I like to think its because people feel they are worth more then what they would earn.

Im 25 and I have met people younger then me who "WILL NOT" work at a restraunt because and I quote "Worth more then 5 dollars a hour"

I have met people who dress like Hkers and dont want to work because "They deserve more"

What people need to do is learn to work with their hands again for nothing and be glad they can get a 5 dollar job in an air conditioned building.

I did construction for 50 dollars a day and not get 11 dollars an hour working in an office. I miss working outside (I like working with my hands) but I am not going to quit because "I should get more"

This might of become a bit of a rant as well :( Sorry

It used to be a young male always had the military as an option...

Now standards are much higher, the military is shrinking; it's not a guarantee any branch
    will accept you.

I feel for this generation, I really do...hopefully it will make them stronger in the long run.

Think about young folks in the depression with 25% unemployment, they survived and so will this generation but the American dream must seem very distant at this point in time.

I read that in the USA, military members must have a university degree to be eligible for any advancement. And the entry level pay is pathetic, certainly not enough to live on if the military was not taking care of all ones basic living needs (food, shelter, medical). Someone told me that, in many cases, Americans in the military are essentially trapped into service, since they can never save enough money to leave and survive on a low wage job outside. So they stay in the military for 20 years until they can get a pension.

The American military is not willing to pay enough to attract enough American recruits, so they are turning to Mexicans, offering them potential citizenship if they serve.

Only 55.3 percent of people (in the USA) between the ages of 25-34 are employed. The number was 67.3 percent in the year 2000.
