FCC Considers Banning ‘Redskins’ From Public Airwaves

With all the trash on TV - salacious language, sexual content, violence, etc… the word ‘Redskins’ is far more offensive than the other crap our kids get exposed to.

Our government, in their ever-growing progressive mentality, gets to pick and choose where the constitution applies and where it doesn't.

Yeah, I think this is taking it a bit far. Let those who want to use it, use it, and let the public opinion deal with it.

I think the Congress should go democratic on this issue and ask members of the collective Native-American population itself to mull it over and then vote on whether or not they as a cultural entity are offended by the existence of a football team called the Red Skins. All that anyone has heard from to date are after all the self-appointed activists who may or may not actually represent parts of the Native-American culture.

I figure, if you don't have anything to say about it, then why should anyone care what you think. If a First Nations person feels it's fine to be used, then they should speak up. Squeaky wheels, grease and all that.

I am FOR the Skins so much so that to honor the political *******s in DC the Redskins should change their name. I suggest a name that reflects the dicks in DC and think that dropping the Red portion and replace it with FOUR would be great.

So citizens are petitioning a government agency to look into an issue under their regulation and they say they will investigate and you think it is a progressive plot? Now I understand the right thinks the government shouldn't work on anything but seriously what is the problem with looking at this.

Maybe because it's none of their damn business. Let the free market decide. Geeesh....is there ANYTHING you folks don't think government should decide for you?

The majority of Americans don't seem to have a problem with it, so naturally the federal government will make the decision for them. After all, that was the purpose of the federal government, to decide which speech was permissible on public venues...

another case of pieces of the administration pandering to the Professionally Offended rather than following what the law permits or denies.

Oh, look! It's the chief of the thought police. Thanks so much for deciding which words we're allowed to hear on our own *******n television. It's not like we can decide for ourselves or anything.

When free people ignore or rebuff democrat pet projects, they run straight to the federal government. If you won't cooperate with their agenda voluntarily, then they will just take away your choice by force.

I'm going to buy plenty of Redskins merchandise directly from the Redskins organization just to thwart and annoy these control freak democrats who have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives than sit around and take offense at trivial Americana.

Actually it is the reason the FCC exists to monitor the PUBLIC AIRWAVES. We all own those air waves so yes this is a role of government.

This of course is an emotional and idiotic response. The FCC already does this with the public airwaves and those it is not your own damn TV we are talking about. Only the public airwaves. But clearly you have no idea what thought police are either.

The government has said it will now police hate speech? Wow. Watch out internet. And who in the government will say what is a hate speech?
The same government that allowed this guy to stay employed knowing his racist hate filled show. Was told several times. Wasn't till it received national attention did they do anything. Then they only suspended him with pay. Later they let him go.
These are the people that will tell us what a hateful word is? What's next. If you don't like the name don't cheer for the team.

Most certainly. We already have members of congress voicing in on this. This should be summarily rejected by the FCC citing free speech protects it. We are talking about private enterprise and people asking the federal government to censor what happens in the private sector. Our government has plenty to work on. Worrying about the name of a stupid football team is an abysmal waste of government efforts. With all the outrageous crap we see on our airwaves, this is where people are outraged? I think our priorities are backwards.

I think the government is setting it's self up to a big law suit if it tries. Their is a thing called freedom of speech and if they can allow rap songs out of killing cops and raping your mother and etc. I'd like to see them ban the name Redskins.

What will this do to high school teams named the Redskins? There are several native schools, whos mascot is the redskins, should we ruin their tradition too?

The one trying to ban words from public venues is accusing defenders of free speech of being emotional and idiotic? Don't that just beat all.
