I'm sure everyone wants a break from the constant Harvey Weinstein accusations. Sounds like Moore was a randy little devil. Will Bannon and the Republicans disavow him? Should be interesting.

Leigh Corfman says she was 14 years old when an older man approached her outside a courtroom in Etowah County, Ala. She was sitting on a wooden bench with her mother, they both recall, when the man introduced himself as Roy Moore.

It was early 1979 and Moore —
now the Republican nominee in Alabama for a U.S. Senate seat — was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney. He struck up a conversation, Corfman and her mother say, and offered to watch the girl while her mother went inside for a child custody hearing.

“He said, ‘Oh, you don’t want her to go in there and hear all that. I’ll stay out here with her,’ ” says Corfman’s mother, Nancy Wells, 71. “I thought, how nice for him to want to take care of my little girl.”

Alone with Corfman, Moore chatted with her and asked for her phone number, she says. Days later, she says, he picked her up around the corner from her house in Gadsden, drove her about 30 minutes to his home in the woods, told her how pretty she was and kissed her. On a second visit, she says, he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear.

Two of Corfman’s childhood friends say she told them at the time that she was seeing an older man, and one says Corfman identified the man as Moore. Wells says her daughter told her about the encounter more than a decade later, as Moore was becoming more prominent as a local judge.

Aside from Corfman, three other women interviewed by The Washington Post in recent weeks say Moore pursued them when they were between the ages of 16 and 18 and he was in his early 30s, episodes they say they found flattering at the time, but troubling as they got older. None of the women say that Moore forced them into any sort of relationship or sexual contact.

    Seriously? I hadn't heard that.

I just found this breaking news interesting, in light of the citizens of Bannonite Nation being so fascinated with Weinstein the last few weeks. I'm sure they'll all disavow Moore for this. Right?

Oh ok, so you probably should have asked if the alt-right would disavow him. It was weird for you to ask if Republicans would disavow him in the 3rd person, since you're a lifelong Republican, and all.

    I disavowed him weeks ago.

So are you going to comment on this, or do you want to talk about me? I'm not sure that this forum is about me.

Looks like a widespread societal issue to me, one we would rather not address in favor of the usual guilt/sin/blame/deny game.

    Sexual Abuse

    • Approximately 30% of sexual assault cases are reported to authorities. 3
    • 9.3% of cases of maltreatment of children in 2012 were classified as sexual abuse. 9
    • 62,939 cases of child sexual abuse were reported in 2012. 9
    • According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Criminal Victimization Survey, in 2012, there were 346,830 reported rapes or sexual assaults of persons 12 years or older. 17
    • In 2010, 12% of rapes and sexual assaults involved a weapon. 13
    • In 2010, 25% of the female victims of rape/sexual assault were victimized by strangers. 13
    • According to “Have Sexual Abuse and Physical Abuse Declined Since the 1990s?” an article released by the Crimes Against Children Research Center in 2012: 19
      • There was a 56% decline in physical abuse and a 62% decline in sexual abuse from 1992 to 2010.
      • Despite some skepticism of reporting methods by various agencies, declines in child physical and sexual abuse since the 1990s, as reported to National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), reflect a true decline in prevalence.
The decline in sexual abuse in NCANDS was consistent with other data sources.
    Adults
    • About 20 million out of 112 million women (18.0%) in the United States have been raped during their lifetime. 12
    • Only 16% of all rapes were reported to law enforcement. 12
    • In 2006 alone, 300,000 college women (5.2%) were raped. 12
    • Among college women, about 12% of rapes were reported to law enforcement. 12
    • A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey on the national prevalence of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and stalking found:
      • 81% of women who experienced rape, stalking, or physical violence by an intimate partner reported significant short- or long-term impacts. 18
      • About 35% of women who were raped as minors also were raped as adults, compared to 14% of women without an early rape history. 18
      • 28% of male rape victims were first raped when they were 10 years old or younger. 18
    Child/Teen Victims
    • In a 2012 maltreatment report, of the victims who were sexually abused, 26% were in the age group of 12–14 years and 34% were younger than 9 years. 9
    • Approximately 1.8 million adolescents in the United States have been the victims of sexual assault. 4
    • Research conducted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that approximately 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls are sexually abused before the age of 18. 1
    • 35.8% of sexual assaults occur when the victim is between the ages of 12 and 17. 1
    • 82% of all juvenile victims are female. 5
    • 69% of the teen sexual assaults reported to law enforcement occurred in the residence of the victim, the offender, or another individual. 5
    • Teens 16 to 19 years of age were 3 ½ times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault.6
    • Approximately 1 in 5 female high school students report being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner. 7

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore (R) has turned down an opportunity to debate his opponent, Doug Jones (D), because the differences between the two candidates are "crystal clear," according to Moore's campaign.

Yeah. One candidate is apparently a pedophile and the other one hasn't been accused of being a pedophile.

Hey, they have to drain the swamp, you know. This is the perfect guy to replacement the nasty old establishment, isn't he?

Bannon sure picks some odd swamp drainers. A pedophile in Alabama, and a convicted felon in New York. Yeeha.

Tres, I'm not sure I'm buying into all the sexual harassment claims made these days. I don't know a thing about the guy in your thread, so I'm talking about the harassment claims in general. Did Weinstein abuse women? There's no proof but it's looking like he probably did. Did he abuse all those women? Probably not. Did some of them think nothing of it until blaming him became popular? Probably.

Same thing with Spacey. He may have been an aggressive horn dog but it didn't seem to really bother anyone or give anyone a reason to speak up until being an abuse victim by someone more powerful became fashionable.

The other day I saw where Jesse Jackson was accused of harassment for putting his hand on a woman's thing. Last week I heard about some guy in the British Parliment resigning because he allegedly put his hand on a woman's leg 15 years ago. It's only a matter of time before a straight man accuses another straight man of sexual harassment because he patted him on the butt after hitting a home run. And how is it that patting a man on the butt amounts to nothing but doing the same to a woman amounts to getting publicly humiliated along with a lawsuit?

Where I work there's a lot of locker room talk, lots, but only when the one woman in this office isn't around. Why is it acceptable for guys to say certain things but it becomes harassment if a woman hears it? If everyone is hearing the exact same thing and only one person is offended because of her gender then we're living by two sets of rules. I'm sure there are plenty of men who were hit on by women, I was, and never considered it harassment, but if the roles were reversed then harassment would come into play.

As for the people in your story, do you think their memories could have changed after nearly 40 years and do you think today's events might have shaped what they remember or even the reason why they remember?

I'm at the point where all these accusations are pretty much meaningless without proof. Weinstein might be a predator, but there doesn't seem to be any actual proof that he's as bad as they claim. Yeah, they have one recording and some settlements, but none of that proves all the other claims about him are true. More than likely a lot of those claims are true, and it's just as likely a lot of those claims are lies or the events were consensual. I'm sure some of his accusers want their moment of fame, their cash settlement or both.

I'm not saying the story is fake, but I do find it odd that this story hasn't come out before now, even though Moore has been a public figure in Alabama for decades. Or maybe the story has been out locally in Alabama and debunked years ago. I don't know, but I do know based on the past year's performance of the Washington Post, the accuracy of the story is irrelevant to the necessity of getting this news out there. Gossip dies in darkness you know.

And thanks to Super Republican tres borrachos for getting the info out there! Because that's what Republicans do!

It is very coincidental that this accusation comes out once he’s a Republican candidate for a Senate seat.

Every look for Bannon is a bad look. The guy literally looks like he needs to be scraped off a park bench every morning.
