So, I run accounting/finance in my division.
We have some very crappy performance this year in a few areas.
Our VP is coming on short notice.
I have a feeling some heads will be chopped.
One of them might be mine.
And I want it to happen because I can pressure and blackmail my employer into some very generous payout. I’ve done this before.

I feel a bit anxious and excited at the same time.

Have any of you ever gone through something like that in your past?

In the civilian world I worked this interesting property management job. My boss was HORRIBLE and it made me look bad. I was going to just quit but then I realized if I stayed and got fired, I'd get severance and some time off. Worked out for the best.

That’s pretty much what happened to me.
Now I can’t figure out if I should start my own practice or look for jobs.
For now I decided to apply for the best deals I see and work on getting clients.

I've been getting paid to stay at home and play video games, the glory of working for a boss who's a no show on a relaxed site, that said; I'm back on site now, doing my job, thought I'd go into work just to make sure I still had a job. Let me be clear though, this almost never happens to me (never have I had it so good).

I'm usually dreading working at heights working from site to site in construction.

I work at a corporate restaurant and its pretty amazing to watch corporate come down and literally look for the smallest excuse to fire the people they don't want there.

The regional manager will literally follow someone around until they say one thing that seems aggressive then fire them.

We've gone through a general manager, they just fired the assistant manager and our kitchen manager quit, his replacement left before he was actually offered the job.

They love me but I'm just a server, still, for being open less than a year I've probably seen them fire over 20 people so far.

    Their standards are extremely high.

In fact, they track food costs so closely they can tell if one ounce of crab has gone missing.

This probably sounds stupid to you guys that have real jobs but I thought I would share it with you.

My plan worked out perfectly - I wasn’t taking much PTO, so they had to pay me for almost a month of work + the highest severance, since I worked there from the time it was a startup.
Found a new job literally within 3 weeks, and had competing offers! Now I spend a third of the time commuting, compared to my prior job and get paid more. Plus new job opens new opportunities to grow - I run accounting / finance departments and work directly for the guy who owns the company. With prior employer I had 2 more people above me.
Job market is super hot now - in the last 1.5 weeks of unemployment I felt like a CEO - phone calls, emails, meetings/interviews! I didn’t have time to apply for jobs anymore. I used to be unemployed in 2009 and that was a totally different story - if you were getting at least one phone call per month of applying you already had a good month!
So, it’s all good now - less driving, more money + the severance cash!
If anyone here has a professional education and experience I strongly recommend you to jump to another company before a new recession hits - US cycle is about 10 years and we are approaching that point. I think that trump might delay it because of his trade wars that spook markets and prevent overvaluations, but sooner or later it’s coming, and you want to me in new position where new management values you instead of an old one where your bosses might think they can get someone to do the job for cheaper.
