Following a standing ovation at his address to the standing-room-only crowd, Dr. Ben Carson said that the current state of our government and institutions are "very much like Nazi Germany." Carson says, “You had the government using its tools to intimidate the population. We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe.”

Carson warns that our country is in a precarious position, and that political correctness coupled with government intimidation prevents open and honest dialogue.

Gee, I guess being audited twice by the IRS since he spoke at the Obama dinner isn't enough. Then again what can we Americans do when cities and towns are buying armored MRAPS, DHS purchasing 6 billion rounds of ammo and now Obama disintegrating the military and destroying the economy.

It seems Dr. Carson was lecturing us about the evils of our own government, but I still take your post seriously despite that glaring error. I'm nice like that.

Thats charitable of you. When Bush was president we were told there were similarities between the then US government and Nazi Germany. A new president and the same old rhetoric. Even the most rudimentary reading of conditions in Germany would show the true depth of the fallacy.

I don't like the Nazi references either personally, no matter what admin they are applied to, but will cut this guy a break because he has been recently targetted by the IRS and gets to listen to all the Uncle Tom stuff to boot.

I have to admit I have paid essentially no attention to Ben Carson.

But anyone who makes a claim like that is either extremely ignorant or a real idiot.

I hate comments like this. Ones that just throw around the word "nazi" or "Hitler" freely. Those words should carry weight but the more people misuse them and toss them about like it's nothing destroys the power behind the word. It's difficult to take something serious when it is used and it's a shame too because one day something may come along where those words would fit but by then they will have lost all meaning because of the abuse of such words. Get it right people, because we need to preserve the impact that these words have.

I think it also does a dis-service to all those who opposed the evil of the Nazis. As you say it cheapens the value of the words.........sad really

Their's that. I didn't eve think of that to be honest. But you do bring up a good point.

And it's not just those words either. It's like "racist". That gets thrown around a lot too. And I'm sure their's plenty of other words but they escape me right now. We're going to miss some very important things because one day it's going to apply and no one is going to want to listen.

I guess anything said by a conservative Afro-American can be considered Uncle Tom stuff by Progressive elitists . How dare they, those blacks be anything else but what they're told to be. Eh?

It seems to be part of the language of extremism. Rather than taking the time to construct an argument why you dislike a president or other political leader, easier to just brand them with an extremist tag and go with it. Your other point is food for thought. If someone continually cries wolf - One day the wolf will really be there - and the rest writes itself

Just rewatched the video and got more meaning from it. Changing my mind, no problem with Carson using the Nazi reference now as it seems he was making it in a purposeful, ironical way to make a point, not as mere epithet. I had missed that aspect of it earlier.

Hmm..., I didn't see any comments from you when Putin's propaganda teams claimed that Ukrainians were Nazi's because they revolted against a tyrannical rule, so much so that he just stole the Crimea from the Ukraine.

I came to this thread because I do see similarities between the beginning of the Nazi regime and our current times. The constant lies from our great leader. You are compelled to accept them as "truth", or wear the brand of bigot, or at the very least, politically incorrect.
There is also the blatant change into socialism. It's being done much more subtly this time, but the new paradigm is certainly taking shape. We have seen recent threads about America in more than one pivotal crisis. As many people are NOT working as those who are. Debt now equals GDP. The Constitution is being shredded by O"care", and other treacherous acts. Our country has lost it's compass. Our young have been led out of traditional values, to make them ripe for "re-education".
    Same agenda, but more subtle.

I imagine his pediatric neurosurgery patients and colleagues at Johns Hopkins did, but maybe they were all ignorant tea party extremists.

Oh and how many brain surgeries did you perform today?

Why isn't he packing his bags, seeking refuge in some other country? Why does he feel safe enough to accuse the Government of "turning into Nazi's" when he himself knows good and well if that was true he would be killed/thrown in prison? He's just talking, and getting his loony Republican friends excited for his upcoming failed Presidential bid.

He didn't say the govt was turning into nazis, rewatch the video if you even watched it. Why should he be bullied out of the country by IRS harrassment? If he really were making a serious Presidential bid, wouldn't he be watching what he says more? He doesn't have the teflon protection of being able to say any old thing and have it passed off as "well what do you expect, consider the source?" like leftists do.

    Interesting point.

In Nazi Germany, the politically oppressed had to bribe their way out of the country, if they even could.

Considering that Carson doesn't have to bribe anyone to escape the tyranny he feels, he should follow his instincts and escape to someplace with more freedom....like Russia.

You know, you don't have to defend this lunatic to make yourself Conservative.

I'm a green, atheist, grudgingly pro abortion libertarian, but I don't hate black people merely because they happen to be conservative, so I guess none of that previous stuff matters and I actually am conservative.

Typical Conservative rhetoric, but now it's from a Black Guy. Hint, hint, voters.

Hey, do you think they'll pull out a Hispanic person to start spweing Conservative rhetoric? Huh? They already did? Hint, hint?

Why should he (or anyone else for that matter) seek refuge in any country when the US is our home country and a destination for all those from the rest of the world? Ever hear of standing up for what you believe in? You think just because the left can't show any respect for one of the most accomplished surgeons in the world due to their narrow minded agenda he needs to move? Show me one liberal with half the IQ points of Dr. Carson.

Come on, I think you are capable of making a more intelligent post then that.

It makes me sick to see the disdain the libs have for a man like Dr. Carson, they resort to name calling insults and ask why he can't just move somewhere else, ect. All because he doesn't see eye to eye with the leftists dear leader:roll:

What is it about a self made, underdog success story that upsets the left so much?
