In other news I finally figured out that if you click your name at the top there's a donation option. Very hard to spot, I just saw it by chance.

I still wish there was a donation link in an obvious place, like a tab on the top like there used to be on the old forum.

For that matter I wish the rules link was on the top of the forum in a tab too.

You could copy it and then use the @ function to alert the person you wanted to quote.

How does the @ function work? I don't know.

Just type the @ sign and then start typing a name (no space between the @ sign and name) and a list will show up and you can choose who you want to @ at. :)

Like this @wgabrie. After the first 3 letters I typed, your name came up and I just clicked on it.

Then obviously you're not doing it right, because as you can see for yourself, it works for me.

I unchecked the "Use the rich text editor to create and edit messages" in preferences and I did see a flash where the text editor was there and then instantly taken off the page, but then it's gone. I can't select it by tabbing through the page. It's gone.

I don't know how you did it. Perhaps it's a bug that only you experience.

Edit: no wait it's not the discussion editor it's just the "Share This Page" section before the icons load.

No need for that. Above the reply box where all the formatting buttons are, the button on the extreme right switches to bbcode.

Not that it's absolutely necessary for this, just seems to make the process a little easier.

    Do you want to?

    RE: the rules bit.

Not to be that guy, but a little trimming of them might be a nice way to allow threads to be more fluid, & negate the need close them.

IDK, sure would save server space, & honestly, any topic with many twists & turns is exciting to read/participate in. I mean we're not a news outlet.

When I reply to this, here's the first thing I see:

[QUOTE="wgabrie, post: 1067320182, member: 54433"]Tell me how to use the BB Code Editor to get a quote from a locked thread.[/QUOTE]

So I use that as a template. From the post I want to quote I get the author's username and replace yours in the template, like so:

[QUOTE="Bowerbird, post: 1067320182, member: 54433"]Tell me how to use the BB Code Editor to get a quote from a locked thread.[/QUOTE]

I get the post URL from the post # at the bottom right:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/why-are-republicans-so-anti-abortion.500894/page-20#post-1067315047

I copy the number after "post-" and sub it for the number after "post:" in the template, like so:

[QUOTE="Bowerbird, post: 1067315047, member: 54433"]Tell me how to use the BB Code Editor to get a quote from a locked thread.[/QUOTE]

I mouse over the author's profile link to get the member #, and I sub that for the number after "member:" in the template, like so:

[QUOTE="Bowerbird, post: 1067315047, member: 17234"]Tell me how to use the BB Code Editor to get a quote from a locked thread.[/QUOTE]

When I swap out the text between the quote tags, I end up with this:

    [QUOTE="Bowerbird, post: 1067315047, member: 17234"]You didn't watch it did you? [/QUOTE]

And when I post, it shows up like so:

Toldjer it's a pain in the neck. ;)

Wow that's a big long post you did their yguy. So the trick is to substitute values.

Yeah. Try that. I know at the old place that box was automatically checked off. The reason was because the place timed out log ins. So if you didn't have the box checked and you were there for a certain amount of time, you automatically were logged out.

How can you stop watching a thread like the old unsubcribe?

    That's how you do it.
Open the thread, near the top of the page there should be a "Unwatch Thread" link, you click on that. It's opposite the page tool.

I wish there was a way to delete partial replies -- one I start but then change my mind.

Just a follow up to my earlier post, the third party developers are now trialling XF2. They may, despite what I said earlier, be able to "port" their add ons from XF1 over to XF2, but if they do, that would, in any case, incur additional cost.

It is entirely up to the owner here, what she does, but I would strongly advise to wait and see what happens with XF2 before committing resources to add-ons for XF1, this forum software.

There is no release date for XF2, but I would expect it within 6 months at the latest. The finishing touches to XF2 are happening now, ie how it's styled, coloured etc. Hopefully, it should not be too costly for the owner, if she were to decide to, to switch this forum to XF2 and then decide about adds on then depending on what is available.

Xenforo is excellent software and well supported by third party developers, unlike vbulletin which is dying a slow death and is unlikely to survive for much longer. Good move in switching this forum to XF!:applause:

    I have a forum and I use VB5. What a mistake...

Yeah, that's a bit annoying. Maybe you were going to say something really mean but thought better of it but then it posts it anyways! Talk about a faux pas!
