Will the United States have a fourth Covid-19 wave?

The likely reason for low Covid numbers in Africa is the generations long widespread use of HCQ.

 

I'm a bit reassured by the last three days. Weekend data usually does show a drop due to incomplete reporting; by Tuesday data will catch up. But for the last three days we had 46K, 46K, and 56K new cases, way less than last week even considering the usual Tuesday peak, and deaths remained below 850 per day. So, our rapidly evolving vaccine deployment may be winning the war against the new variant.

 

Concerning piece of info, new cases in Michigan have surged by 122% over two weeks, after the governor reopened several activities. Michigan is the state with the second biggest proportion of B.1.1.7 cases, after Florida.

I think I'll ask a moderator to change the title of this thread. Part of the issue that this thread is not more frequented, like someone here said, is that people look at the title and don't know what it's about.

And there we go... yesterday, almost 77,000 new cases (not to forget, testing numbers have dropped so this my be underestimated) and almost 1,300 deaths.
Two weeks ago we were at 43,000 daily new cases and one week ago at 466 deaths.
So despite the vaccination, numbers are going up again.
Are the variants winning the battle against vaccination?

 

Which is the dominant variant?
I thought it was the Kent one which is not resistant to the current vaccines?

 

It is not resistant to the current vaccines but there aren't enough vaccinated people yet. That's why I've been phrasing this as a battle between vaccines and variants. If we vaccinate everybody than we stop the variant B.1.1.7 (UK Kent). There are two other variants, though, the B.1.351 and the P.1 that are still susceptible, but less susceptible to the vaccines.

 

Ah, I misread that. I thought you said variants winning the battle against vaccines.
Over here they are starting to worry about running out of vaccines now.
They think that the rate of vaccination is going to slow down as supplies get low.

 

Yes, especially because you're in a battle with the European Union for vaccines.
If only you hadn't left the European Union...
(Although in this particular case the EU seems to be doing worse than you are... but I just mean, you wouldn't be having this issue of the AstraZeneca factories in Europe not being able to export to the UK)

 

Actually, on this occasion I'm glad we left the EU and I'm pro-EU.
They are miles behind us in vaccinations and ahead of us in new cases. Our cases and deaths are falling while theirs are rising.
It's not a good time to be an EU supporter.

 

Which leads me to ask if there are any vaccines or equipment for them stuck on the Ever Given?
