One has to wonder if this is even news anymore. Really great article: https://nypost.com/2013/09/01/naive-journos-hell-tale-as-somalia-hostage/ Yet another pair of naive liberals set off to go to the Middle East, completely oblivious and ignoring all the warnings of dangers. Well, what happened to them is exactly what you'd expect. This time miraculously they did return. Hopefully they learned a lesson, although a very difficult one.
Why did you feel the need to label them as “liberals” despite there being pretty much zero reference to any kind of politics in the entire article?
This happened way back in 2008, and she was released in 2009. She now makes a living telling the story of her extreme dumbassery. It was common knowledge back when this was all going on. Her facebook was basically a shrine at which she worshiped at the altar of Obama(even though she was Canadian). Of course she was a liberal. Only a liberal would be dumb and naive enough to pull a stunt that stupid in a Muslim country.
That’s the bottom line isn’t it? You need an “other” label so you can hate them without needing to think about it. You’re clearly not “dumb and naive enough” to really believe generic political opinion defines or is defined by intelligence or wisdom and I’m sure you, like so many other politicos, don’t really have a structured definitions for the political labels you use. It’s simple about distinguishing between “us” and “them” by any means necessary. Race, nationality or religion would have do just as well for you had they been an opinion in this case.
You have a point. I've seen uber-religious people pull dumbshit moves like this too, so I guess that would be the other, conservative side of the coin. I guess it's not so much a matter of left Vs. right as it is a simple matter of "zealots do stupid things" The takeaway lesson- whatever side you're on, don't drink the Kool Aid.
There are no sides, there is no coin. There are just 7 billion individuals and the actions of any one individual don’t reflect in any way at all on any of the others, regardless of any common features they might happen to share.
I’m sure that sounded like it made sense when you first typed it but what does it actually mean? Exactly how would treating people with a single shared characteristic as if they’re all the same in every other way lead to the mess they got themselves in to? Remember that many of the people advising them not to go where they did would have been local Muslims and other “liberal” (by your definition) journalists.
Another thread started by this poster from an article years ago, to bolster his hatred of anything he does not understand or is against his disgusting religious beliefs. Please show a bit of honesty and start a thread entitled "why I hate anyone not me"!
