One would think reasonable people would prefer a political landscape where people's POV was not necessarily a condition of race, which would evidence that we are moving past race as an issue in politics towards ideas and policy independent of identity politics? Wouldn't that suggest a better, healthier society? No?

 

It would but in the same way that media knows that sex sells, politicians know that race, and a trough of other hot-button topics polarize people and both sides have been doing it all the time. Race is something brought up in almost every single election as one of the more effective rallying calls to one side or another. Sad...but true.

 

Don't listen to Ben Carson. He is simply more PAID Right-wing noise.

The main difference? None of these people had been immediately harrassed by the IRS prior. At least Dr. Carson had personal experience behind his comment, which more and more looks like a wry comment on persistent leftist memes than any real comparison. I think he enjoys the thought of a black conservative using one of the left's favorite imbecilic tactics against them.

Simply because when Putin used the term "Nazi's" in the Ukraine not one MSM agency in the U.S. perked up and claimed Putin was using propaganda. They chimed in, just as when Dr. Carson mentioned the "N word", you and every Progressive were aghast by his use of the word.

 

Because no one here is anywhere near familiar enough with conditions in the Ukraine to argue if that particular government has solid Nazi leanings or not. That is demonstrably not the situation in the US

The uncle tom stuff is nonsense. Neither party cares even a little bit about any poor person in this country, let alone poor black people, they care about them only as voting blocs and nothing more. So the idea that a person must support the Democratic party to be a "real" black person is silly.

 

Good lord!! It is almost as if people are incapable of discussing politics in this country without extreme hysteria and hyperbole. I can absolutely believe that this administration would audit its political opponents, just like I can believe Christie punished someone with traffic. However, it seems like people aren't aware of what Nazis did to their political opponents. When Nazis took power they imprisoned leftists, homosexuals, etc. They also killed large numbers of their political opponents. This simply CAN NOT be compared to an audit. Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning that at all. It is the sort of petty corruption you could expect of Silvio Berlusconi or some one of that ilk. It is completely unacceptable (there is of course no evidence it was ordered by Obama, but where else does accountability lie?). However, making that criticism with a proper amount of perspective is unacceptable!! We need to compare the actions to Nazis or it just isn't enough to encompass how terrible that demon Obama is. It is silly and childish and undermines any attempt at intelligent political discourse in this country.

 

My girlfriend is in medical school right now. She likes to tell me "I used to care about politics." In other words, she knows close to nothing. Knowing many of her classmates, I can tell you from first hand experience, she is far from an outlier. She is great at science and is at a a really good medical school, but she knows very very little about politics. While Dr. Carson's credentials as a medical doctor are highly impressive, that in no way gives him any credentials as a political thinker. You are appealing to authority, and the authority isn't even relevant. He is a man who is very bright in one way, but is clearly in no way an impressive political thinker.

PS. Obviously they are not mutually exclusive, it is just that one clearly doesn't naturally follow the other.

Hitler was a huge supporter of national highway system, so was Eisenhower, he must be a Nazi!!
