That "free" socialist care comes at a REAL price. Check it out the average income tax in Europe is in the middle 45% area. Damn near HALF of what you earn goes to the government!!!Their version of sales tax is called value added tax, and it is around 25% too.

Example: Buy a $30,000 car and pay $7500 in sales tax.

Oh and the gas you put in that now $37500 car has a tax of $6.00 a gallon, plus of course the cost of the gas too.

But you are overlooking the free stuff? The joke around he in farm country is how a farmer thinks it is so awesome he got a free coat from the seed dealer but never puts into perspective, he also bought 250k in seed.

If you add you income tax, plus your state income tax, dividend tax, property tax, sales tax, insurance premium, plus your deductible together — what percent does that bring you as a total tax?

Lets use a standard family as an example. (All data is most recent year reported, averages)
Median Household Income 2018 for a family of 3.15 people: $57,319 [1] includes state and federal taxes
Average medical family plan premium 2018: $1,168 per month or $14,016 (no subsidy) [2]
Average family deductible 2018: $8,803 (no subsidy) [2]
    Property Tax: $3,399 [3]
    Federal income tax: $10,295
    State income tax: $2,292
We will be generous and say zero sales tax

After the above that family is left with $31,101 before a insurance pays a dime, plus they have college tuition to worry about.
With a pretax family income of $69,906 thats 44%... plus college for their 1.15 children... and assumes zero sales tax.
Plus you get to worry about the insurance company denying your claim.

    Yay america!

In Australia we have lower average effective tax rates than the US and preserve the private system alongside universal care. We still have private insurance.

Not that our system is perfect, but it is closer to what the US would adopt than that offered by Europe.

Tell your leaders that. When we say "free" we are mocking them.

The high taxes in Europe isn't due to healthcare. We spend as much if not more on public healthcare than over developed nations:

A just society does not let it's poorer citizens die or go bankrupt because they can't afford medicines they need to survive.

Have you missed the number of your fellows who go bankrupt paying for needed medicines or operations and there have been a number of people who have died because they could not access healthcare in your country. Do your own research, it's not my job to educate you.

This has nothing to do with "who's going to pay" I find it ludicrous that the same people who wish to spend large amounts of money to build a wall are not willing to spend any money on healthcare. It is a matter of priorities. Some people feel it is more important to keep people out then it is to care for our own citizens.

and you have a military that could be arrested if they decided to take a vacation in Mayberry and managed to show up on a day when Barney wasn't in the best of moods. You also have tons of taxes on goods before they are even allowed into your country, which you are not counting.

I guess I can see where you are coming from, but it's a different and faulty paradigm you are working from.

Look at it from the idea that you are your problem, the federal government is tasked and taxes us to keep our borders secure. That's how I see things. If you want healthcare, well that's on you. Keeping the borders safe from the barbarians at the gates could be done without the government, but the reason why we have a federal government is to keep the border secure. That's why it was started, and things haven't changed at all.

I wish you could explain your idea because I really don't understand it. Why do we have a federal government? Why do we have borders? Why should I be concerned about your health?

Often times, in-between the lines, it seems to me that many who oppose universal healthcare do so because they fear their premiums are going to pay for someone else's healthcare. It is almost like they don't want the benefits, because they don't want certain others to also benefit.

That is my point. It has always been the sticking point for conservatives. There are others that they don't want to help, or even see helped. It is one of those characteristics that has led me to see conservatives thought as rather cold hearted, even dark to the point of evil.

With the influx of money from new subsidized Obama care patients, many hospitals have updated their equipment and facilities, allowing them to better care for anyone and everyone.

This doesn't answer my question. Let's say that you benefit from universal healthcare. I won't because somebody has to pay for that subsidy, so assuming it's me, what do I get out of this?

it's no different than payin property taxes, a portion of which goes towards road maintenance & street lighting... if the street in front of your house is in good shape & well lit, then you're subsidizing someone else's streets including the one's you never travel on...
uhc can work, but i'd rather see the monies come from other 'projects' rather than newly added taxes...
