Objects you put in iCloud are stored on Apple remote servers, not on your own local network. That scenario, in and of itself is as close to posting on the internet as you can get. It is pretty messed up and creepy that hackers did that. This should be a lesson to celebrities, but it's not like this hasn't happened before. The celebrities should no better. But we can't expect them to be rocket scientists, now can we?
