Found this forum and joined. But authorization took time and I lost track.

Found it again recently and logged back in.

I enjoy discussing and debating politics, philosophy, science, religion, current events, and news. Note my use of the Oxford comma -- I am also a grammarian. To be a good philosopher you must also be a good grammarian.

In grad school many moons ago I taught undergrads Technical Writing 201. Doing so taught me precision in all things. English rules of grammar come from French, German, Latin, and Greek.

My moniker is Greek. We are all children of God. God can be the Philosophy God, or the God of one of the many Religions of the Earth.

My avatar varies from time to time.

I tend to capitalize Philosophy, Science, and Religion because these are of utmost importance, in that order.

I also capitalize Earth, Moon, and Sun because these are names for the 3 most important physical masses in proximity to us. Earth uncapitalized means mere dirt. Sun uncapitalized means a mere star. Moon uncapitalized means a mere satellite. But when capitalized they are the names of our own Earth, Moon, and Sun.

My own Philosophy begins with "cogito ergo sum" from Rene Descartes. From there I have progressed to British Empiricism not because I am British (I am American) but because Empiricism is British. My favorite philosophers are Aristotle (for logic), Descartes (for Rationalism), Bertrand Russell (for Empiricism), and Roger Scruton (for Modernism).

Welcome. Not in agreement with Philosophy being supreme. I've managed these many years without ever taking a class.

Thank you for your welcome, @Greataxe .

I have found that most people do not know about Philosophy because our schools simply do not teach it. I think this is unfortunate.

Everybody develops some form of Philosophy of their own. They just don't know it.

It would be good for everybody if we all read one or more of the comparative philosophical history books available.

I recommend "History Of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell for everybody. It is a very good place to start.

    Welcome Yiostheoy.

Our educational systems need an overhaul. Teaching the classics in Philosophy, Literature, and History would be a welcome upgrade to the hokum our government pumps into the public schools today. A solid two-year primer in military discipline and physical fitness would go a long way in restoring some much needed respect for God, Family, and Country too...

I use spell check when I am on the campaign trail........ but not in discussions...... Here I like to put the emphasis on the quotations that I usually ad.
