http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/13/opinion/sunday/seth-stephens-davidowitz-the-data-of-hate.html Hannah Arendt coined the phrase 'banality of evil' in her 1963 book "Eichmann In Jerusalem" to describe how evil and hatred isn't unique to outsized monsters but perpetrated and grown by seemingly normal unassuming people. This article merely points out what I've always known - that everyday, garden variety evil is often done by the most common person. When we were run out of Indiana in the 1920's by the Klan (Catholic AND black. A twofer!), the white hood wearing true patriots of their day were our neighbours and people we dealt with everyday, according to my grandparents. It hasn't changed much since then and in fact, as the demographics change, will probably get worse. The banality of evil indeed.
Blacks are getting chased out by a different group now. Funny, but I don't think I've ever seen you complain about it. I guess it's not politically useful, since that group also lines up to vote for the same people. http://www.yourblackworld.net/2013/01/black-news/latino-gangs-launch-attacks-on-black-families-in-compton-to-drive-them-out-of-the-city/
White guilt getting America it's first black president, who is and was woefully unqualified, is just another indicator of the closet hate that is seen in every shadow... Bravo!
1. Why would I have commented on, or complained about, it when I knew nothing of it? 2. Now that I know something - it is very wrong. Very and inexcusably wrong. And I'm sure that I speak for all Those People when I thank you for your heartfelt and sincere concern for the black folks of Compton. 3. What does that possibly have to do with the topic? Except as a kind of bizarre justification-by-superficial-equivalency for what happened to us 90 years ago. Nat doesn't comment on something he knew nothing about so something similar that happened for many years across the country by white folks a long time ago was OK? Even by PoFo standards that is bizarre.
Many a Yugo owner kept fixing their junk because they were too proud to admit it was crap from the start... Same thing here...
Hardly, Obama was and is unqualified, it shows, but the utter backlash he deserves won't happen for fears of weak-willed people being offended by being called racist. Actually he is still the lesser evil in comparison to the Red Queen back in 2008, but this is getting bad, and the free passes need to end for the sake of the nation. What's he done for black folks lately? Or ever?
Who is the Red Queen? "What's he done for black folks lately?" What a strange race-obsessed question. What's he done for Serbo-Craots lately? What's he done for Pinoys lately? He's president of all Americans (including you) not just 'black folks' despite the received stormfront orthodoxy.
Huh, now you want to play ignorant, no worries... Just watch the world and learn, it never was what the boy king has done, but what was expected and never came to pass, none of which has anything to do with me, ask yourself if that's the same for you...
Moved to a pretty nice city recently. Mostly white. Compton isn't very white and sounds like a rough place. Coincidence?
Allah bless you brother, but I really have no idea what you are talking about. You know, sometimes 'cute' clever is just 'confusing' clever.
So be it. Bless you as well by all the gods that will. Point being this, you are wrong about me, think hard about what you've said in this place and how you judge others. Think about what was expected of Obama and where we are now. After that, come back and if there is a conversation to have, we can do that...
I've seen you misrepresent alot of items but this one is the worst. The "banality of evil" means evil deeds can be performed by ordinary people who accepted thier governments claim that their deeds were normal and appropriate for the good of the state. Arendt wrote against totalitarianism, and how dictatorial governments convinced their people to voluntarily commit evil deeds through a process of dehumanizing the opposition. Like calling your oppositon "astroturf", or "clingers of guns and religion". You are the example of the banality of evil at work.
Go read the actual article. Dont fall for the BS of this OP. The article has absolutely nothing to do with linking racism and conservatives. The article focuses on a single racist organization - Stormfront - and lists some basic facts about the impact of poor economic conditions and racist acts. It does not mention conservatives, Tea Party, patriots, GOP, Republican, Democrat, and has no left-right slant at all. The article has NOTHING to do with the banality of evil. This OP is nothing more then yet another in the Nat Turner's long line of propaganda attempting to blame conservatives for all evil in the world.
s The article has absolutely nothing to do with your claim in this thread. The article focuses on a single racist organization - Stormfront - and lists some basic facts about the impact of poor economic conditions and racist acts. It does not mention conservatives, Tea Party, patriots, GOP, Republican, Democrat, and has no left-right slant at all. YOU took the article and falsely linked it to your political agenda. You are a propagandist. And thats were you play your part in the banality of evil process. You did not read Arendt's books, she would be disgusted by your actions and misrepresentation. The Germans did not decide overnight to eliminate the Jews and to follow & trust Hitler, it was the result of a 20 year propaganda process of dehumanizing the Nazi's political opposition and creating false enemies and crises to allow the govt to grab more power. The incremental process dehumanizes and isolates the opposition by blaming "them" for past failures, linking "them" to past crimes, blaming current problems and govt failures on "their" obstruction, claimng "they" are a national threat and a revolutionary force to be suppressed. If an individual doesn't have a job its because "they" schemed to benefit unfairly. The govt slowly walks the peoples moral compass off course until evil appears not only acceptable but necessary. Thats your party of "progressives", and you are playing your role in furthering their process of dehumanizing and ostracizing the opposition.
I tried to read it but as usual the NYT gives me a gag reflex. I got to where it said, "Stormfront..." and decided I'd read enough since Stormfront has less to do with conservatives than it does with leftists.
