Several years ago I met somebody through Facebook who made me aware of how difficult life can be for English speaking residents of Quebec.

I even did up a youtube video in which I quoted her several times.

I have been thinking about how best to gather up support for her community and I believe that the aspect of this situation that most of us can identify with........... is that French speaking young people in the Canadian province of Quebec are NOT free to learn and practice English at the level that they want.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfrzkBSymJI

    English Speaking Canadians.wmv

    .........…

    http://www.politicalforum.com/canad...s-quebec-students-not-free-learn-english.html

Thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of Quebec students NOT free to learn English.

All Canadians in all provinces and in all political parties can agree that it is a terrible thing when French speaking students in Quebec lack the real freedom to learn English.

English is obviously the primary language for international business and scientific research.

For quite valid reasons the French speaking people of Quebec have an animosity toward us English speaking Canadians due to the events of the past four centuries but........... in the year 2015 all of us must get past those ancient hatreds and move into a new era.

    ..............

    As I understand French,

Quebecois French ain't honest, academic French.
Or has that improved over the years.

Most French people in Quebec speak good or fair English. Never had problems communicating with them. In the govt bilingualism is mandatory.

My reason is a bit like a game of chess with several moves........ Ten USA States are discussing the printing up of State currencies and they are encouraging local governments to implement local currencies................. Quebec is the most likely Canadian province to do something similar and those ten states plus the province of Quebec are in a position to set in motion something that can transform the economy of North America and the whole world........

Moi621...… do you think that the artistic community of Quebec are ready to set in motion something that can grow to become colossal?

It was a movement by ordinary people who forced FDR to alter USA central banking policies during the Great Depression. We are in a position where something similar must be done..... ....

I may be wrong.... but I am of the opinion that the reasoning is somewhat similar to why Palestinians and Israelis are at war............… so if the people of Quebec can come to see the larger picture ...… and how our situation with climate change is probably going to affect all seven billion of us........ improving the situation in Quebec for the English speaking minority can show us how to address worse problems elsewhere on earth....????

    What does L' Académie Française
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acad%C3%A9mie_fran%C3%A7aise
    parle avec Quebecois Française?

    If They Wanna Speak French,
Speak French, not Cajun, not Quebecois, etc.

Remember Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady and the truthiness of
"The French don't care what they do, actually, As long as they pronounce properly."

If They Wanna Speak French, Make Them Pronounce It, Properly!

Personal note. I was the sole "Anglophile" in a "Francophile" home in the fifties.
Dad's best years were as a bon vivant in Paris - years later I understood he was an illegal immigrant
Mother served a cuisine I did not realize the rest of the world did not dine, routinely. Lee Marvin appreciated it.
Older brother went Francophile and here was Moi.
Only to point out that I am not an unschooled Anti French bigot, but a "schooled" one.
Let them manage the kitchen! Viva La Cuisine Francais! But little else.
In America we understand the motto, "Got Milk".
Someday I home the motto "Got Arrogance" may similarly be recognized regarding . . . . .

The Ottawan Government of La Canada must declare only the French Language declared in their absurd bilingualism - courtesy of daddy Trudeau, must be compliant with, the French of, L' Académie Française.
Or speak English, the Lord's Language.

    Questions?
    Point made?

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

Americans need to see what's going on with the bilingual situation in Canada. The U.S. is headed there with Spanish and English.

I understand traditional/classical French (and can speak the language), however I find French Canadian goofy from the perspective of a guy that loves hockey and grew up playing the sport and at times against fellow players that were Francophones...

It's just fun ribbing dudes (fellow hockey players) - It's not like I have any issue with Quebec or Montreal...

For the record........ I quit French after Grade 7 but by the time I was in my second year of university I greatly regretted that rather stupid error and took introductory French as an elective that year.

I put a lot of effort into the course and just barely made it through with a pass mark of fifty.

If I had continued to take French from Grades 8 through 12 that introductory French course would have been so much easier.

My wife's first language is Spanish, and I know that it would have been so much easier for me to learn more Spanish if I had continued on with French.

I didn't begin to learn Spanish until I was 41 and it seems that it pretty well too late by then. My wife often makes fun of me at how bad my Spanish still is after 15 years of exposure to it.

    Actually "they" do.

New Brunswick, Northern Ontario and central Manitoba being examples.

Yes......… residents of Quebec who get government jobs must be fully bilingual but........ I also was told about some extreme cases such as an eighty plus year old woman being in a hospital and/or palliative care institution and some of the staff demanded that she speak French....... even though French was not her first language..... English apparently was.

What you are seeing is the last gasps of dinosaurs. When the baby boomers are gone, so will much of the nonsense be. In all fairness, the older boomers came of age when they were second-class in their own province. That has been flipped over long ago. Most Quebecers just want good government. They rejected the PQ provincially and the BQ nationally.

A week or so ago I sent in an e-mail resigning from Canada's Liberal Party and yesterday..... I went to www.PeterMacKay.ca/ clicked on links.... and joined the Conservative Party for two years.

Here is an intriguing reply that I got on this topic in this Facebook group:
