It strikes me that Liberalism teaches (implies) that life is not fair. That would explain a lot of their self-defeating beliefs and political policies and life-policies.

Don't agree or disagree with me, just say if you are a Conservative or an anti-Conservative and whether you think life is fair. I didn't say to declare that you are a Liberal because some Liberals don't want to label themselves as Liberals, but they are certainly anti-Cons.

I don't think either side believes life is fair. The difference is that conservatives are mature enough to recognize this as an inevitability of nature and go on with their lives anyway, making the best of what they have. Whereas liberals believe that life "should be" fair and thus it is their duty to make it fair at all costs. And so they'll do whatever they have to for that to happen. No matter what laws they have to put in place, who they have to screw, or whatever. If they have to legislate that water must flow uphill, so help them, they'll do it. And this is what turns them into such busybody authoritarians. The inability to let go and just live and let live.

Does it not depend utterly on how you define the word 'fair'. The real problem is that the left defines words quite differently than do those on the right.
The left defines justice and fairness as everyone having the same thing. In reality this is quite unjust. Why should the guy willing to work sixteen hour days have no more than the guy who will not work at all?

I'm very conservative, and I know life isn't fair. It is an impossibility. I don't see it as a liberal/conservative thing. Anybody with brains realizes that life isn't fair. Conservatives realize this is a fact, and don't worry about it. Liberals see it as a wrong, and think that life should be fair.

As my then 8-yr old said to his brother, "life isn't fair, but life is good."

Life is unfair. Everyone recognizes this, and deals with it. Liberals recognize this just like anyone else.

However, Liberals will look at things that SHOULD be fair, and look to correct them. Conservatives dont, unless it effects them directly.

One example is public school funding. Currently, most schools are funded via local property tax. This is inherently unfair to poor areas, because it means they will not receive far less funding for their schools as a school 1 mile up the street gets. In fact, I would dare say that the school for underprivlidged schools has MORE need of money than a school in richer neighborhoods.

A conservative will look at this and say "I made the choice to pay higher taxes so my child could go to a better school"
A liberal will look at this and say "Schools should receive generally equal funding"

I saw a comic the other day that explained it perfectly. Basically, the idea went as such.

You have 3 people. one is 3 foot tall, the other 4 foot tall, and the other 5 foot tall. They are trying to look over a 6 foot wall at something.

The conservative idea of fairness is that everyone gets a box that is exactly 2 feet tall. Everyone has the same size box to stand on, so no one should complain. Except given this, the ONLY person able to see over the wall was the person who was 5' tall. The other two still couldnt see anything, because the box wasnt tall enough. But they have no right to complain, because they got the same size box as the other people. If thats not good enough. too bad, you dont get to see over the wall.

The same comic was presented again with a liberal viewpoint, The 3 foot tall person had a 4 foot tall box. The 4 foot tall person had a box that was 3 feet tall. And the 5 foot person had a box that was 2 feet tall.

Everyone got to look over the wall.

If your portfolio is popping and bulging out all over the place, I'm sure you'd side with life being 'fair'. If you're poor? Not so much. I think that encompasses the bulk of the populous opinion rather accurately.

Depends on whose weiner you're willing to inhale, and who you know in the corporate world. Noone "works", except for the CEO. We all know that.

Well, I don't subscribe to this reality personally but, I recognize that many do. We know that actual "work" isn't very rewarding in the corporate world (unless you're CEO).

I work in the corporate world and I LOVE my work most of the time and I'm no CEO. Not anywhere near the bottom either. I'd say I'm rewarded very well all things considered and life is good. Good enough where my wife technically doesn't have to work for us to be comfortable. Thats all-right in my book.

On the marketing side. And life is as fair as you want it to be. Besides a catastrophe or accident you had zero control over, your life is what YOU make it. Anyone who says otherwise is a loser excuse maker, no offense.

As usual you get it backwards. The left wants everyone to make do with the same sox box the right wants everyone to have the opportunity to create whatever sort and size of box they want to build. Hell if need be we will even train you in the art of building boxes OJT, but if you don't want to learn or build you own damn box it isn't incumbent on me to furnish you one.

So, we're basically talking Glengarry Glen Ross, here?
Such claims are just ludicrous drivel no one over the age of seven could possibly believe. As we would expect from Marketing.
One too many Tony Robbins seminars...
That is evil, dishonest "blame the victim" filth, no offense.

Close, but not spot on. Unfairness isn't always a wrong; it really depends on the source of the unfairness.

If I make more money because I'm smarter or more creative than you, no big deal.

But liberals would like to make sure that everyone gets a decent shot at climbing the ladder. Not guarantee that everyone can climb it equally well, but try to remove barriers that have nothing to do with the inherent qualities of each person.

The example of unequal education in the public schools is a good one. There is no compelling reason (and many good arguments against) to accept a system where schools in wealthy areas are always better than schools in poor areas. Arguably the schools in poor areas need *better* schools, in order to give poor kids opportunities that are even remotely close to that of the kids from the wealthy areas.

You cannot (and should not) try to limit the resource wealthy parents spend on their kids: if they want to pay for tutoring and other extras, that's fine, and part of the built-in advantage of being wealthy.

But the schools themselves should be tailored so that someone graduating from either one will have received a comparable education and have comparable prospects in the job market.

It's *true* equality of opportunity, not the faux version that conservatives espouse.

Every adult knows life is not fair.
    How would realism be self-defeating?
Both conservatives and liberals are aware that life is not fair. The difference is that liberals blame conservatives, and conservatives blame the victim.

Life is never going to be always fair, you are going to go through your own trials and tests throughout it. it all depends on how you take it i.e. are you gonna move forward and disregard the negative in your way or are you gonna fold and expect it to just come to you because you just think you deserve it?

no matter what we do something is always going to offend you personally or get in your way and the only thing you can do about it is let it roll of your shoulders and keep your eye on the prize.

I am neither liberal or conservative. i dont claim any party but my own.
