Puerto Ricans are already U.S. citizens. If they come to the mainland, it's called moving, not immigration. They do not have senators, but they do have representatives in the House. They cannot vote for President. They pay income taxes.

Catholicism is the dominant religion. However, most Catholics vote for Democrats. They would be no different.

If Puerto Rico becomes the 51st State then each and every man, woman, and child in Puerto Rico will assume over $40,000 in US debt. Personally I think they're foolish to want to become a state but if they want to assume this part of the US national debt then they're welcome to it. Forty thousand dollars per person is a lot of money to just become a US state when they can have virtually all of the benefits (e.g. national defense) without this financial obligation.

There are roughly 40 million immigrants in the United States leading productive lives that benefit our nation and even with this we need more. Often delegated to jobs of hard labor and low wages they perform tasks that most Americans would refuse to do. The wealth of America has been built on the backs of immigrants since the earliest days of the United States while a small percentage of "white" Americans have reaped the profits of that labor. Without immigtration of fundamentally unskilled immigrant labor the economy of the United States would collapse but don't tell the ignorant racists these simple facts.

They live in denial of reality in a mythical world where only the very wealthy white minority matter, which, by the way, use low paid immigrants to mow their lawns and take care of their children at poverty level wages.

Cuba was an interesting situation.
Yes we should have kept it, it was very much one of the biggest prizes of the war. There were even talks of making it a state while the war was still going on. The reason things turned out the way they did was because of the press (the press was also partially responsible for the war starting because loads of newspapers printed that the Spanish had blown up the Main before an investigation could even start, causing most Americans to instantly turn against the Spanish and clamor for a war). During the war the newspapers constantly made comparisons to our own revolution, making it seem like Cuba were us, Spain was England, and we were playing the role France had played. Making it seem like we were just being a generous helping liberator that would allow them to have independence once the war was over. By the time the conflict ended, most Americans believed this, and so to avoid PR disaster, the government had to bitterly forget about owning the island (except Guantanamo Bay, we kept that bit). Other territories we did hold on to though, some for better or for worse, such as Puerto Rico, and Guam. The Philippines were a mistake on our part and we should have left them alone. They thought we would let them have their independence like we did with Cuba, but since they were so far away, there was very little press, or PR pressure to let them be on their own, so we stayed, which led to them revolting... and us killing 600,000 of them... we did let them go after WW2 at least, and they harbor no ill will, with most of their national dislike still pointed towards Japan, not us.

 

1. Puerto Ricans are already American.

2. The GOP will only further reduce it's strength if it opposes statehood for PR. If PR were to become a state, yes, it's senators and probably half of it's congressmen would be Democrats. However keep in mind that any party that opposes statehood will likely be labeled as xenophobic and further lose the latino vote. If the GOP stonewalls statehood for PR, look to see it's share of the latino vote go from 30% to 20% or less.

 

The sooner Israel gets nuked the better off the world will be. It looks like the Iranians are dumber than cave men. They should have just bought some nukes since the seem incapable of building some on their own. Israel isn't our concern.

The Puerto Rico issue needs to be resolved. It's been going on for 114 years. Since they are already citizens they might as well become a State. Get it done.

 

Even if the Repubs lose Latino votes it really wouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things. So from that standpoint it's senseless for the Repubs to worry about it.

Puerto Rico should become a State because it's the right thing to do.

 

If puerto rico and DC become states that is 2 or 3 more electoral votes for Democrats in the elections

 

Then let Eastern Washington/Oregon and the panhandle of Idaho become state. It would be as red as Wyoming.
