They say an armed society is a polite society. Some of the nicest, most polite people I know I've come to know through my involvement in firearms and shooting sports. I used to stand in line every Thursday morning at my local "big box" sporting goods store to get my allotment of .22LR and the folks in that line were pleasant and orderly. The moment the store opened its doors, there was no mad rush to the ammo department like you'd see when Wal-Mart puts a TV on sale. Nobody gets a beatdown; no elderly are stepped on. Gun people are nice people.

I would hope that they are nice. I would worry if I saw angry people buying ammunition.

I meet some of the nicest people at the golf course. They stand in line for their allotted tee time, very pleasant and orderly. Nobody gets beat down and they yell at you to keep from injuring you should your paths cross, unlike gun people.

    My point, exactly.

You've obviously never been to a gun range. And I've met some real jerks on the golf course...

There are bad people in all walks of life. But the overwhelming majority of gunners I meet are the nicest people you'll find.

An armed society is a recipe for disaster.

You are free to make whatever assumptions you want (and buy a membership at a nicer golf course).

I play mostly private country clubs. That's where the real jerks are. And you will not find a more safety-conscious environment than a NRA-certified range.

I've met a lot of jerks on the golf course. They'll step on your ball for playing too slow etc.

Because gangbangers don't go to golf courses.

I been to quite a few gun rands with friends and such, and yes most people I have met are quite polite and there to help if you need assistance or have a question about anything. Everyone seems to watch out for the safety of others and you will get called out if they find you doing something that is potentially dangerous, but it's polite the first few times.

The thing is people at gun ranges are more prone to have a higher sense of personal and general responsibility. They take gun ownership and gun use very seriously and don't treat them like toys. Also I find they are very educated.

These aren't gangbangers or other forms of thugs, these are respectable people with a high sense of responsibility.

How often do hear about mass shootings in a gun range or gun show?

    Total BS ! http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/two-golfers-sent-emergency-room-after-fight-over-rules-golf

Google "golf fight" you will find hundreds. Shooting range fight not so. Found only two, with a suicide in the top two. How is suicide a fight at the gun range? Oh , I know now it is so the libs can claim gun violence death, not self inflicted.

That's because they are usually white conservative types. And yes, very good people, despite their demonization on the left.

No society is armed more than the USA. I'd say that one need only take a look at the presidential candidates and what passes for debate between them to conclude that being polite is not part of what they are doing.
So... since you don't trample each other waiting for ammo that somehow translates into civic virtue? Your simple, little example translates into every person who owns a gun is nice? Sorry, this is simple minded rubbish.

Like the saying goes, if they were as angry and dangerous as the gun grabbers let on, there wouldn't be any gun grabbers to complain.

So did the LEO that caught them. Are gun ranges bad? You would prefer gun owners had no training?

Those "gun grabbers" merely wish to deny firearm access to those with prior history of being angry and dangerous.

I'm just sharing my observations. I've met a higher proportion of nice people at the gun range than I have at, for example, Wal-Mart. Though I do my best to avoid the latter.

    - - - Updated - - -

My country would not exist were it not for an armed society. We'd all still be royal subjects of some sort or another.

    Correct. Is there a point?

Which has exactly nothing to do with my post.

I'm simply sharing an observation - there is a marked difference between those who start riots at Wal-Mart to save $5 on a TV and those who stand in line waiting to buy ammunition.

I didn't even come close to saying that. Perhaps you ought to go back to school and brush up on your reading comprehension.

No, the simple-minded rubbish is your 'interpretation' of my comments.

Not true. They ultimately wish to deny firearm access to all citizens. And I hasten to add there is no way to insure denial off access to those with "prior history." You only end up making it harder for the nice people to obtain arms.

Fights between guards in the gulags rarely happened. Gulag guards are among some of the nicest people I know. They never trample the elderly or cause rampages like those in Walmart. Sure, they shoot at things, but that's not a problem. That is basically what you are saying...

Well to be fair, that's not really saying much. I think we all know the sorts Wal-Mart can attract...
