I don't wear a mask at home, neither does my wife.

Unless you are doing social distancing at home, you've got potential exposure. If one of us got sick, we'd do what we can, but there are limits.

Absolutely hilarious how SOME think that not wearing a mask is a sign that "nobody can tell me what to do, I'm an American"

So these people throw their garbage into the street?

    Drive 80 in a 30 zone?

    Don't pay taxes?

    Walk around in public naked?

    Don't register their vehicles ?

    Don't insure their vehicles?

Drive on the wrong side of the freeway?

    Don't school their children?

    Don't pay property taxes?

    Don't leash their dogs?

    Don't report crimes?

Don't have their septic tanks pumped on a regular schedule?

Let their yards turn into junkyards?

Give rock concerts in their residential neighborhoods at 2 AM every night of the week?

    Insist ALL life is PRECIOUS?

Really ? Nobody can tell them what to do?

LOL....but not wearing a mask....THAT shows their "independence" ???? ASSININE!

You are incorrect. Household members only have a 17% chance of infection from an infected family member. You could cut the chance of infecting your wife by 80% down to a 3.5% chance of infecting her. Why let your ego and selfishness get in the way of her safety. Not to mention all the people she could spread it to as well.

Transmission is many times more likely to happen in the home. It’s just a fact. Why would you choose not to protect yourself and others you love from the most likely source of infection? I get the fact you want freedom from masks at home. It’s not fun or convenient. But not doing so prolongs the pandemic and endangers your family and the general public.

You are a thinking person. Perhaps using logic and science you can offer an intellectual argument against wearing masks at home. Remember what’s off the table though as excuses.
    1) Inconvenience—healthcare workers wear masks for 12 hours straight and military personnel wear full PPE in the desert.
    2) Health concerns—Masks do not cause oxygen deprivation or elevated blood gas CO2 concentrations. Nor are they associated with other bacterial and viral infections from prolonged use.
    3) Shortages—you can make your own and clean/disinfect them at home.
    4) Freedom—this is a terrible pandemic. Rights are important but since mask usage in the home would be the most effective tool we have now to save lives your freedom is negated by the fact your actions of not wearing a mask at home impact me physically and economically.
    5) Effectiveness—the science is “clear”. Wearing a mask decreases the risk of you infecting another by up to 80%. It can reduce your personal risk by 65%.
    6) I’ll get it anyway at home with an infected household member excuse. Unprotected, the chance of a household member contracting C19 from an infected member is around 17%. A mask reduces that to 3.5%.

Healthcare workers wear masks around infected individuals to reduce their chance of infection. Masks can’t tell if they are in a hospital or your kitchen. They work the same. (Yes you can make a mask as effective as an N95 if you want to).

I’m probably missing some of the reasons touted for masks in public but you get the idea. The AIDS analogy is spot on by the way. :)

Nobody I know of wears a mask at home. The question is why not in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence it would make huge inroads in stopping the pandemic. Is it because of “muh rights”? Lack of concern for others? Because nobody you have ceded your autonomy to has told you to?

    I’m genuinely curious.

There's just the two of us. I think I've already had it, and if my wife got it, she never had any symptoms.

We sleep together, eat together, etc. We have one bathroom..

I just don't see the point.

Just because I don’t wear a mask doesn’t mean I will cause harm. Nor do I have disdain for a fellow human being. It’s not like people are brandishing a gun, which is a example of what could actually cause harm.

Covid is a matter of if you catch it, not when. I’m not going to subscribe to the paranoia of the “what if’s.” If the nation we’re smart, we would have followed Sweden’s lead of a government that actually acts appropriately. Recommend d people do certain things, don’t force them. At that point, you’re a authoritative government. If you start jailing free thinkers, you become a tyrannical government. A state has lost its mind, a good example is Colorado. They are threatening to jail free thinking citizens that listen to the clueless governor. Or serve massive fines. At that point, you can’t leave your head in the sand any longer.

One way you can tell someone has still to realize the totality of what is going on is when they deny, if not justify, turning the nation into one big manic hypochondriac

I wouldn't expect those who ignore context to know what it means.

You have no idea if you are sick. You have no idea if when you breathe out, you are sending a virus out 30 feet for anyone in its' path to catch. You have NO way of knowing. Quit pretending you are the knower of all things unknowable. You just sound silly. You could have it, have ZERO symptoms, and be spreading symptoms, Typhoid Mary style.

I get you don't understand science. I get you don't want to understand science. It's kind of silly to come here and brag about it, though.

I understand science. Just because I don’t buy into the mask ideology does not mean I don’t believe in science. I’ll cite Sweden as a example of something they did right that America has gotten wrong. The Swedish people had a choice. To dine out, to dine in. To wear or not to wear a mask. And they didn’t downplay science like I’m not downplaying science. Sweden got it right because they gave people choice, and while they don’t have the same rights we do, they look more like America than we do.

If Sweden can get it right, how can America not get it right as well? And it’s not even that hard of a switch to make.

What is it about post #287 that you couldn't understand? I can't make the blind see or the deaf hear, so I guess you'll just have stay in your bunker with a mask on for the rest of your life, and hope that one of those little buggers don't get trapped in your nose.

this is sharia law, but the President has made a lawful order

Americans must comply until sharia is lifted.

Oh just admit it. Every day you don't wear a mask at home is a day you put your wife at risk of dying. If she ever does die of covid, it won't be any of us that caused it, it will likely be you.

He's made it pretty clear that he doesn't CARE if he gets people sick or dead...he thinks we're all going to get it anyway

I'd respond if I thought you were serious and not trolling.

You're not and you are so I won't bother

Everyone is their own earthly master. As a supposed "libertarian", I would think you would know this and stop siding with the fear-mongers and authoritarians. Instead, you become one of them.

This is exactly why many places have gone from advising the wearing of masks to mandating them.
Act like children and you will be treated like children.

It really is. It demonstrates beautifully how much the masks slows things down. That vapor would go everywhere without that mask. I know, because I vape. Huge difference. Best video to prove masks do prevent the droplets from your mouth from travelling far distances!!
