... or, at least, to the 2020 GOP presidential nomination.

    .....As I was saying ...

He had nailed the self-proclaimed "King of Debt!" to his imaginary Wall:

Romney was prescient when he predicted that Trump’s tax plan would
“balloon the national debt” - an issue long of purported major concern to Republicans before the party took a knee for Trumpery.

"We will only really know if he’s a real deal or a phony if he releases his tax returns … I predict that there are more bombshells in his tax returns… And I predict that despite his promise to do so, first made over a year ago, that he will never ever release his tax returns. Never! not the returns under audit; not even the returns that are no longer being audited. He has too much to hide. If I’m right, you’ll have all the proof you need to know that Donald Trump is indeed a phony. "

It was as if Romney had barged into a Trump dressing room and caught him bare-arsed!

"But you say, wait, wait, wait, isn’t he a huge business success? Doesn’t he know what he’s talking about? No, he isn’t and no, he doesn’t!"

He shredded the reality tv entertainer’s fake resumé:

"Look, his bankruptcies have crushed small businesses and the men and women who work for them. He inherited his business, he didn’t create it. And whatever happened to Trump Airlines? How about Trump University? And then there’s Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks and Trump Mortgage. A business genius he is not…."

    A squalid human being, indeed:

"... this is an individual who mocked a disabled reporter, who attributed a reporter’s questions to her menstrual cycle, who mocked a brilliant rival who happened to be a woman due to her appearance, who bragged about his marital affairs, and who laces his public speeches with vulgarity…"

"... Think of Donald Trump’s personal qualities. The bullying, the greed, the showing off, the misogyny, the absurd third grade theatrics.

There’s plenty of evidence that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake. Mr. Trump has changed his positions not just over the years, but over the course of the campaign."

"He’s playing the members of the American public for suckers. He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat!"

Watch for Willard to suppress his repugnance for rabid Trumpery whilst he focuses upon his Utah stepping stone, the ideal launch for his mission as the Republican Redeemer:

Trump did relatively poorly in Utah, winning only 45 percent of the vote in 2016, compared to Romney’s 73 percent in 2012 and John McCain’s 62 percent in 2008. Indeed, Utah is an outlier in the sense that it is ruby red but has also given Trump relatively tepid marks so far.

"Oh, yeah! Well, he was born on Planet Kolob,
    and wears magic underwear!"

    ......

Since the Democrats have no leadership and no one to beat the Republicans, it wouldn't surprise me to see Romney try and make a jump here.

The Republicans are spineless and stand for nothing but fear and xenophobia.

I would love to see Romney give Trump a Primary battle.

The pantload in the White House will be seen as a YOOJ drag on Republican candidates throughout most of the nation in November.

Self-preservation will have them seeking a presidential candidate that isn't a back-stabbing embarrassment. Willard will be viewed as someone who can make the party great agin.

I agree with the OPer than Mitt Romney could easily win the Democratic Primary for how popular he now is with Democrats, but he would then lose in the general election.

We already know the answer is yes.

Romney furiously switched parties in 2016 and became the Democrats loudest attack dog against the Republican candidate and Republican Party. His campaign again Trump and the Republican Party failed.

Was a Republican, is still a Republican. Perhaps he will help give voice to the sane, normal Republicans again and bring the party back from the brink.

No, he fully switched parties in 2016.

It is comical reading Democrats bragging of how great Romney is. Of course Democrats want BITTER MALCONTENT REPEATED LOSER ROMNEY TO RUN.

Democrats should run Hilary Clinton again. She'd give voice to the sane, normal Democrats again and bring the party back from the brink.

I'm sure you felt quite differently about Romney when he was running against 0bama. You and so many others have gone completely insane thanks to the two-party system. You can't be objective.

I don't care who does it, but someone has to speak up for the majority of American conservatives who do not, deep down and personally, support the con man and his little cult. Can't count on the current crop of Congressional Republicans, obviously.

The Democrats are doing OK. #BlueWave2018 is coming ;)

    Will romney voters support trump?

When Trump first announced his ambition to be President, many Republicans thought that notion to be absurd.

They were surprised that they were allowed to be proven right, even many who are playing along with the joke.

Willard's presidential ambition and willingness to speak what many Republicans are thinking of Trump will be unleashed when it's time.

Romney has been perfectly clear of his opposition to Donald Trump. Romney would continue to be another sore loser malcontent seeking retaliation about Republicans for his lose, like Linsey Graham, Rand Paul and John McCain. If Romney would urge no one to vote Republican in the 2016 election, why would he do any different in 2020?
