Last time I looked your link said, """Although the stories and characters were fictional""

Are you telling me the movies were factual accounts?

And what has the race of Fleming, the WRITER, or the race of the man whose name he used, have to do with the FICTIONAL MOVIE character?

    Answer: Nothing.

Will your enjoyment of the movie be ruined if Bond is black? Then you have issues.....

Not upset...just pointing out the stupidity of it, why would you do it this late in the series? It's like making a film where wonderwoman is suddenly a transvestite, or superman is gay.

It wouldn't fit with the story of bond...there are black Brits...not very many American Brits...sort of by definition.

So you only want changes made to the character that you agree with?

No genius...I'm telling you who inspired the character(Fleming) and he was not black!

I'm not a James Bond fan anyway so I don't give a sh*t if they get an eskimo to play him!

    Learn to read!

It makes no real difference to me since I think I have seen a grand total of ONE Bond movie in my lifetime - but I will confess to being curious what the response from African-Americans would be if Marvel cast a white guy as Blade. Yeah, I could see a major b*tch-fest happening there.

BTW, the only time I can recall switching genders from female to male was Dr. Kafka in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

She was female in the comics, somehow became male for the movie. I doubt many noticed considering how minor s/he is in both media.

YOU couldn't even read nor comprehend your own link.

So skin color is the only thing that matters to you and you feel that there is this law that says if a character is "inspired" ( a word you don't know the meaning of) by a white skinned person then fictional movies must have a white skinned actor as that person because movies have to be realistic....:roflol: :roflol:......

In any case Idris Elba is only a few years younger than Daniel Craig. The next James Bond actor should probably be someone younger.

I'm sure someone would object to the Blade switch but so what? It's a fictional character whose colour is tangential to the story. Just like Bond. And unlike Kunte Kinte where colour is central, for obvious reasons. Colour is not germane to either Bond or Blade so who - aside from stromfront or Rev. Al - would give a s**t?

Would not surprise if the GTA5 megaproduction which now seems to shape culture like no other production, would also shape James Bond. For instance, Q would sport a cane and Eric Holder look alike would run guns to the most oppressed village in the Andes.

Excuse me, I thought that if - as so many PoFo patriots here keep stating - Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and (fill in name of bad Af-Am person) are 'black leaders' then the master race must also have 'white leaders' and Rush seemed like a natural choice.

Who would object? The fan base. If you can't respect the character or fan base enough to be true to the character then don't do it. It's that simple.

I've been a Bond fan all my life, and I'd have no problem with a black Bond. One of the most impressive feats of the franchise is how it has managed to stay relevant for fifty years. That was possible because not only did they change actors, they basically reinvent the series everytime that happens. Sean Connery's films were way, way different than Roger Moore's. Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan couldn't be further apart. And Daniel Craig has shown real genius in the role, while doing stuff that no other James Bond has done, despite the fact that many diehards were predicting catastrophe because he didn't adhere to their image of James Bond (I disagreed having seen him in Layercake).

Changing a character's gender or colour is bound to make purists angry. From an economic perspective, that might not be wise - on the other hand, perhaps you'll gain new fans, not to mention the free publicity you get. Most important of all is whether or not the change works. I don't see why a black man couldn't do a fine job of the role. The character's race really isn't material to the story.

You've been reduced to criticizing rush about movie characters now?

*hint* he was talking about the character, not the actor

The Doctor is a Gallifreyan. There is absolutely no inconsistency in making one of his personas American, in fact it would be an interesting variant.

Now if you make him stupid enough to be a conservative that would be a complete betrayal. I'd definitely stop watching then.

Exactly, but each Bond gains and loses fans. He changes and some like, some don't. The important thing about Bond isn't that he's white or black. It isn't even that he drinks his martinis shaken, ( the idea of a recovering alcoholic Bond has been put forth. ) Bond is Bond and the idea of Bond is subtle and complex which means it is beyond conservatives

A white Shaft would be Sam Spade. Shaft was nothing more than the stereotyped 50's hard boiled detective in the 60's and black.

Changes that don't dramatically alter the story.

Well, I wouldn't care overmuch, but as I said, it would be real interesting to see their heads explode. I don't think that many whites care overmuch about it. I'm thinking only a minuscule amount of people cared that Nick Fury, Alicia Masters, Electro, and the Kingpin started out white in the comics and became black for the movies. I didn't care, especially since I seem to be one of the few people that liked Amazing Spider-Man 2. The FF reboot coming out next year has the Human Torch played by Michael B. Jordan, and I'm a bit curious how they're going to explain his sister being white, but otherwise I'm more concerned that the reboot is going to stink no matter what race the stars are.

Nevertheless, it might be interesting if the Sony Hackers put a story out there that Robbie Robertson, a guy who's somewhat important to Spider-Man, or Miles Morales, were to be played by white dudes. Just to see Farrakhans head explode.

Nah, can't do that. Lindsay Lohan is suing GTA because she thinks one of their characters is a satire of her. Holder would probably have the company audited for ten years in a row if they tried that.

What part of "I'm not a James Bond fan so I don't give a sh*t" did you not understand?

What part of "just pointing out the stupidity of it" did you not understand?

It doesn't have to. Bond can an American born citizen who later moves to England and joins MI6. He can even be played by Matthew McConaughey.

Well, I figured it would be more interesting than the Obama-is-destroying-America-by-handing-out-toys-at-Christmas thread. Not that that isn't something we should all be concerned about.

Right. Let's not try to actually tell a different story or anything here, The essence of Bond is that his life never changes
