The french government announced today that the 2 carriers who were ordered from russia, will not be delivered. Russia paid already 1.1 billion € for them and russian soldiers were already training on one of them.

The first of the two "Vladivostok" is already on sea trials with russian sailors and recalled back to port. The delivery was planned for late october. It is not clear yet what will happen to the two brand new ships. Since germany want push up its own defense it is likely that both vessels will get a new name and be delieverd to germany.

Wonder how they plan on paying Russia back for the 40% that they have into it. Better fire up the US printing press again. Since the US tax payer provides 75% of NATOs funding I see a big bill headed our way or will Obama try to walk out on this one also. Washington seems hell bent on getting a really good war off the ground.
"The construction of the ship will be shared between the countries with France building about 60 percent and Russia 40. "

Russia does not need them now, order in Ukraine can be restored by the available means. France will ship them to Russia later on, when all this upheaval is over.

too bad it already went back harbor and was controlled from french crew anyways. :)

    - - - Updated - - -

Nope it will not. Germany already said it will take them and incorporate them into our fleet. Russia is not a trading partner for the EU anymore. We wont ship this to russia same reason why we dont ship to north korea

good that the deal has been disrupted. Russia once signed it as a completely redundant move to help France promote her arms, but thankfully this got foiled.

it's understandable france didn't want to take a huge financial hit for cancelling the deal, but other countries are also taking a financial blow makes it politically sellable in france...

Talk of taking away the 2018 WC from russia may potentially be the biggest blow to Putins ego and prestige...

Assualt ships like these aren't in Canada's list of military needs but I wouldn't have objected if we offered to buy them...good for germany if it has stepped up to make the purchase...

Why would the US pay for Frances decision? This isn't a NATO issue it's one nation having the balls to tell a fascist to (*)(*)(*)(*) off

The honor of France is safe and this gives some meaning to the offer of ceasefire from the Pro-Russian side ... a ceasefire was among the conditions to make the supply of the first helicopter carrier possible ... It seems that at Kremlin they are realizing that the West is not joking.

What a pity for Russian Navy, that is a great unit, no doubt.

It is important to hold the pressure up. So far the EU also plans that all member states boycott the worldcup in 2018 in russia.

Soccer world cup without germany, italy, france, spain, portugal, greece, USA, japan, UK...that will propably become the biggest joke in history.

but to see it realistic, why should our teams play inside an enemy nation? It would be like world cup in north korea or iran.

Russia doesn't care because it's a win win situation for her. According to the contract they will have to pay back more money than was given by Russia. The ships were never considered that important, except for some advance equipment it had, which Russia says it can get cheaper elsewhere. The order was put in by Medvedev and at the time the Russian Defense department wondered if they were really needed.

Not to mention that they put 40% into the ships and was mostly on the tech side. I am ssure that none of this is in working order and can be fried if they don't end up in Russias navy. They would not have given France working technology Im sure. So basically France will be stuck with a Carnival Cruise liner.

these are helicopter assualt ships not the type used for blockades, blockading the bearing str an international passage is a stupid idea anyways. ..as is any thought russia could crush the USD, you're out of touch with reality....china siding with russia to destroy the usa? :roflol: the chinese economy is as strong as it is precisely because of the usa, china will choose the usa over russia everytime...

The sanctions put any contract at halt. Which means nothing must be paid to russia. :) considering the money as little friendly gift to the EU.

yup, if the EU orders it's FA's not to go to the WC in russia it's done, regardless what Sep Blatter wants...without EU participation the WC would be a financial disaster, sponsors will pullout as will media coverage...

You seem to be unaware of whats been going on last several years.
Oct 28,2008 Putin advises Jiabao to abandon USD as reserve.
Nov,15th 2008: Iran converts reserves into gold.
Nov. 19th 2008: DJ reports China targeting 4,000 tons of its gold reserves.
Feb. 9 2009: transactions in gold reaches all time high.
March 18 2009: UN supports dumping USD as global reserve currency.
March 30 2009: Russia / China announce co-operation in establishing a new reserve currency.
March 31 2009: China Argentina enter currency swap deal.
April 26 2009: China calls for reform of USD resrve currency status.
March 18 2009: Brazil China enter bilateral trade outside USD.
June 16th 2009: Brazil,Russia India China at BRICS summit call for more diverse, stable predictable currency system.
Nov 3 2009: India buys 6.7 billion IMF gold to hedge USD.
Nov7th 2010 Robert Zoellick World Bank president states G20 should consider employing gold as an intern. reference point.
Dec, 13 20010 France president calls for SDRs as global res. currency.

I wont even go into the progression since 2010. People think we are in the beginning of a currency war when we are actually at the end of the war. This game of musical chairs is going to end badly when the second to the last chair is pulled.

And imagine if, in a similar favorable context, Russia will be able to lose the World Cup in the final match against ... North Korea!

    - - - Updated - - -

    I would do more:

the Free World should organize an other Soccer World Cup, calling it "Free World Cup", just in competition [and in the same days] with the official World Cup in Russia.

All the tech for the ships comes out of St Petersburg. You don't actually think Russia would allow France to have the activation capability to these 2 ships do you? These ships weapons systems are set up for Russian weaponry obviously.
Enjoy your new Carnival Cruise liner.

Tell me if I am wrong but I figured it was due to having a ship yard that would allow year around work on the production of the 2 ships for 3 years straight. What are your thoughts?

But Russia is not at war with Ukraine, so how can Russia have a cease fire? Oh that's right I forgot all about the Great Grand Master Chess Player Vladimir Putin's p34_DWI22303.jpg secret Invisible Stealth Armed Forces that sneak in at night and sneak out before day break.:roflol:

Well one thing's for sure, the rebels will now be freeing Mariupol, Odessa, Kharkov and Kiev. Cry Kolomoisky, cry Yatsenuk, cry Tymoshenko, cry Averof and all the rest of you crumbs, the Ukrainian people will rise again. Hey maybe they'll even free Lviv and give it back to the Poles.
