Sadly, I believe you are right. Isn't it ironic that the first black President of the United States has led to more racism in this country rather than less? Ironic in an "i'm crying for the world left for my kids" kind of way.
As lax as the gun laws are here in AZ, warning shots are illegal as well. It all stems from some poor little girl who was killed by a bullet falling after being shot in the air during new years or some other celebratory gunfire. So as a result, no weapons can be discharged in the city limits unless for self defense purposes. No warning shots, you have to tell the officers you missed on the first shot. And 20 years is absolutely draconian. An unitended consequence of the feel good gun laws liberals love so much.
EXACTLY! They rush to have laws like this implemented, then cry about them when they are subject to them. It doesn't get anymore insanely childish than that!
Which of course is a utopian wish and does not deal with reality and only puts someone in trouble in a worse position than the criminal.
She went into the garage to try and get away, but didn't have her car keys and the garage door was stuck. That's when she felt trapped and had no other option but to get the gun and try to scare her ex-husband away. Angela Corey is good as her job, but she follows the law. The way the laws are written in Florida is what is at question.
Black Floridians do indeed stand their ground. Posted elsewhere. http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/16/b...d-law-at-disproportionate-rate/#ixzz2ZIs5txHx
someone being injured cannot be the litmus test when deciding such things. while i am not in favor of limiting firearm ownership among law abiding, responsible citizens, i am in favor of punishing the reckless use of guns. firing any weapon needlessly where someone might be injured is recklessness.
What" *******n some of you need to learn to read. That isn't what he said at all. What he DID say was that charges can't be dependent solely on if someone was injured or not.
The article says Marissa had no intention of killing the guy therefore, her life was not in eminent danger. SYG would not apply. BTW Z never invoked the SYG law either.
Except I don't think a minimum of 20 years is unreasonable for attempted murder. However it doesn't seem like this woman was guilty of attempted murder. I think she should be charged with assault for pointing the weapon at people and illegal discharge of a fire-arm. I'd give her three years for these charges. Sounds like Angela over-charged again, but the jury failed to find guilty on a lesser charge.
I have looked at this case last year and the facts show it is not a SYG case. Alexander was leaving after a fight she had and went to her vehicle. She returned to the scene after arming herself and ended up firing a gun in the direction of a child. Reckless behavior. You can't return to the scene to "stand your ground" after the fact. I do think 20 years is quite steep but she was offered a plea deal and refused. She also violated a court order to stay away from her husband. - - - Updated - - - This is true so the OP is comparing apples to oranges.
As it turns out, SYG law in Florida is used proportionally much more by African Americans than whites. http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/16/b...and-your-ground-law-at-disproportionate-rate/
And it is quite likely that if GZ hat taken a warning shot while on his back TM would have taken the gun and GZ would be the dead one.
Blacks benefit from Florida Stand Your Ground law at disproportionate rate http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/16/b...and-your-ground-law-at-disproportionate-rate/ Holder wants it gone too and it benefits blacks. Of course he only cares about stirring up racial tensions.
LOL. I can appreciate the thought. But in all honesty, I wouldn't touch her with your dick. FYI, she can be removed by the Governor. Many of us down here are emailing him to do so. He got my 2 cents about an hour ago. Floridians, here's the link http://www.flgov.com/contact-gov-scott/email-the-governor/
