Si vis pacem, para bellum - If you want peace, prepare for war

Leave it to the knee jerk communist to think that just because Trump said it, it has to be stupid.

You need to start reading something other than Marx and Mao my friend.

Si vis pacem, para bellum - If you want peace, prepare for war

Trump repeated one of the oldest and most true adages in existence and you think its absurd just because Trump said it.

    You have Trump derangement syndrome.

You can't intimidate jihadists. They want to die. They long to bang the 72 virgins waiting for them in paradise and to be attended by youths in flowing silk.

Dangerous times and a dangerous world. Time to bulk up a diminished military.

Good, then keep helping them do it.

Actually something we have learned in fighting in the Mideast is that Muslims tend to be cowards who only respect power.

Romans still had the best army in the world too. But it was nothing like it used to be and that showed weakness to their enemies.

or maybe they got to high and mighty like Bush and started one to many wars at the same time, thus spreading themselves too thin

And yet, Charles Martel, Jan Sobieski and Eugene of Savoy were quite familiar with the sight of jihadists' backs.

Despite their fanaticism, there's a reason why jihadists haven't taken over the world, and it hasn't been from a want of trying...

We don't use it as it was intended to be used.

ROE need to be shredded and burned. And no politician should ever micro manage a force they know nothing about. Commander in chief tells his joint chiefs (Generals and Admirals) what result he desires in a military mission and gets the hell out of the way.

We need a George S Patton in command of the armed forces, and a CiC with a set of balls, and the common sense to stay out of the way.

I can just imagine the fainting that the delicate snowflakes are experiencing now while reading my post.

Actually no. Hadrian's Wall exists for that reason. The Romans pulled back their military expanse to more defensible boarders well before the fall of the empire. They did spend themselves too thin but that was on panem, bread and games.

Here's a simple guide to defeat a very large, well equipped military and proven more than once. Maybe Trump should read more and talk less.

    You are absolutely correct.

By far we have the best military in the world.
It's also the most powerful military in the world.
    The most global firepower.
The second largest army, right behind China, and they have a billion more people than we do.

We also spend the most money on our military.
And military spending is a huge part of our budget...

    (Same citation as above)

I'm sure Trump could make the military bigger, but we have other priorities to consider too.

I agree with that, I also think Congress should have to declare a war before we can have any more 10+ year wars

yeah, but if you read Sun Tzu, you would realize that it is stupid. Being the biggest does not mean being the best. And increasing the amount of our GDP on the military is not a good way to ensure economic tranquility.

That being said, I do think the military needs to be reformed. Currently there is a dispute on how those dollars are to be spent among the various services and within each service.

Trump has not said much about military procurement. We overspend on needed equipment unnecessarily from the M1 and M2 to the Seawolf to the USS Zimwalt to the F22 and F35 and the V22, just to name a few.

We also have to reform our actual combat forces, especially ground forces. We are not going to be fighting on a traditional battlefield with huge armies, corps, divisions etc against another armed opponent of like minded strength. Thus, our combat forces are going to have to become more mobile but still provide power projection immediately. But that does not mean we cut the strength either.

But Trump, not to mention all the other candidates from both parties, understand this.

Yep when the actual battle happens and the realize that Alah doesn't win battles they are overcome by fear. Historically Muslims are cowards. Hell it isn't even just Islam. They were cowards well before Islam. Their only military successes are the result of massive superiority in numbers.

Didnt Rubio just say that he wanted to rebuild our military and make it the strongest military in the world?

And there is nothing wrong with having a huge military, I mean the reason nobody is dumb enough to come at us right now because of how advanced our military is right now. China has the biggest military out of anyone, I bet nobody is going to step on their front lawn either. Nobody dares screw with China, their man power is enough to scare away the thought.

We need a larger military, we need to cover more of our borders as well as be able to go to war and have a good rotation of troops to keep our fighters fresh. Strength in numbers and military technology. It's a good thing.
