Septimius Severus was a Roman. He didn't defeat Rome. He was in command of Roman Legions who defeated other Roman Legions under other Romans. That he took control of Rome does not mean he defeated Rome itself, but other Roman armies.
Apart from Nero and Domitian most (NOT ALL) of the persecution of Christians was 'ad hoc' and by Jews and local communities rather than Imperial command until Constantine.

I agree with the OT/Tanakh reference. To understand the OT you first need to understand the background to the OT. The civilisations surrounding Israel. The language used to emphasise points and general picture language used.
    One example.
We are told that when David returned from killing Goliath the people shouted 'Saul has killed his thousands, David his ten thousands'. For a start I doubt Saul ever killed a thousand in his lifetime or David ten thousand. When David returned from killing Goliath he had never been into battle before. He had just come from guarding his fathers sheep. The only thing he had possibly killed before was a wolf or bear threatening the sheep. We are simply told that David was far braver than Saul in the people's eyes.
    This occurs time and again.
I don't fully agree with the NT comments, but that is for another day.

Since it is Human Nature for any writer to incorporate their beliefs and opinions as well as have a certain level of bias toward any group they either support or consider an enemy....any ancient Biblical text must be held suspect as to it's truth and accuracy.

Except that knowledge will always increase, and it doesn't take a genius to understand this. In fact, the current age is not a huge difference from, say, the renaissance, or the industrialization. How do you even quantify "knowledge" like that?

Except that we've always had wars, and that rumors of wars are nothing new either. That said, I'm curious about which wars and what rumors of wars you're talking about this time. The goal posts on this particular claim change from generation to generation.

Funny, most of the world is going through a period of extreme prosperity. Compared to what was going on a few generations ago, we're sitting pretty. In fact, we're basically going through a period of extreme luxury. Yes, both nationally and globally. In fact, maybe you should clarify what you're talking about - are we talking on a global scale, or a national scale?

You'd need to define crime... I mean, the bible considers "not believing in god" a pretty darn criminal act. But you can't just throw out random assertions like this. Don just say, "crime is running rampant", say, "Here are global statistics on various crimes. Here is a clear spike in the data in recent years." But I can't back this up either. Violent crime in the US is at an all-time low. Property crime is also considerably lower than it was a few decades ago. So... Nope.

...I'll get back to this one.

I don't even know what this means.

Now this one I'll give you.

Okay. Now it's up to you to demonstrate:
    a) that the claims you have made in this thread are true
    b) that it actually has any prophetic meaning and cannot be chalked up to chance
    c) that the bible is actually accurate

I wouldn't trust you to do any of that. Just like most Christians can't. And that's why people have fallen out of love with god - it's hard to love something that you don't believe exists, and it's hard for most modern people to believe in something with no evidence. Which certainly doesn't mean we "love ourselves" instead. It just means we don't believe in the Christian god or the veracity of the bible. Personally, I think you should quit your job, give up all your worldly possessions (like Jesus told you to!) and run off to live in the mountains, awaiting the end of days. That way, you're no longer a drag on society and we don't have to listen to your insane ranting. :)

P.S. And how's that destruction of Egypt treating you? ^^

I agree. But to a certain degree it is possible to distinguish fact from fiction. But it takes study, which most people won't do, and time, which most
people won't give to do it. Rather they take one of two attitudes. To accept things as they are written, or to dismiss things altogether.

I will agree that if looked at closely an understanding of events and history can be found. But again...most of the stories were developed as teaching tools to get across a message.

You're trying logic...with someone who will never accept logic nor the illogic of his own beliefs.

the Bible is a "Living Book". I know you never heard before but it's true. It's denotes history, present tense and future tense. the writers were visionaires inspired by GOD. no other book on the planet is as accurately depicted.

    Go back to sleep.

If you understood that verse I would give you a pass, but it's obvious you have no clue what GOD meant by "shut up the book until the time of the end". It's a parable. Daniel told Nebchanezzar the future. point blank. without even knowing what King Neb dreamt because he never told him. Daniel read his mind. . and I'll be darned if it ain't playing out JUST LIKE HE SAID. Dainel was a prophet of God. He was able to see into the future. Unlike the wicked palm readers of today. who don't know jack

The bible contains zero historical evidence about anything , there are no records of Jews ever being enslaved in Egypt for starters, there are no records of any Jesus , in the gospels the disciples do not agree what day their messiah was executed and so on.
A book about Cthulhu contains many more historical elements than any christian scripture.

Foolishness. you're in denial. If the Bible is not accurate, then why is Rome, Greece and every empire in history mentioned in it? I guess those empires are not historically factual either huh?

You didn't even deserve a response for that ignorance you wrote. Go back to sleep.

    I know what ILLOGIC is...

"Wars and rumors of war are a sign of the End Times"......now, tell us when there HAVEN'T been wars and rumors of wars in the past 2000 years and why THOSE "wars and rumors of wars" ...didn't count as signs of a coming Apocaplyse???

An interesting bit of history....real history...

Hal Lindsay wrote the first big "End Times prophecy" book, "The Late Great Planet Earth" in....

    1970

that was FORTY THREE YEARS AGO. Which means the average "End Timer" today....has spent the majority of their own lives living WELL past the first big media hype over the "coming Apocalypse".

The Chinese Empire is mentioned in the Bible?!?!? The Mayans? The Aztecs? The Incans?

There has NEVER IN HISTORY been such ongoing talk of wars and rumors of wars for the simple fact that the world wasn't able to communicate as well until the invention of the INTERNET...now people all around the world are discussing it, talking about, spreading rumors aabout it...GET A CLUE.

or Go back to sleep. tuck yourself in good.

    the choice is yours.

Greece was an empire? HAHAHAHA yeah sure i am an ignorant here !!!
( There was never any Greece before 1832)

"Every empire in history" mentions what? the bible is a collection of 1st century nonsense written by a sect of "good jews" known as χρηστιανοί (crestians) .

Just to let you know in Victorian England which was the greatest of all empires they believed that drinking mercury and having sex with virgins cures syphilis , i guess their greatness proves their beliefs , no ?

Yes, Greece was an Empire. Where do you think Gallileo and his philosophies came from? Greek Mythology, etc...???

Sir i am Greek do you really want to go there ?
My ancestors knew that the earth was tilted but no they didn't believe that it was rotating around the sun . Galileo Galilei was a scientist who based his theory on observation and evidence not in any obscure philosophy.

Agreed. Alexander the Great built a vast empire which was divided into 3 when he died. Then the Romans took over.

Oh, but I think some did. Plato accepted the theory and propulgated it. One of his students made a heliocentric model. Aristotle however disagreed and the theory was gradually lost.
Early than than, and you may have to correct me on the name, 'Aristachus' - a native of Samos? also built a heliocentric model.

    1. So of course it's "never been worse than now", right??? Despite the fact that we had a war on this planet that killed TWENTY MILLION PEOPLE....SEVENTY years ago. And nobody "discussed" that war on things like radio or in newspapers. No....we had to wait for "the Internet" before people were actually able to TALK to each other about it.

You could send a telegram from New York to London....a HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS ago. You could talk to somebody in England on the telephone in NINETY years ago. Television...fifty years ago.

But somehow the Bible "predicted" the Internet would be needed for the "End Times' to occur, huh?

    2. For a supposed "Christian"....you sure do engage in personal insults in violation of the same Bible you supposed believe in. Titus 3:2

    So... You're asserting:
    - The genesis account is accurate
    - The entire hebrew population was, for a time, enslaved in egypt
    - There was a literal global flood where the only animals that survived were those who Noah put on his wooden boat (and this was in the previous 10,000 years)
    - Dead men walked the street on the day of Jesus's death
    - Judas both hanged himself with shame and had his guts ripped out by god while feeling utterly unashamed of his actions?

    Here, let me fix that...

Believe it or not, you can have a book with some true things and some false things. For example, Spiderman takes place in New York, which is clearly a real place, but Spiderman is quite clearly fiction. The bible mentioning empires that would have, at the time, been common knowledge is no great feat, nor evidence of its infallibility.

Honestly, what are you doing here? Are you interested in debate or not? Because it seems more like not at the moment. If not, do us all a favor and just go proselytize somewhere else - I'll gladly hear you out, but just throwing claims out with no proof - even claims that are as simple to prove as the one below - isn't going to convince anyone that you're right. Well, maybe DennisTate. He'll latch onto any bad source of information he can find.

So... You're not going to demonstrate your claim? Just for reference, your claim was that the bible references the Aztecs and the Mayans, among others. And you are saying "I'm right, but I'm not going to prove it"? Come on man, it's really easy. If the bible references the Aztecs and the Mayans, all you have to do is cite the passage where it does. FWIW I have read the bible, and I see no reference to either.

    :headdesk:

Greece is the name of the current nation of the Greek archipelago. It is a very new name.

Since Obama does not know who I am. I am sure he does respect the Pope more than me.

How does the fact that you make the claim "The Vatican has more power than the American Government" and give no support for this claim, make me "not that bright"

Is not so simple to agree or disagree. I wish it was, but it's mysticism.

It could be anything imagined, and it's written like they know that would be how it is beforehand, designed that way. I think, maybe it's all the galaxies, explode into existence, then the superwaves emanate outward through space and time, and collide with the stars and planets of other galaxies, some fanciful concept like the big bang, so that makes people seem like tiny specs of dust in the cosmos. Well, not my ego, aint' no spec of dust.

The politics is like, the separation of church and state philosophy, but that is like to drive a wedge into the hearts and minds of people. It's like racism in America, where once upon a time black people were considered to be only worth 3/5, as they were human livestock and not citizens, so then apply that ideal to religion where in the segregation effect between church and state, either one has to be the master while the other is the slave. So, what happens is, freedom of religion is that either the church is only worth 3/5 as much as the state, or that the state is only worth 3/5 as much as the church. Americans simply are incapable of dealing with it in any other way. Caesar is very ill prepared even to receive what is Caesar's much less what is the Lord's, no? And they wonder what is the mark of the beast?
