Nah, the U.S. is the Wild West where anything goes. Common sense rules would take away some of the drama.

When I early voted in 2018, they had transitioned from paper signatures to digital signatures, my first signature wasn't even close to the signature they had on file and the volunteer noted that... for a second I thought we were going to be dealing with an issue, but I provided my ID, my voter card and was allowed to resign (more carefully this time) and the sig matched to her satisfaction. Until that happened I was all prepared to make a stink about it because signing a digital pad raised on an angled platform vs pen/paper on a flat surface shouldn't be expected to be exact matches. (FWIW my standard digital signature is quite illegible, just a worthless scribble to be honest, I even tend to be pretty sloppy when signing credit card slips too)

side note: I haven't moved in over 2 decades, but my polling location has changed three times in that period of time, once it was quite a distance away from home, in a really stupid spot, but I persevered and was able to vote, so before some clown comes in and says moving the polling locations around is another kind of suppression or hardship can stick it sideways. Suck it up buttercup

That's broward county, it would be disappointing if they didn't try to cheat.

There is NO STAY that's the point.

"The commission asked appeals courts to put the ruling on hold while the legal fight continues, but none of the courts have done so. Malloy said that’s irrelevant to his ruling.

“You have this court order, you have an appeal, and a petition to the Supreme Court. But nothing has told this court that it can’t act,” Malloy said."

The stays have been turned down. The law is the law and the election commission has been ordered to comply. And yes time is of the essence to complete the purge and allow people who believe they were mistakenly purged to be reinstated and the new voters list compiled.

If you move to a new district THAT is where you vote. You don't get to vote for a council member if you don't LIVE IN that district. You don't get to vote for the mayor if you don't live in that city. You don't get to vote for a state legislator if you do not live in their district.

If you move it is YOUR responsibility to reregister in the district in which you live.

not going to argue since if it came down to that I wouldn't object, but honestly, when I renew my vehicle registration its pretty simple and automated, I don't have to prove I still own the car and they only spot check the insurance (3% IIRC <which is ludicrous). So If I had to renew my voter registration every couple of years it wouldn't be upsetting to me, but could be very complicated for others depending on the documentation required.

You can go onsite to their Secretary of State and see what documentation they required and that it must be something everyone carries with them everyday is not a requirement. And genuine voter suppression is rare at best and not limited to the GOP. The best way not to be "suppressed" is to keep our voter registration up to date and that burden is no the voter.

right, but who's responsibility is it to de-register you in the district in which you no longer live? I'm not sure how that is coordinated, or if its coordinated at all.

Integregity of the voter rolls can be made to sound reasonable because it IS reasonable. It can be made to sound unreasonable only if you are parroting democratic talking points. The Georgia story about name matching from a couple years back is a good example, Dem's made the argument that POC wouldn't be able to fill out a postcard as efficiently as a white person = suppression, and of course their assumptions are racist as well. Personally I feel like people of ALL skin tones can fill out a postcard with equal skill levels so IMO their argument was ridiculous.

They made a big stink in Florida after hurricane matthew (I think that was the one) that they wanted to extend the registration deadline (29 days) due to the storm, people that have had years, or possibly decades to register somehow need 3 extra days because of a storm. Sorry, if you miss the deadline you can only blame yourself, but that didn't' stop the dem's from name calling. All the name calling and accusations have fallen on deaf ears with me, its been so overused that I don't even listen to their crying anymore.

Also it's a pretty easy/quick thing to do. You'll probably wait in line if you arrive around rush hour.

I agree with you, but the point of the article and the ruling, though, I believe, is people who moved but are still registered to vote in Wisconsin. This judge wants these people removed from the voting roles, but for whatever-the-hell reason folks are fighting him.

Fair enough. I think @Badaboom's idea of linking it to taxes is even better.

It really shouldn't be that difficult in this day and age to have a national database, which can also pick up double/duplicitous registrations, and which can also pick up folks who are registered to vote even though they've been recorded as deceased, and then require ID at the time of voting to confirm the person is who they claim to be.

POC know how to get their driver registration tags every year and they will wait in line out the door and around the street corner to get it, to me it's easier to register to vote.

I do mine by mail most of the time but online and in person is available. The primary concern of the dmv/tax collector is whether or not the check clears, to my knowledge they don't verify if I still own the vehicle and only spot check to see if I insure it properly according to state laws.

However, they do cross reference against the titles IF the person I sold the vehicle/boat to re-registered the title in their name, because I've had boats/cars I've sold that I didn't' get a renewal for, but in once instance where the new owner of my boat just didn't bother and I had to manually fill out a form to indicate that I sold it and when, it was a weird one because I didn't even know the last name of the new guy and only had an approximate date by searching my texts related to the craigslist ad.

If they can cross check the VIN # of a vehicle, seems like they could cross check the ss# of voters as well, assuming they have everyone's ss#, i'm not sure if they do.

When I worked in fraud analysis for a major credit card company we had access that allowed us to see death records, if someone had moved, if someone appears to have moved, current financial records, who lives with them (or who they live with) and a ton of other data including vehicle registration as well as some bills being sent to their last known address...

This is a targeted effort to disenfranchise voters, especially young voters.

“The affected voters come more heavily from Democratic areas of Wisconsin, including Milwaukee and cities with college campuses.”

Voting registration should happen automatically at 18 and it should remain active until a person moves or dies.
This “purging” every time we get close to an election shows just how desperate one party has become to cheat.

I have no problem with how we go about getting our driver registration every year, it should be the same for voting.

Driving is not a right — voting is
Would you be ok having to register firearms every year and if you fail to do so you lose that right until you submit the proper paperwork?

I'm arguing about the process not the right. To say POC would have trouble registering to vote every year is IMO not true. They go to get their auto registration just fine. That's all I'm saying don't get it twisted.

Voter suppression is a Deep State coup attempt, complete with FISA court fraud, attempting to disenfranchise almost half the country.

They need those votes to tip elections and get popular vote. Why do you think they love illegals? Votes.

It's pretty simple. No problem with purging voters lists of deceased/moved voters, but it has been proven time and time again that these computer generated purges end up with a lot of false positives. It is also undeniable that we just don't spend the money on an infrastructure that can efficiently deal with registered voters. I for one have been initially turned away at my polling station by some little old lady who insited that I was not registered, and I had to argue until someone realized that she was looking at the wrong book. I subsequently moved to France and have received my ballot in 2012 5 days AFTER the election, and nerver got it in 2016. I phoned the appropriate number many times leading up to the election but all I ever got was an answering machine telling me to phone back later.
I for one, DO beleive in a voter idea that should be issued at birth or at naturalization and would be phased in gradually. Unfortunately, too many people beleiving in state's rights and people not willing to invest the money to set up such a program. Until this oldest generation that does sometimes have difficulty tracking down their paperwork dies out I am sticking with the no ID necessary plan.
Most people when they move do not deregister from the place from which they moved, and are indeed registered in two places. Our system stinks because we do not put the money into it, or make use of federal capabilities.
Here is a list of people who were registereed in two states
    • Steve Bannon, Mr. Trump’s strategist, was registered to vote in Florida and New York, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune found.

    • Tiffany Trump, Mr. Trump’s youngest daughter, was registered in Pennsylvania and New York, NBC News reported.

    • Sean Spicer, his press secretary, was registered in both Virginia and Rhode Island, according to The Washington Post.

    • Jared Kushner, his son-in-law and close adviser, was registered in New York and New Jersey, according to The Washington Post.

    • Steven Mnuchin, who is nominated to lead the Treasury Department, was registered in New York and California, CNN found.

This is not illegal (however voting in the two states would be.
    Let's get a federal database!

I never mentioned POC, why do you immediately have to jump to strawman arguments? I am arguing both the process and the right.

Doesn’t matter, it has been blocked on appeal.

everybody has a 'real id' that shows whether or not they are citizens... that data base is already at the state dept.... time to utilize it, show up in person at any polling station nationwide (in any state), scan your id (which also has your address) and just like magic your vote compiles with your district...

too lazy to go get your id, too lazy to get to a polling site... tough titties, you don't get to vote...

LOL.. nah... it's a concerted effort to ensure that WI doesn't end up like IL and have 10s of thousands of dead people voting or other shenanigans that democrats have used over the years to make sure no other party was competitive....

If young people were that motivated, they should make the effort. It shouldn't take corrupt practices to ensure that you can vote on their behalf...
