A month or two ago we had music awards where 7 out of 8 winning songs contained the N word, biach and whore. Britain seems to have different ideas about what’s acceptable in music and their government doesn’t seem to share our First Amendment values. You would think that today’s rappers would be arrested on site if they stepped foot in England.

On a personal note, I disagree with what Britain did and the music we present awards to.

This isn't a popular position to take, but I understand what they did. Trying to maintain a decent society by not allowing the proliferation of degenerate ways of communication trump the ability to say destructive things. In this country, the 1st Amendment has been perverted and abused.

i think you should listen to lil pump's musical achievement "gucci gang" and see if you still agree that this poetry is "degenerate", you philistine.

jokes aside: you cannot protect society from all that's ugly. censoring hip hop would be nothing but a vain attempt to pretend that the things rappers talk about don't exist, and it would just mean that listening to hip hop is edgy and rebellious again.

I don’t think this case has anything to do with music. It doesn’t seem her posting was in any kind of musical context and I don’t see what it has to do with a boy killed in a car accident as she apparently claimed either. It isn’t clear whether the court believed that defence or just didn’t consider it sufficient. Without context, I can definitely see the line as potentially threatening though I do question whether it needs to be a criminal matter.

Given that plenty of rappers (and similar artists) work in the UK without any issue, home grown and travelling from abroad, I don’t think there is cause for concern. Again, context is extremely relevant in these cases.

It's not about censoring hip hop though. It's about trying to maintain some sense of decorum in modern times. Even in music there should be some balance of vibes and right now the balance in hip hop is more degenerate than anything else.

    Degeneracy is kickass though.

It is sometimes. It still needs to be balanced out with good vibes and right now there's hardly any.

I don't really think anyone should be having good vibes about the zeitgeist. ****'s dark right now, there's not really anything to celebrate.

Perhaps the UK government just has better taste in music?

I'm just pleased the my life and the society I function within does not mimic the world as describe by those songs.

Who get's to decide what is "degenerate" and what is not ? You are on a very slippery slope that ends up in a totalitarian propaganda state.
