Question to those further towards the Left.

There are two candidates. The first candidate is center-Left. The second candidate is fairly far to the Right but will give everyone $10,000 free money every year.

Which one would you vote for?

(If it helps flesh out more detail to this scenario, the first candidate is very socially progressive but a ways away from being a socialist. The second candidate doesn't really support any of the progressive policies you support, but is moderately libertarian on most issues. They also support just a few things that you despise.)

I don't think I would vote. But I would get my obituary written.

The Right does give out free money. You just have to be too big to fail.

Doesn’t this scenario blow a hole in the binary left vs right dichotomy? You’re defining two characters on the basis of “left “ and “right” (and nothing else) yet attributing a policy to your “right-wing” candidate that I am sure you’ve define as a “left-wing” one. Surely they’re not simply a “right-wing” character any more. It’s almost as if any candidate with a viable set of policies across the board won’t be able to be slit in to one of two simplistically defined categories and those who play the simplistic “them vs us” game in politics are being grossly dishonest, usually for some form of personal gain.

I wouldn't believe anything a right winger said, ever, anytime. They'd find some way of reneging on any agreement.

Besides I won't get out of bed for 10 large

What if a a candidate was totally left wing but promised to kill all the Jews?

The left is about more than free stuff.

They are about hate. They are all about racism, sexism, bigotry, ageism, etc.

The Democrats on this forum have said some nasty things about what they hope happens to Israel and the people who live there.

That's why Democrats skip over tent cities full of needy homeless Americans to help needy homeless foriegn nationals at the needy Americans expense.

If I was a needy homeless American, the last people I would support are the ones forcing me to share what I have with foreign nationals who come and go unchecked and unregulated at will.

Best of intentions led to Stalin, the cushy western world you live in today was built by capitalism not socialism.

yes, the right not caring about the poor and working class could be the undoing of America...

you can't only care about the rich or the rich become so powerful and the working class become 3rd world laborers

And you can't be Santa either, no matter how much Bernie and AOC promise it.

There can be a balance and I don't see either side offering that balance just a lot of angry rhetoric on both sides.

That also has to some extent taken place under the globalist system.

It's hard to open up (in multiple ways) to lots of other big Third World countries and not have your country start becoming more Third World.

This is an exceptionally good question!

I am a member of the People's Party of Canada that claims to be further right than the Conservative Party and yet I personally feel that one of the best ways to break Canadians out of the taxation chains put on them by socialist political leaders and bureaucrates may well be an unconditional, (but taxable), basic minimum income that goes to all Canadian citizens.

I arrived at that conclusion a decade or so after finding out how deliberately flawed our central banking system really is and how much better it could theoretically be. The majority of Canadians would not stop working or even slow down much if they received a monthly minimum income, (some would of course), so I do not believe that Canada's productivity would be significantly decreased but income tax and many other taxes are actually a scam imposed by political leaders who were taught that the only way to make Canadians work hard.... is to set up the system in such a way as to force them to think that they are head over heels in debt!

One obvious immediate benefit of an unconditional, (but taxable), basic minimum income for all Canadians over voting age would be an immediate decrease in demand for abortions because fewer women would feel that abortion was their only real choice within their set of circumstances.

Can we learn about the Washington Swamp from the Ottawa Swamp?

Here is an interview with my choice for the next Prime Minister of Canada:

Oh please, "the Conservative" Party in Canada is not Right.

They'd be like the most socially progressive members of the US Republican Party who despise Trump nearly as much as the rest of the Left.

You are correct..... it is not but they do have a history of being basically pro-Israel!!!!

Retired Prime Minister Stephen Harper does a great job of explaining why he was such a staunch supporter of the nation of Israel.

agree, I support tariffs to protect the American worker, republicans brought in cheap h1b visa workers in the tech industry, when they went back home to India, they took our jobs with them, we trained them, now they are stealing our jobs

Why not, as far as the OP goes, because the right gives corporations free money every year.

A UBI is a smart move economically and sociologically for the US, and I believe it is inevitable.

Yes, I think it would significantly reduce abortions.

Were you thinking of the Andrew Yang campaign when you created this discussion?

    ANDREW YANG FOR PRESIDENT 2020

Because co-opting some of Andrew Yang's platform could be done by President Trump?
