I wouldn't - I'm sick of hearing the name Alexa without saying it too! It's way down at the bottom of my 'Must-have' list!
It's about as useful as @alexa since you don't really need something that only uses one shop to do your shopping; like a monopoly of the device, it is anti free market. Alexa only uses one shop/Amazon.
I prefer old-school internet search by typing words using keyboard or touch panel. Speech recognition is not flexible enough. Not everything can be spoken, e.g. math expressions.
No, the concept is actually pretty cool but it's just "weird" to me. My buddy has that thing and it does actually seem to work as advertised, he just talked to it and was like hey Alexa turn the TV on to the game, Alexa order me a pizza. And somehow it actually turned the TV on to the football game we wanted to watch and pizza and wings showed up soon after. I assume you can program it to know which channel you want to watch when you say things to it and also program it to order a specific pre set meal when you say order pizza? It was kinda cool, but I live alone and talk to myself sometimes and I could see me accidentally activating that thing to do stuff if I've had one too many beers. I already get myself in trouble with one click ordering on Amazon. There's been more than one occasion when I'd walk out the door on monday morning for work and trip over an Amazon prime box on my porch that drunk me thought would be a good idea to buy a couple days prior lol. I don't need a device that can order stuff for me if I talk to it....
I saw a free Alexa as a promotion to some Virgin Media TiVO Wifi thing and wondered what the point was. I'd prefer an Apple X phone anyday.
Only for shopping. For music, you can have different choices. For example, you can use Pandora for music with Alexa (despite Amazon having it's own music services).
I like Siri much better. I use her on almost a daily basis and haven't really ever had any problems other than never learning how to use a map in real life. lol
Nope. I use the 'ok google' to play music on my phone, but mostly hate using voice activated anything.
Would I pay for a device that puts me under surveillance from the people I bought it from? No. Cell phones are bad enough, but a device that is always listening and recording you? Uh, no.
You should see the laughs my "smart phone" draws. It's an LG VX9900 ... browser & streaming and apps are limited, but privacy compensates. Tracking can be turned off too.
I have several models, one in every room although I've changed the "wake up word" to a mix of computer, Echo and, still, Alexa.
Agreed, but I'm not a paranoid nitwit who is worried that the NSA is tracking me. In fact, if I'm ever robbed or accidentally run my car off a cliff, I'd like people to know where my phone can be found.
I've used both, but have been a Pandora member for years. Still getting used to Amazon's music choices.
Some people don't know the devices can be modified and monitored (spied on) for commercial purposes by major corporations.
The tracker on my phone can be turned on and off at will. You should familiarize yourself with "stingrays" and how far behind privacy laws, and search and seizure provisions are -vs- "incidental collection" practices. I'm not involuntarily consenting to unregulated tracking by big brother or big retail either.
I hope that works for you. There are a bunch of phones that still track you even turned off with the chip removed.
I've been told mines on of the best that still compatible, and reasonably capable. I suspect the compatibility issues will FORCE me to purchase a phone pre-tapped by big brother though.
Yeah it has me seriously considering getting a flip phone, although those have probably been compromised by now. We basically walk around with a camera and a listening device that anyone can hack into and spy on us, and we pay for the "privilege". It's almost as smart as what the DNA companies are doing.
