live without extreme medical intervention. Ireland is one such place.
There are actually a lot of us pro-choice supporters that disagreed with RvW as a case and ruling. This issues that truly supports the idea of choice is bodily autonomy not privacy. Disagreeing with RvW in and of itself is not an indication of pro-life or against po-choice.
No that can't fix the problem, but it can prevent other problems from cropping up as a result, such as more children in poverty and straining the system. Sometimes I think the more extreme conservatives just want more people to watch suffer, instead of preventing that suffering before it starts.
