Talk about nonsense. I guess all those minority millionaire athletes and CEOs that started from nothing are victims too? That guy who drinks and drives is a victim? The person who robs you? The rapist? All victims? A person who makes bad life decisions that effects their future in a negative way is NOT a victim. Sorry. Take your crazy talk elsewhere. Good day.

You Cons are making what I consider enlightened posts when you mention how liberals attempt to "force a fairness" into human life. While their motive is undoubtedly good at some level in that attempt, it seems that that attempt is going to backfire upon humanity, and we seem to see plenty of evidence of that every day these days.

I would ask you though, to give deeper thought to the concept of life as being fair. Fair doesn't mean that you automatically get everything you want, it means that with the right EFFORT you can get everything (or certainly most everything) you want. The differences which I see between Con and Lib is this aspect certainly hinge around around the degree of secularity or spirituality which each one reflects, but I am trying to bring out the point about so-called political philosophies and not metaphysical philosophies.

I don't think libs believe life is not fair any more than conservatives. Liberals do believe that government should have the power to level the playing field in order to counterbalance the unfairness. I think that's the only difference.

I'm sure there is no direct relationship, given that there are good and bad ways to spend money.

However, it's a bit silly to claim that money doesn't matter.

The general point -- that we should devote extra resources to help challenged kids overcome the extra barriers they face -- stands. The trick is figuring out what those resources should be, and the best way to employ them.

Personally, I'd think that poor districts should have things like free, all-day before- and after-school programs. Get the kids there early, give them a good breakfast; keep them after so they can do homework, get tutoring help, interact with mentors, participate in clubs, etc. Have programs that will go get kids whose parents have trouble getting them to school, or who pose a truancy problem.

IOW, keep them in a supportive, pro-academics environment for as much of the day as possible, to partially counteract a poor home environment.

Thats a pretty dang good summation of things. One important thing that you left out is that in reality the Liberal practices this Civic Eutopia and philanthropy through someone elses dollar. They believe that SOMEBODY should help the 'old lady cross the road' and it should be the government(who magically prints up money).

We've been doing that for more than forty years now. Study after study finds that virtually every advantage gained through programs like head start disappears within 3 years of the kids starting school. All the money in the world doesn't trump crab pot syndrome.

Yep we would do much better to leave the kids at home with their parents instead of forcing "early learning" on them which does nothing to help in the future.

Conservatives tend to do similar things, but it's with the goal of "security" or traditionalism.

For example, while both parties have been complicit with the surveillance state, conservatives tend to be more paranoid with "national security".

Fair in that it is equally unfair mostly.

Most anti-libs and anti-cons feel that something is trying to treat them unfairly eh?

Is that why we have over 80 different federal programs designed to keep the poor man down and dependant on the government? That is how the democrats intend to keep it, cause as long as you vote for em, they will indeed provide. Life is what you make it.

It's incredibly dishonest and/or stupid to say these programs are designed to keep the poor man down.

How on God's green earth can anyone be stupid enough to believe these stories from the GOP PR/BS machine??

Trouble is neither does leaving them home with mom and dad one of whom often is not there and the other of wom is addicted to something or the other that precludes them being a decent role model let alone a good parent.

Really? We will get off topic showing how completely inaccurate you are. So I will keep this short and sweet with one simple question, feel free to PM me your response. Please explain why you think LBJ's "Great Society" polocies have been a success and how things are better for the down trodden today. Ask any rational thinking person and they will tell you that all that has changed is the plantation.

And lets not forget that the studies dont account for the money spent. Even if the gains were real that doesn't translate directly to it being worthwhile. If the government spent $10,000,000 on a special classroom and it yielded a 1% increase in GPA for the students that clearly isn't worth the cost.

I think you are in denial about your party's motives. Or ignorance about them. Probably denial.

And hey, Jesus would have been a liberal in some categories certainly, but there is no doubt he was largely a Conservative in what you call the SOCIAL category . And after all, the social (moral) aspect is very much the main reason for his visit.

Notice that when Jesus saw the crippled and the blind, he healed them. He didn't hand them a welfare check to get them through till the next time he was in the area.

Liberals need to learn to HEAL the poor, not give them a welfare check.

Yes, they have been more 'paranoid' with Natl Security.

But if you look back at how frightened liberals AND cons were on 9/11/2001, this what you call 'paranoia' may make more sense to you.
I think most liberals have selective memory loss when it comes to that day.

The reason 9/11 happened is a combination of bad foreign policy and intelligence agencies not communicating correctly with each other.

All the reductions in privacy and civil liberties don't make us safer and they would be rather ineffective at stopping another 9/11 style attack.

As the Boston bombing showed, there are much simpler ways to kill and maim people anyway. And the OKC bombing killed plenty of people as well, but you didn't see the same kind of fearmongering shortly after that.

Well let's hope that doesn't define most of them but even for them we should not be spending money on overtrained babysitters so they can sit home and abuse themselves with drugs and if that is what they are doing lets get the kids out of there and cut off all aid to the parents. At the least let's get rid of Headstart and just open government daycare where we can hire minimum wage babysitters to take care them and let them play in safety.

The problem isn't just their parents either. The whole damn culture is going to hell largely because of leftist nonsense. Turm on your TV set to prime time. Dad is an idiot, if he's there at all. Kids are smart alecky mouthy little twits and if they aren't black they're genrally know nothing little creepazoids.
Caucasian kids whoa re smart are made funny of and belittled. Mr. Business man is aways a shady bastard with delusions of grandeur on the rare occassions he's depicted at all. And we wonder why kids grow up thinking being smart and well educated is not what they want to do?

Hell even the one's that do get good parenting and are willing to try and work their butts off get (*)(*)(*)(*) on by everyone else until they give up. Crab pot at its finest, decry success, never fail to make sure that success is always associated with dirty dealing and we set back and wonder why almost no one want's to be an entepreneur these days and our best and brightest wind up in government trying their level headed best to make sure no one outside of government can do very much at all without a horde of know nothing bureaucrats looking over their shoulder second guessing their every move. You think pot was expensive before wait until it's legal...

And government cannot make anyone make and deter them from doing so by enabling them not to have to.

Now that's not the "official" story. That one states that guys with box cutters shut down our military and intelligence systems for a couple of hours, controlled by some dude named Osama from a cave in Afghanistan.

I guess some people interpret it that way, but the official accounts acknowledge the government failures that allowed our security protocols to be breached.

Life is not fair, that is why we need more entitlements and welfare.
