I meant, can you point to any examples of these people doing what you say they do, as in, in the act of being a hypocrite. I know many people who claim to be "progressives." But I don't recall seeing many, if I've ever seen any at all, praise black or brown people for having pride in their heritage while chastising whites for doing the same. Perhaps such people do exist, but I want to know who they are and your picture does not show this. It could be the case that one or both of those women fit the description, but with no words or any idea what's going on in that picture, it is difficult to impossible to tell. It lacks context. Do you have a better example? Something clearer? Something that more accurately illustrates your point? -Meta
White Shame is a derivative of the concept of White Privilege. But there is a duality in all things. If White Shame exists then White Pride must also exist in the same way that good must exist to balance evil.
All I care about is consistency. It's either cool for everyone or not cool for anyone. Saying it's okay for one group to have racial pride and not okay for another is the very definition of racism. Pride and superiority are not the same thing.
I dont get it, what is the point of this pic? Is she proposing? Apologizing for what her ancestors did to his ancestors? Offering oral sex? Can you clue me in?
If 11 months out of the year America has "white history months" then the same assessment can be made for africa and asia.
Since people of non-minority race are oppressed by the government, they cannot publicly to be proud for themselves. That is a main point.
I'm not proud that I'm white. I had nothing to do with it. I am, however, proud that I can solve sets of simultaneous partial differential equations (sometimes). I had a lot to do with that.
Pride is a function of ego and it makes people lesser so if you want to be a psychologically smaller person than you are go right ahead and be proud, it'll take you there. Racists are funny.
See? This is exactly what I was getting at. There's no context given to go along with that picture, it could mean just about anything...
Wouldn't racial pride depend on the era, or the action that makes race relative to the moment? During the civil rights movement, was it racist for people of color to find a sense of pride in what was coming to fruition right in front of them, despite the efforts of bigots to keep them "in their places"? In order to feel some pride, shouldn't you validate it with some significant event that should bring about pride? It's so odd to me that this basic concept escapes so many people. I don't subscribe to racial pride, but it's not surprising to me that some black folks were proud watching the election of Barack Obama... because (to them) the event signified that "we, too, are acceptable", when the previous sentiment (held by many) was that "this country will never elect a person of color". If you're just needlessly going around and expressing some sense of pride for something normal & completely unrelated to racial significance, then of course people will challenge that "pride". Racial pride is a reactionary device... being that something horrible or traumatic happened to a people based on race, and then something uplifting happened on a racial basis that made folks shed the prior sense of being the lesser. Why attack that, when we can thumb our noses at the BS that made racial pride a reality in the first place. Imagine if we had always thought of each other as individuals, yet equals.
I'm pro-individuality, myself. So I agree with you on that. But I think that with justifications for racial pride, it's also important to recognize that it's all in what you choose to focus on. If you go looking for excuses to justify one person's pride as being more valid than another's, you can always find them. Doesn't matter what group or what era. The one you've addressed about President Obama is nothing but the current pop culture attitude du jour. Different context will produce different justifications. For instance, my best friend who is white got picked on, bullied, and beaten up by black kids growing up just because he was white. They'd taunt him and call him racial slurs while kicking his ass. Today, he believes in white pride because he's proud of who he is and believes his bullies were wrong to persecute him for how he was born. Is he any less right than the people who feel pride about President Obama?
- I only find myself having anything like "White-Pride" when some Liberal tries to tell me that I'm supposed to have "White-Shame". Like many others on this thread, I find the concept of having pride in something as superficial as your bodies "Paint-Job" kinda silly. If it were a car, unless it was some kind of special show car with a complex and artistic "Paint-Job", I don't think I'd have any "Pride" in owning a Blue Car vs. a Red Car. Having a car with significant Off-Road abilities, or high fuel efficency, or a powerfull load hauling engine, or excellent manueverability or.... These sorts of things are reasonable things to invest Pride in. We are only having this conversation because for forty years, Liberalism has been very sucessful and manipulating racial Pride and Guilt to their political, financial and control personal profit and opposition pursecution. So, I don't really see myself as having allot of White-Pride, though I will stand in solid support of true Racial EQUALITY. What I do have, thanks to this thread, is even more distrust and contempt for Liberals. -
There is an assumption that since western culture is currently dominant that white people of european decent have no reason to not be proud; and most of the time when there is white pride affirmation it is to emphasize their own superiority over other races. But hey, if your feeling insecure, pride it up.
So that applies to all of these "proud to be black" people, songs, etc, right? http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp...29,d.b2U&fp=3e58ffd4bb6095f6&biw=1525&bih=666
Perhaps he is, because what happened to him wasn't & isn't a collectivist feeling. What happened to select black people in this country was felt nationally... so universal that (as stated) hardly anyone thought a black President was on any local radar. What happened to your friend was quite an unfortunate circumstance, yet individual in nature. The scope he found himself is so narrow that a majority of his race would find it too foreign to identify with, which renders group-feeling out of the equation. No law was established to find him inferior, nor would law enforcement turn a blind eye to the transgressions he suffered had they been discovered (yet the same couldn't be said for black people). He was an individual victim, who saw fit to find solace in like-skinned individuals.
Relations between blacks and whites are going to deteriorate because it makes political sense to stoke the fires of hostility. There is no way to get around that fact.
Sometimes I think we all would be better off if we had poorer memories and better vision. Unfortunately, memory paints the context in which we see now, and frames our gaze into the future. Wish it weren't so but you know what wishing gets you.
If middle and lower class White Americans only insisted upon the same Rights of Equal Treatment and racial fairness that they stood up and demand for others (People of Color) in the 1960s for THEMSELVES (White Americans) today, then there would be no Raiding of Whites for political spoils of education, jobs, and other opportunities which are in turn handed out by manipulative Liberals for Pandering Profit. http://www.politicalforum.com/elect...merican-white-voters-solidarity-movement.html The principles of this movement are still something which America NEEDS to survive another two decades. Take away the ability to take Loot, and you don't get Pirates. -
Working and middle class whites must organize using their political enemies as a foil. Their political enemies consist of elite whites and all racial minorities except East and South Asians. Malcolm X used white people as a foil for organizing African America. He was a very smart man. His approach is worthy of emulation.
Just because 90% of CEOs are White Males, does not mean that 90% of White Males are CEOs! This is the core problem of what has gone wrong with American Civil Rights! -
Expand on this, please. Before I bite, I'd like to get a better understanding for what you mean by "used white people as a foil".
