I use a short barrel AK with a short clip and these http://www.midwayusa.com/product/48...x39mm-150-grain-jacketed-soft-point-box-of-20 for deer hunting.

The gun is more versatile than a bolt action, more maneuverable in the field and faster to pull on target. The ballistics of the round are such that it is really the perfect all around medium power medium range deer bullet.

An AR would be much the same for all game smaller than deer.

An AR-15 is perfectly adequate for shooting coyotes - a common varmint in the West and spreading rapidly to the east - and wolves.

The AR-15 is a robust and durable piece of machinery that is fairly tolerant of the abuse some hunting rifles have to live with.

The AR-15 is accurate out to the limits of the visual acuity of the marksman.

A Ruger 10-22 is capable of firing as many rounds as a AR-15. The smaller .22 LR rounds are eminently capable of killing a person, especially children. You can tart the 10-22 up with military looking furniture and 30 shot banana clips. Does that make the ubiquitous 10-22 an assault rifle.

When you are speaking of the Federal government, there is no such thing as "reasonable regulation." One need only review the history of New Source Review (40 CFR 52.21) to see that regulations intended to be moderate and reasonable can and will be extended into something radical and unreasonable.

This is why the people cannot give the federal government so much as a millimeter of regulatory slack. the government will certainly NOT give the people any regulatory slack.

Hey, if a person has to resort to using handguns and resorting quickly to kill tons of kids than I'm willing to take that risk over them showing up with a killing machine that sprays bullets everywhere. You gun nuts are weird. Just because some guy can accurately shoot some targets with a pistol means that semi-automatic rifles should be legal. Great logic, lol.

    I addressed your question.

AR-15's are accurate firearms. More accurate? More accurate than what? The accuracy depends on the type and quality of upper used. The question is meaningless.

As for the utilitarian reason for the design? I suggest reading a book being that the design process was lengthy and I imagine there were a number of reasons for the design in individual components.

You just have no idea about how deadly a pistol can be in close quarters. I have already shown you an example of how an amateur shooter was able to kill thirty-two people with pistols. It has nothing to do with the gun and everything to do with HOW YOU USE IT.

What little boys say when they're caught acting like little boys.

The design of these weapons mimics military weapons the same as a kid's gun mimics military weapons.

The military versions have specific utilitarian reasons for their design. The civilian version share the design for aesthetic reasons.

There is one thing these weapons do share with the "real" version. They're both designed to kill lots of people very quickly.

There are better weapons for hunting.
There are better weapons for self defense.

But those weapons don't let you play soldier.

Still reading through this I think it should be noted that a 10 shot clip fed 22 (worse a 10/22 with a 30 rnd clip) could have been just as or more deadly. Lower recoil makes actually aiming and shooting easier.

The M16-A4 service rifle is a semi-auto. Every service rifle carried by a Marine in combat is semi-automatic, even the M4. Only SF get fully auto modifications.

how is it different than any other design?

it's a small caliber rifle good for varmint hunting.
AR's are extremely accurate out to an effective range of about 200 meters.
I'm sure some people do. but that's irrelevant. the AR is not some big scary weapon that is involved in numerous gun related homicides. It is simply a semi automatic rifle no different or deadlier than a ruger 10/22.

Thanks for your input. Useless. Irrelevant. But input nonetheless.

    Oh, and completely UNREASONABLE.

I am of the mind that the M-16 typically has the burst setting, and the A4 was actually full auto?

Who cares. That's a red herring. The guy did not use a pistol to kill 20 children. He used a semi-auto and sprayed 100s of bullets at them in a classroom. How many people you can kill with a pistol does not matter in this case.

This is totally irrational and inconsistent. You think it's okay if people get killed by pistols but not semi-auto rifles? Makes little difference to the dead people how they got shot...

You can "play solider" with any type of firearm.

    "Better" is relative.

I would leave that definition to those who actually know something about firearms.

Being that you repeatably demonstrate your lack of authority on the topic every time you partake in it.

I'm not legislating " personal responsibility and values."

I'm saying that if you've had the training I will choose to trust you. If not, then I choose not to trust you and while you may have the weapon you cannot legally buy ammunition for it.

So he had a full auto then? Spraying all those rounds.

The rifle I carried in Iraq was an M16-A4 service rifle and it had semi and burst fire; the M4A1 I carried in SE Asia was also burst and semi; the only fully auto modifications are given to special forces, as far as I am aware; the fully auto modification was taken off of standard service rifles after Vietnam because Marines and Soldiers were wasting so much ammo and not firing as accurately as they could. That is why it always annoys me when people fixate on the rate of fire. The rate of fire only determines how fast you can fire, not how accurately you can hit your target, which is the most important aspect of combat shooting.

"I would leave that definition to those who actually know something about firearms."

    Taxcutter says:
Problem is that all too much policy about guns is made by people who barely know which end to point at the target.

    Sure it does.

You say that you have a handgun and no one needs a gun that can shoot a hundred rounds like your handgun.

So you contradict yourself and choose to move the goal posts.

But reality, you are already eating crow.

because it's no different than any other semi auto rifle or handgun. I't is actually used very very rarely in gun related crimes. Handguns are by far the most used firearm for homocide.

why do you want to ban a gun that is used in .000000000000001% of crimes?
