All depends on what one defines as a "rogue state". In any case, GENERALLY, boycotts don't have a good history for being very effective. And sometimes, they backfire and provide MORE SALES to the object of the boycott. No, Palestineans attacked only in the Israeli War of Independence and in numerous terrrorists attacks of varying sorts. I believe you are referring to the Egyptians, Syrians and Jordanians when you refer to the past military enemies of Israel who invaded (and in 1967 it was the Israelis doing the invading). As for defending the lands wonl, it's amazing how the boundaries of the land being defended keep growing and expanding; at this rate Israel will defend itself into a conquest of the entire Levant.

Why don;t you drop the rhetoric and admit that both sides have warts on their past actions, but for the last few decades Israel has definitely had the upper hand militarily and inside its controlled territories (note the careful phrase I just used). Civilian casualties have been about a 4:1 ratio (Palestinean:Israeli) and about a 9:1 ratio in deaths of children during the past quarter century. I

f those ratios were reversed and the loss of land was reversed (in 1967 Israelis owned about 4% of the West Bank - virtually all in Jerusalem - while today the government and private citizens of Israel own 42% of the West Bank) would Israelis act in a more peaceful manner than the Palestineans do? I don't think so, although I do believe their actions would be a lot more effective than the Palestineans have been.

 

The Israelis were forced to take much of the land which was sitting idly by, because the Arabs could not sell it to them for fear of reprisal by their Muslim brethren since it would be legitimizing Israeli control. If any of the land was sold, it would have been by the Arab Christians who wanted a better life for themselves and their children, than the life which they were having in a predominantly Muslim land.

Anyway I am only assuming all this from the little I have read, so it might not be totally accurate.

Margot I think the problem is the Muslim mentality of perceiving any leeway by Israel as a sign of weakness. The Arabs, and for that matter the Iranians will only demand more and more. Margot the Arabs were not in that land for two thousand years. The Jews and Romans were, and by Romans I mean the Christian citizens of the Eastern Roman Empire. They spoke either Greek or their local languages until Mohamed came with his invading armies. The Christians either left or were forced to convert, basically the same thing that is going on today throughout the Middle East.

After the conquest and massacre of the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the First Crusade, people were brought in from the Byzantine Empire and Europe to repopulate it, so the Arabs today have no historical relation to that land what so ever. This though doesn't really mean anything other then combatting Palestinian propaganda which is ongoing. What does mean something is that the land deteriorated under the Ottomans until the Jewish settlers began coming from Russia. It was these settlers that planted the citrus trees in the desert and changed the climate, bringing in more humidity. I mean come on, let's give credit where credit is due.

This is not meant to undermine the original inhabitants, but rather some of the antiquated concepts still existent in Islam which limits the commercial potential of the Muslim Arabs.

 

The Arabs have been in Palestine since the time of Abraham.. Sargon 2 settled four Arab tribes in Samaria circa 700 BC.. and Ezra wrote about them after the Babylonian exile.

WikiIslam is not a hate site. Websites which are critical of a certain faith system cannot be labelled as "hate sites". This kind of labeling is an attempt as censorship.
