It's such an odd story! I'm not saying it isn't true, but I can't imagine that a man "rips the clothes off a woman and then violently rapes her" and no one did anything to stop it!
how do we know the politics of every bystander there? I don’t see that political leanings have mich to do with this story. I think it has more to do with population dynamics, and maybe the effects of social media on our ability to empathize. Stuff like that. I bet there was at least a couple Republican types on that train. I think a big deterrent would be more guns in the hands of ordinary citizens. CCW should be a right in every state and city. A well armed populace is a polite populace. A populace where only the criminals are armed is a violent impolite populace.
Plan B is available now, but we all know that the current crop of rightists want to take that away next.
The one where you would step up? No I didn’t. That’s why I felt it necessary to let you know you would be charged with hate crime if you were there and did step up
This isn’t an abortion thread but you seem obsessed with this topic so perhaps you should make a thread about it? I’ll even back you on some of it since I think some of the right wing legislation regarding abortion is rather extreme
Ok then I guess it was a misunderstanding. I thought you were saying you would defend the victim, which would involve getting physical with a non white
I would defend the victim though. If I were to get involved in this situation, I am sure this scumbag would get violent or puss out. Who knows.
Cities are dangerous so I'm surprised not one person carried pepper spray. I live in a suburban area and I carry it to protect myself against dogs when riding my bike.
Police also said at some point the woman was unconscious during the rape At times the victim was not even conscious. https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/new...-after-woman-is-raped-on-septa-train/2998587/
Someone should have done something. Not sure why they didn't. They most certainly were negligent in not calling the police immediately. I can understand some just being afraid of the violence, some people just don't have that bravery, but waiting to call the police is inexcusable.
I generally don't post in threads like these as many are flamebait driven but, if the event are exactly as described and proven in a court of law, I would hope that the alleged rapist and those people that stood by and knew it was a rape in progress would all see the inside of a jail.
When I lived a mile from NYC it was common for people not to care about crimes or violence as long as it wasn’t happening to them. It’s like in the animal world where all the antelopes stop running after the lion finally catches one, they’re now safe. And I will also say this, if anyone was going to jump in and stop a crime it would most likely be a black man who’s either fed up with crime or just a Good Samaritan. I’ve never seen a violent crime take place so I have no idea how I would react.
It was caught on the train's security surveillance video camera, as well as there being multiple witnesses police have found. The woman herself says she doesn't actually have memory of the attack or what happened on the train since she was intoxicated at the time. (But she can be seen in the video trying to fend the rapist off) It's in a part of the city where drug use is very high, and you can see a lot of purple walking around on the streets who look almost like zombies and are clearly out of it. (You can look up PHILADELPHIA KENSINGTON AVENUE HOOD NIGHT TIME MADNESS, HoodTime, February 4, 2021, on YouTube) Both the victim and perpetrator (and likely several or all the passengers on the train) were under the influence.
society can be scared by gang violence, the gangs go after them and their families if they speak up it's a sad environment to live in
This would have never happened except for one Judge... "Meanwhile, court records show that he racked up "multiple arrests and two misdemeanor convictions, one for controlled substances and one for sexual abuse." Ngoy pled guilty in 2017 in Washington D.C. to the sexual abuse misdemeanor and was sentenced to 120 days in prison and nine months probation. "He was put in immigration detention in Jan. 2018. However, he was never deported because he received a "withholding of removal" from an immigration judge in March 2019 after the Board of Immigration Appeals found that his misdemeanor sex offense was not a "serious crime" that would have made him ineligible for such a stay."
So after committing a serious crime he was essentially given legal immigration status. There’s no other way to describe it.
