And I live in Queensland Australia where abortion is not only illegal but that illegality is under the criminal code of QLD.

In Queensland, abortion is generally regarded as lawful if performed to prevent serious danger to the woman’s physical or mental health, despite abortion being contained in the Criminal Code. Women and doctors can be criminally prosecuted for unlawfully accessing or providing abortion [1].

    Legislation: Queensland Criminal Code 1899, sections 224, 225 and 226 [2].

Section 224. Any person who, with intent to procure the miscarriage of a woman, whether she is or is not with child, unlawfully administers to her or causes her to take any poison or other noxious thing, or uses any force of any kind, or uses any other means whatever, is guilty of a crime, and is liable to imprisonment for 14 years.

Section 225. Any woman who, with intent to procure her own miscarriage, whether she is or is not with child, unlawfully administers to herself any poison or other noxious thing, or uses any force of any kind, or uses any other means whatever, or permits any such thing or means to be administered or used to her, is guilty of a crime, and is liable to imprisonment for 7 years.

Section 226. Any person who unlawfully supplies to or procures for any person anything whatever, knowing that it is intended to be unlawfully used to procure the miscarriage of a woman, whether she is or is not with child, is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment for 3 years.

If you are interested in law then the summary on that page gives good insight into what is likely to happen if laws are introduced to the USA making abortion illegal. Abortions are carried out here though. And throughout the world the pattern for law in relation to abortion is the same

Where there is a medical exception to abortion (I,e, life and health of the mother) abortion becomes essentially "on demand". Where there is no exception or very prescribed exceptions such as Brazil, there is a huge illegal abortion trade and a significant and sometimes horrifying rate of maternal death

It has proven nothing because the question still remains - are or are not late term abortions done for foetal abnormality?

Do you people ever read and think before responding? I am pointing out that medical issues - disease rates, predeliction to disease and illness - vary by population due to differences in diet, medical care, genetics.

The specific question was over directly comparing one nation to another.

After 20 weeks the baby is a person and abortion is murder, it does not matter if the baby is not perfectly formed. Just as its wrong to kill a 1 month old who lost a leg due to a car accident or acquires some other abnormality, its wrong to kill a baby 1 month before birth because it is "abnormal".

If you would kill a pre-born baby because of a detected abnormality, would you kill a baby after it was born and a pre-existing physical or mental abnormality was found? There is no difference between the 2 cases.

And this affects abortion rates how?

Once again have you any proof that late term abortion is being done for any other reason than foetal abnormality

For most of those aborted they would have been palliated at birth

Go back and read the past few posts of this sub-topic. It always helps to know what the topic is before jumping into the middle of it.

Fetal abnormality is not justification for abortion after 20 weeks. Its no different than a 1 month old baby becoming disabled in a car accident. Both are people, both deserve treatment. You cannot go around killing people because they are irritable or retarded or disabled or are arbitrarily labeled "abnormal".

Strawman much? (with added Ad Homs - always know I am winning when I see that)

In case you missed my reply before - these infants would have been palliated at birth

I won't post pictures because it does turn stomachs

    http://www.bing.com/images/search?q...y&qpvt=anencephaly&qpvt=anencephaly&FORM=IGRE

That is anencephaly - one of the more common reasons for late term abortion - as you will see not only is most of the brain missing but also the overlying skull

Microcephaly - most of the brain is missing but the skull is intact

How is this functionally different from a brain dead patient (actually I can answer that one but I would like to see you attempt it)

And there it is, your inevitable "strawman" claim that indicates you are out of ideas. Whether its gun control, Australia's failed gun ban, or abortion, you always trot out the "strawman" when you have lost.

Would you kill a 1 month old baby that was found to be abnormal, maybe it is discovered it has an major organ defect or a mental illness? That case is no different than discovering a post 20 week pre-born baby is abnormal. Both are people.

There is no difference in your logic between killing an abnormal pre-born and an abnormal post-born of any age. In your world, all abnormal people should be "aborted" - you just won't admit it.
