I work with many people that have done a few tours in both Iraq & Afghanistan, and I've heard just about everything there is to hear so I understand where you're coming from.

As far as I'm concerned you've earned your feelings on this where many other's in here just ramble & bark at the moon without knowing what they're talking about.

 

It's REAL EASY for a person posting on the internet to spout an opinion and take a hard line Black and White position upon and over an issue.

But when you are working in the field....and YOU are there....and you see these things happening and nothing really makes any sense and no other plan will work other than a plan that will STOP what is going on.....but there is a CATCH......the PLAN.....although being something that will work....has Morality Issues.

There is no such thing as Black and White....only an infinite number of shades of grey.

And if YOU are there...and it's YOUR CALL....and no matter how hard you try to figure some other way of doing what needs to be done and no matter how hard you try to work with all sides....in the end it comes down to either let horrible things continue to happen...OR....use a PLAN....that will end the horror but the PLAN is a horror unto itself....well....one will never understand.

You have to be there....and you have to be the person who makes the call.

Utter Bullshart to blame the need to know how to defend yourself on "Islamophobia", which is'nt even a real diagnosis of anything. We ALWAYS need to know how to defend ourselves, for a large variety of reasons, and none of them are based on some specious "phobia" claim. Predators come from all backgrounds, and from all directions, and that is reason enough to train.

Quit with your demagoguery, and condemning of everyone who has issues with Muslims. That people have issues with Muslims is something that Muslims have brought on themselves, either by action or omission, mostly omission. If they did not sit by and tacitly support Muslims hatred of the very country that embraced them initially we would not be having these problems. First, your absolutely right about everything your saying................except for dismissing the real & valid reasons why these particular women are now signing up for these classes which I'll address further down.

Second, I didn't write the story, I'm just sharing it, and I'm not smearing anybody here. I think it's a shame that these women "feel the need" to have to do this, but I'm not slamming anybody. (hint, the entire story is wrapped up in those three little words in bold)

Now lets dig into it........

To your point, people from all walks of life take these types of self defense classes.

The reasons range from, they want to get in shape, to they want to possibly change their career to law enforcement, to their job requires that they do it for whatever reasons, to they just want to be better prepared in case something bad should happen, to they're "forced" to take them out of fear where in the past these types of classes would have been the furthest thing from their minds because people that look & dress the way they do are the newest "punching bag" for most whackos walking the streets.

That last category fits the women in this story perfectly. Muslims typically don't hang out in boxing gyms or self defense classes, the same way most Buddhist's and other pacifist's don't. (yes, I said pacifist's)

Despite what you may think of these people, just because terrorists do horrible things to people, mainstream Muslims don't bother anybody or start fights, nor are they aggressive by nature unless they're provoked like most people.

Yes predators come in all forms from all backgrounds but this story isn't about predators as much as it's about the "fact" that Muslim hate crimes have skyrocketed to the point where these women feel as though they have to do this. (which for me is shameful)

If you read the story you would see that the reason why Muslim women are doing this much more than their male counterparts is because Muslim men are not as easily recognizable or identifiable as Muslim women, Muslim women are a dead giveaway by their headscarves. (hijab's)

People looking to get their frustrations out on Muslims typically target Muslim, women because their head gear screams (hey look at me, I'm a Muslim)

Now, having said all of that, there are lots of statistics that are easily enough to find on the subject as they are posted all over the internet from reliable sources like the "FBI's" web site, and several others that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is quickly becoming a nationwide problem for these women who pretty much stayed off the radar in the past when it came to this kind of stuff.

Yes, I'm bothered by all assaults on all women of all backgrounds, who wouldn't be? But there's no denying that as of recently Islamophobia, and anti-Muslim hate has been on the rise, and is just about on the same level now as it was right after 9/11.

As far as these people dealing with extremism within their ranks, and others being justified to lash out....that's all nonsense, as none of the women in this story bombed any buildings, killed anybody, or caused any harm to anybody.

Their crime is being Muslims, wearing headscarves, being highly visible & highly recognizable as Muslims, and deviants with agendas are taking their frustrations out on these people in vicious ways and at such a clip that there is now a need for these women to have to learn how to defend themselves where there wasn't a need in the past.

Yes, your right, millions of people learn the art of self defense, but when societies or certain segments of society (regardless of who they are or what their religion is) have to because they're the new target - that's a problem, and if you don't see that as a problem then you probably need to recalibrate & do some internal soul searching.

Something tells me these women don't want to have to do this, and that there is a voice somewhere deep down inside of them praying things will never get to the point where they have to use what they've learned in these classes.

I for one don't want to see "any" woman "have to" take these classes because she's living in fear that something might happen to her, and "that" my friend, is what this story is about.

The United States is an incredibly large global entity having the worlds largest economy and being the worlds largest consumer market with 320 Million American Citizens located worldwide.

The PEOPLE of the United States run the United States NOT Politicians.

What a Senator or Congressman or President does has very little effect upon the day to day running of the nation and actions of it's people.

The U.S. runs all by itself without the help of such people thank you very much.

Besides being the worlds largest economy and being the worlds largest producer of oil, natural gas and coal the U.S. will soon become in 2023 completely energy self sufficient and we have planned and will become the predominant exporter of energy on planet Earth.

The U.S. is already the worlds largest exporter of Coal....will surpass Qatar in July of this year 2016 to become the worlds largest exporter of Natural Gas and by 2023 will also be the worlds largest exporter of OIL.

This is very good news for Europe which has been from time to time held hostage with treats and temporary shut offs of Russian natural gas.

The amount of OIL in just the United States and never mind Canada has now been calculated to be a reserve of between 7 to 14 TRILLION BARRELS OF OIL.

The Oil has always been here it's just it took over a century of technological development to allow us to extract our oil and that amount of oil is more oil than EVERY NATION ON EARTH COMBINED.

You listen to programs on TV watching U.S. Presidential candidates spouting nonsense but you don't understand that THE PEOPLE of the United States are on the vast majority MODERATES and do not have time to engage in such foolishness because we are WORKING!!!

I have been all around the world and spent a great deal of time in the U.K. and enjoyed myself in Scotland and the people were polite and nice but compared to the U.S. your level of Freedom is paltry at best.

Also understand that the United States has ENORMOUS responsibilities worldwide and we have over 1000 U.S. Military bases not in the U.S. but in countries all over the world and they exist to prevent any major worldwide conflict.

The U.S. itself is not just the 48 Continental States which span over 3000 miles across and it is not just that and Alaska which is larger than many European Nations and of course the paradise which is Hawaii which I recommend that anyone who can afford to do so visit as it is beautiful beyond compare.

But the U.S. is all of this including over 10,000 Islands which exist in the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic and Caribbean.

These are all U.S. Territories and if you are born on a U.S. Territory you are an AMERICAN CITIZEN which is one of the reasons the U.S. has a Navy so large and so powerful that if just the U.S. Navy was listed by itself never mind the rest of our Military it would be THE THIRD MOST POWERFUL NATION ON EARTH.

The U.S. Military is absolutely necessary for the protection of our Territories and Allies as well as the U.S. Navy is the worlds largest entity for DISASTER RELIEF.

The Japanese, Indonesian, Haitian and other Earthquakes and Tsunami's caused vast devastation and death in many countries and the very first group to help was the U.S. Military which the Japanese have stated is responsible for saving over 20,000 Japanese lives.

Along with having the worlds most powerful Military comes responsibility for keeping ocean shipping lanes safe and secure and we escort many European and Chinese Oil and LNG Tankers through dangerous waters were pirates exist.

The U.N. Commissions on Povety...Famine and Disease have stated that the U.S. in and by itself is responsible for keeping over 1 BILLION PEOPLE ALIVE every year with U.S. Food Aid.

The U.N. Disease Commission also states that U.S. Medical Aid is responsible for keeping another 800 MILLION people alive per year.

No other Nations or even group of nations comes anywhere close to our level of aid and responsibility.

But UNDERSTAND THIS.......it's the PEOPLE of the United States that get things done not some politician and during any election year we let word come in one ear and go out the other as such idiotic stated policies we KNOW will never be adopted.

A Bill must first make it through the House of Representatives and then through the Senate before it can get to the desk of the President who may or may not sign it into law or veto it.

Then there is a Veto Override Vote.

My point is.....don't be fearful or fooled by what you see and hear on TV.

We know what we are doing and yes every now and then some Politician screws up but if they do they don't last long.

Because the most powerful person in the world is an American Citizen at the voting booth.
