Personally I think definitely not but that's not the point, it's to blacken his name during the election year and try to prevent him appointing a new conservative SCOTUS judge when RBG retires.

No the point is to keep him so distracted by the impeachment, that he stops looking for new ways to exploit his office to cheat further in 2020, and to to remind underlings that they too can be subjects of congressional subpoenas and the reach of federal or state criminal law. If they don't like hefty legal bills, they should be careful what they do for Donald.

Face it Trump thrives on the ambivalence of his opponents. Its time for someone to show some spine and offer some consequences to the yes men of President Trump.

I do agree that a lot of the energy and froth for impeachment does deal directly with the upcoming retirement/death of Justice Ginsburg, it should be remembered that all that is required for anybody to be simply "impeached" is a majority vote in the House. Hell, these goofy Democrats can impeach Trump for burning popcorn in a microwave, if they want to!

The thing that just burns my ass to a crisp is that these dirty hypocrite bastards pay no attention whatsoever to the CRIMES that Joe Biden and his child committed -- which were the underlying cause for Trump's actions in the first place!

You know who's going to be the only person smiling when this horrific sh*t-slinging fest is over with? Dizzy Lizzy Warren!

The vote to convict may not succeed, but the impeachment will.

Oh the house will vote to send impeachment to the Senate but it will die there like a Kennedy date on a rainy night.

it;s not intended to succeed it's intended to put doubt on his reelection bid..

then when the senate refuses to do anything with it dems will use their inaction to demonize senate republicans.

It is important to remember how this works:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_in_the_United_States

Odds are very good that the House of Representatives will Impeach Trump. What that means is that by a simple majority vote the Democrats can pass Articles of Impeachment, which is the equivalent of a Grand Jury Indictment. It is the formal complaint that requires an action by a court to determine guilt.

The Senate is then required, has no choice in the matter, but to hold a trial, very similar to a criminal trial in any other court. The Prosecution is brought by the House, the Senate as a whole is the jury. There are witnesses, cross examinations, the works. A guilty verdict only comes upon a two-thirds majority.

This is where Trump "wins". There is no where near enough honor and patriotism left in the Senate or the House to both impeach and convict a President. Not anymore, not these days. Not for a Republican or for a Democrat. There is the possibility, and a good one, of an indictment in the House if the President is not of the majority party there, but onyl because of the simple majority needed.

Once you get to the upper majority requirement for conviction, that's it. All done. This is not the era of principled men telling Nixon to quit or be fired. Those days are dead.

Good odds on Impeachment, none at all on Conviction.

Not exactly correct, The Senate has the full power to try or not try the president. Went to the SCOTUS in 1993 They also said " The Senate has the sole power"

The same liberals who called the last house a "Do nothing Congress" are a glaring example of hypocrisy.

Yes, I see your point. The Senate can act in a partisan and dishonorable way, ignoring oath of office, their own rules, tradition and precedent and scuttle any impeachment trial brought to them by the House of Representatives. Here is one discussion on the point:

Define success. If they can't sell it to the American people, it won't play to their advantage, but to their disadvantage. And of course, on a personal level, eating a Snickers bar would be more satisfying than a partisan impeachment.

The house will impeach him, the Senate will not convict.
