    ATTENTION LOUISIANA RESIDENTS!!!
A poor/indigent person who is charged with a crime, including the most MINOR misdemeanor you can think of, can be re-arrested under contempt of court charges, if they are FINANCIALLY UNABLE to pay court costs and/or public defender fees. This can be HUNDREDS of dollars! It does NOT matter if the accused can PROVE their inability to pay.
Then, they have the nerve to call this the ‘indigent defender program’?!!
WEBSTER’S DICTIONARY DEFINES INDIGENT: “Suffering from extreme poverty.”
If you, or someone you know, has been re-arrested, under contempt of court charges, for INABILITY to pay public defender fees or other court imposed fees, in Louisiana, or if you just agree that this is WRONG, please send me your stories/letters. Sign the petition to abolish any and all legislation that allows this to happen to those who are disadvantaged or struggling financially.
PLEASE GET INVOLVED! Make flyers. Post them everywhere you can think of. Call your elected officials and complain. Tell everyone you know!
NO ONE should ever have to go to jail for being poor!
NO JUDGE should have the right to ignore proof of inability to pay!
HELP STOP THIS INJUSTICE AND ABUSE OF THE UNDERPRIVILEGED.
    LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!
