If you need any proof of just how racist the criminal justice system is in Florida, here it is. http://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...30be5a-ed5c-11e2-9008-61e94a7ea20d_story.html Marissa Alexander case in spotlight after Zimmerman trial More here
If your story has all the facts and is correct, then a great injustice was carried out. She should serve no time. Again, this is if the facts are correct.
She also pointed the gun at the step sons.... Ooops that part was left out. Now i am against the min/max laws but she could have killed any of them with her "warning shot". She left and came back to fire that warning shot. This has nothing to do with self defense or SYG its a women who finally lost it justified or not. "But Angela Corey, the state attorney who prosecuted Alexander and oversaw the Zimmerman case, says there were zero parallels. The facts surrounding Alexanders conviction, she adds, are more complex than the Twitter-fueled pardon campaign makes it appear." You guys loved Corey when she was after Zimmerman and now you are throwing her under the bus its damn funny,
Agreed she is a victim of a poorly worded gun law. That gun law by the way was real popular with liberals. You can't fire a weapon as a warning shot in Florida, it is an assault with a weapon. It should be changed for that exception. However, there are many blacks on the street thanks to stand your ground. 4/5 times it is invoked by black defendants it is successful. So, when you get it, please know it will lead to more people behind bars. Lots of blacks Locked up for life. Then you will be proud.
Yeah, this comparison doesn't work. She left the house and got the gun and went back, shooting over his head while he held his childs hand. While 20 years is a bit harsh, she definitely isn't what is being portrayed here.
The faces of stand your ground, victims and offenders. You will notice many black faces, both acquitted and murdered. Same with whites. http://www.tampabay.com/stand-your-ground-law/fatal-cases
I wouldn't call it racist, however, given all the facts, 20 years for attempted murder on a man who violated the R.O. was over the top. - - - Updated - - - Why do you think there was an R.O. against her ex?
Was Ms Alexander on the ground with with Mr. Alexander on top of her pinning her down, beating her about the head and face?
That is what happens when laws have minimum sentences. She cannot protest her guilt that she admitted to and the jury only took an hour to find. She can rightly protest the sentence that appears to be excessive in almost anyone's eyes but the jury and judge have no say in that. That would be up to the politicians. BTW Tom, her guilt is not in question or race based.
I know that this will make me look like an (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) again but it is about the message you wanna pass . Using a gun while you are not threatened by one is wrong and people shouldn't get away when they do it.
Well then, hope you are carrying an axe if you are threatened by someone with an axe because it would not be fair to the attacker if you could defend yourself with anything else. I mean, being fair to someone that wants to kill you is more important than your life.
It is not about fairness but the social message courts want to pass , when both sides know that even if you win the fight you will probably end up in jail then there is a chance to avoid fighting .
If your life is under immediate threat, you will not likely have the composure to fire a warning shot. SYG doesn't apply here.
Why didnt you quote the OP if your issue is with him... Is it because you are both aligned politically? - - - Updated - - - Neither does self defense as she left and came back......
I don't see this as proof of anything. It is however the problem with minimum sentences. I agree her sentence seems way over the top.
It can be when three persons are violating the retraining order. Like I said, read the restraining order. The husband got that because he has a record of being violent and causing severe bodily damage, a prequisitie of SYG.
This was a black on black violent incident. What does that have to do with whites and George Zimmerman? Nothing.
False. The prior restraining order has nothing to do with this case, much less the SYG Statutes. - - - Updated - - - No. Meaning that your OP is one big lie. Proven by the links and the new thread about SYG and blacks in Florida.
Like some of the other folks stated, I don't think this is a valid comparison. However, I don't think 20 years is a necessary charge for her. I'd say no more than a warning, maybe a misdemeanor charge, and tell her to not do it again. It's definitely an injustice, as no one was harmed. In my eyes, no victim, no crime. She should've just got off with a warning.
She was convicted in a court of law. Libs normally respect the courts. But I guess that only applies when the courts give you what you want. In this case it didn't.
I believe it a result of mandatory sentencing. I would hope that she gets out as quickly as possible.
I agree that the punishment was excessive. This is the same wacko prosecutor who led the lynch mod against George Zimmerman. Maybe she needs to be serving FF's at McDonalds instead of what she's doing now. - - - Updated - - - Is that what happened? Is the woman a 3 time loser?
