Welcome to the fundamental transformation of America. One step closer to the Orwellian nightmare...

I think these are far more pressing problems than the name of a football team.

Why is the government trying to ruin football? The one thing liberals and conservatives agree on is that football is awesome.

I am not trying to ban anything. You are just being dishonest and emotional.

Yet here you are, apologizing for the FCC attempts at the same, instead of standing up for free speech.

No, Pre-2000 football was awesome. Now you get fined if you hit a receiver too hard.

I watch rugby now, I find it much more enjoyable because they don't care how violent you are and it's non-stop.

So if this goes through, does that mean the Chiefs, the Indians and the Braves will have to change their names too?

first this is not so much a free speech issue since no one's speech will be stopped only where that speech can be used. (Maybe you don't understand what public airwaves are.

What I am saying is that the attack in the OP on Democrats is dishonest, emotional and stupid as a government agency has been petitioned by citizens to look into whether a particular phrase fits within the rules that already exist.
So the OP criticized a government agency for doing what it is created to do. When they finally act we can discuss the Constitutionality of it but here is the thing, unless you want words like (*)(*)(*)(*) or (*)(*)(*)(*) etc or to see blow jobs on TV your argument falls short.

Our current leadership in Washington DC screws up everything they touch. From foreign policy to domestic and economic issues. The IRS and all federal law enforcement is out of control. Instead of getting things back in order, keeping commentators from uttering the word Redskins is the pressing issue of the day? Sheesh....

In an ideal world football would die and this nation would take up rugby (as they did when Teddy Roosevelt briefly banned football).
Rugby produces athletes who can actually run, stay on the field, switch back and forth between offense and defense.
Football produces bloated specialists who couldn't play four downs in a row if their lives depended on it.

Yeah, NFL is pretty much whussified to some extent. No more end-zone dancing either. I love the whole "taunting" call now...lol. Huge testosterone fired men, involved in slamming their bodies together somehow get offended when another player "taunts" them? Get real.

The only reason hard hits, or hitting a "defenseless receiver", no hitting the QB in the legs, ruffing the kicker (even if you simply TOUCH him) exist is because they are all a result of one thing...money. Someone figured out they could sue for money 20 years down the road when the effects of all that physical abuse came around.

It's akin to some of the laws of warfare in the Geneva Convention. Military can only use ball ammo, because hollow points are "cruel and unusual punishment", but it's perfectly OK to spray your enemy with a flame thrower, or blast a hole in his foot with a toe-popper mine, etc. It makes no sense.

Anyone who engages in the profession of football does not have a reasonable expectation of surviving a decade+ long career without injuries or lasting effects. It's asinine to think otherwise.

If there is so much concern over head trauma and brain rattling that they have to neuter the sport, where is the outcry over boxing? Holy crap, that's straight up, blatant head pounding....with no helmet.

The NFL would be smart to add a huge addendum to every player's contract that basically states the NFL can not be held responsible for injuries or long term issues as a result of playing, sign at your own risk.

"Public airwaves" is a misnomer that describes the government monopoly over an openly accessible, naturally occurring medium.

I tried watching rugby, but it's boring, kinda like soccer and golf.

You're upset that an American citizen who happens to teach law has filed a petition with a federal regulatory commission that has promised to consider the complaint? Sorry that the system is working according to plan. Perhaps you'd prefer a third-world dictatorship where citizen complaints are summarily ignored?

Nah, since the Left (and isn't this sort of silliness almost always something generated by the Left?) is insisting that this is an awesomely important thing in the lives of 'Red' people (ha!) then perhaps it's time for the -- oh so concerned! -- Left to, you know, actually get around to asking them what they think about the subject. Bet that most of them don't give a rat's rump, and that mostly it's just a handful of sorehead agitator types who want to make a name for themselves.

Uhhhh... they don't allow rap songs about killing cops and raping your mother to play over the public airwaves. Obscene, indecent, and profane broadcasts are restricted.

So we can't say redskins... but redneck, cracker and white trash is perfectly fine.

    Give me a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing break

    Hypocritical morons

    - - - Updated - - -

Would that same complaint be considered if it was about rednecks, whitey, cracker and white trash?

If so, fine. If not then the system is not working... it's biased.

I'm confused, as I'm pretty sure it is First Nations people who are complaining, with support by those who agree with them.

How come the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Indians get a free pass?

Or the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, for that matter?

Thios wjhole "Redskin" thing is dumb beyond belief, and is just another squirrel to deflect public attention from Hussein Obama's atrocious record.
