And by the way, the military is all volunteer, so nobody is being forced to do anything any more, and when we did have a draft, soldiers could buy their booze at PX's, no need for any civilian government to change their law to accommodate them. And the military had age restrictions as well; 16 and 17 year old soldiers had to wait until they were 18. Soldiers who 'get shot at' aren't that big a demographic even in the military.

10 and 12 year olds get shot at in south Chicago and LA every week. You want them to be able to go buy booze?

At my high school in NY, it was common for senior boys to date freshman girls. That's a 3 year difference. But if a senior was born, for example, in January 1972 and the girl was born in July 1975, they would have been 18 and 14 during the spring semester of 1990.

I always wondered if they were pushing the legal limit.

Federal age of consent laws were written by the Bush admin with one thing in mind. Fill the prisons. No, I'm not saying adults should be allowed to have sex with teenagers. This is a wholly different issue. It's time Americans begin to understand what is going on in this country. It isn't freedom.

What I think is that we need to stop writing laws that suppress sexual activity that is consensual, as those are natural acts. However most States recognize that minors don't legally have the Right to give consent. So I'm assuming that's the issue that you're really getting at?

When I went with the aliens for a day I learned that their age of consent is puberty. Once you reach puberty you're an adult according to them.

Federal courts adjudicating cases with consent issues should absolutely apply applicable state law. There should be no "federal age of consent" laws whatsoever, and frankly, I wasn't aware that there were any... not my specialty.

Just a few reflections: I would rather have sex with an alien than a teenage boy. Don't girls/women have a choice in the matter? Children (legally) are having sex like bunny rabbits. Why are we worried about who they are having sex with? I was 15 when I married. My husband was 19, and that made him a criminal. I think that is ridiculous. We were married for 22 years and happy most of the time.

A 22 year old man is above the age of concent inall 50 states. So what us your point? You said a woman had thus relationship so how old was the woman, 21?

18, 19, 20 ? If she was too much younger she woukd be a girl in just about all states but a handful.

    WHY?
    I never get that.
Because there is nothing else to do when the cows are out in pasture you can screw a minor? Marry your sister?
How does right and wrong vary state-to-state????
I find the variation of laws from state to state ridiculous. You can do something legally in one state and be put in prison for it in another state.
    HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

California will eventually lower the age of consent to 12 and the voting age to 14. They'll be the guinea pig to see how this works out.

For the most part they do apply state laws. The federal age of consent applies only in cases of an adult going over state lines or out of the country to have sex.

There are many technicalities that can get someone arrested though, even if they are in a legal relationship.

1; If a minor who is over the age of consent sends a nude photo to their adult bf/gf, the adult can be arrested for possession of child porn, even though it's legal for them to have sex.

2; In a few states you are not a resident until you have lived there for a certain period of time. Until that period is up, you are still legally a resident of your former state, and subject to their age of consent, and therefore, the federal age of consent if you have a relationship with someone under 18 who lives in your new state.
