Women's History Month...What exactly are we celebrating?

Women historically were the brewers. We owe beer brewing to women.

 

I would suggest taking 600mg Ibuprofen for your nerve pain.

 

And sandwich making.

 

I am feeling just fine myself. I would like to hear about all these historical feats done by women. We do need as many role models as we can get to inspire women today to get off the bench and get in the game.

 

The various "history months" always bring me back to Morgan Freeman's thoughts on the matter:



If an individual is equal, then go be equal - equality doesn't require special dispensation.

 

I am so happy you took my ibuprofen suggestion. I seriously doubt your interest in "historic feats done by women" because they've been documented if you look. We have plenty of women "off the bench" if you would get your head out of where ever it is.

 

Personally , I’m not objecting to any particular group per se. To me, it’s all American history. The Country has had issues in the past and still has some. But we have come a long way and everyone has a chance to compete and succeed in the American dream. No group should be singled out for preferential or detrimental treatment. It actually just serves to divide us and makes that group look weak. Kind of like they need a special olympics so they can feel good about themselves.

Daniel, unfortunately I have to agree with the second part you wrote. I do recognize the left has an extreme hate on for straight white males and even the women that stand by them. These" identity politic" schemes are becoming more and more prominent. In fact, it can be seen as an attempt to segregate every American, cause division, and welcome the invading armies!

 

I like Madame Curie but then she died from her own invention so.....not that great.

 

I would suggest a study of Women of the Bible, their character and contributions. Actually, I have done that....but I posted the reply to you dairyair because I know how you detest anything with virtue. Perhaps you would prefer to study Margaret Sanger and her plan to purge the black race from our Continent thru abortion!
I would suggest we devote an entire month to Mother's Day!

Not really no, sandwiches didn't exist until after WW1. Well after Marie Curie was winning Nobel Peace Prizes for advancements in science.

 

Yeah, but it’s so much easier to be a victim and put your hand out. As long as there are those that are willing to be fools and bend over then unfortunately we should just expect it to keep getting worse.

We are all witnessing the dumbing down of America. Just this past week both Russia and China clearly saw the division in our Country and tore into Biden and our Country.

 

Our history is mostly about wars and Presidents. Women haven't really been much a part of that narrative. Pocahontas and Betsy Ross maybe get a paragraph and Susan B. Anthony two. The problem with Black history month, women's history month, etc, is that the people recognized largely have weak sauce historical contributions in comparison to the weight of the core history narrative. Perhaps is we looked more at cultural history, the contributions of women, minorities, etc wouldn't seem like the academic version of an eye roll.

 

How do you feel about celebrating American history? Like women's history, it celebrates one group and excludes people who don't belong to it.

 

I'm not sure what you’re looking for? Like I’ve said, it’s all American history to me. I’m all for celebrating all American history together. I don’t think we should have separate categories like black history, women’s history, and whatever other groups that I’m sure will want a piece of the action. Soon we’ll have Latin history month, Asian history month, gay history month, etc. etc. like I’ve said, separate months for any separate group looks like they need pity. Not a good look for the group or the Country. I’m not a believer in everyone gets a trophy, or throwing a bone to someone just for the sake of throwing it. If anyone or any group wants to be great and memorable, then do great and memorable things, the notoriety will naturally follow.

If what you state is considered virtue, I absolutely detest that. Hate IMO, is not a virtue. It's a mental disorder.

Kind of sad, not surprising, but sad, that you think the woman's contribution to society is to strip for your pleaseure.

 

It would be nice if Americans would see all Americans the same and we only need to celebrate American History.
But that is not the place Americans are at.

There are still those who dislike blacks, have no use for what women in History have accomplished.
So, to show those Americans that non white males have contributed to the country is a necessity.

Someday, maybe we can be the United States of America. All inclusive.

 

In our current culture, victimhood pays. And as long as the money is there for those who cry "I'm a victim," we will always have victims.
