Is this really a matter of perspective:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/voices...o-ask-have-we-lost-all-sense-of-a6997581.html

When we mourn the passing of Prince but not 500 migrants, we have to ask: have we lost all sense of perspective?
Could not one of those dead children among the five hundred souls on the sinking Mediterranean boat become a ‘superstar’?

Has something gone adrift within the moral compass of our ‘news’ reporting? In the past week, 64 Afghans have been killed in the largest bomb to have exploded in Kabul in 15 years. At least 340 were wounded. The Taliban set off their explosives at the very wall of the ‘elite’ security force – watch out for that word ‘elite’ – which was supposed to protect the capital. Whole families were annihilated. No autopsies for them. Local television showed an entire family – a mother and father and three children blown to pieces in a millisecond – while the city’s ambulance service reported that its entire fleet (a miserable 15 vehicles) were mobilised for the rescue effort. One ambulance was so packed with wounded that the back doors came off their hinges.

But Prince also died this week.
Now Afghanistan is the country to which we and our EU partners are happily returning refugees on the grounds that Kabul and its surrounding provinces are “safe”. It is, of course, a lie – as flagrant and potentially as bloody as the infamous weapons of mass destruction we claimed were in Iraq in 2003. By then, we had already promised the Afghans – in 2001 – that we wouldn’t let them down. We wouldn’t forget them as we did after the Soviet war. A Blair promise, of course, and thus worthless.

There was another story on Afghan television last week, which carried its own dark implications for the future. A young man called Sabour was convicted of murdering two American advisers and told the court that he had absolutely no regrets. Afghan social media began to fill with comments in support of the man. He was “a real Afghan,” said one. “A true Afghan.” So much for Afghanistan and its utterly corrupt government and our continued claim that we support this bogus administration and that our advisers are there to produce, well, not ‘Jeffersonian democracy” – as the Americans coyly admitted in 2003 – but at least stability.

But Prince also died this week.

Then there was the latest Mediterranean catastrophe. Up to 500 refugees and migrants were believed to have drowned after refugees from a small vessel sailing out of Libya were transferred onto a larger boat on which Egyptians, Ethiopians, Somalis and Sudanese were traveling. The survivors were landed in Greece, some having seen their families drown. But there were no pictures of the sinking. No autopsies for them, of course. No dead little Aylan Kurdis were washed up on a soft beach for the cameras. They simply drifted straight down to the depths of the ocean to join the other thousands of skeletons who never made it to Europe. Do not reflect that five hundred lives is almost exactly one third the total passenger deaths on the Titanic. Do not mention that another million human beings are likely to choose this Mediterranean passage now that we are closing the straits between Greece and Turkey.

    Because Prince died this week.

No, I don’t begrudge those who mourn this brilliant musician and the social revolution he represented. The ‘Purple Rain’ ‘superstar’ also had fans across the Middle East. There are Arab Facebooks aplenty today expressing their sorrow at his death. But I do wonder if we are going too far. When network television presenters are expressing their condolences to the mayor of Minneapolis and the Eiffel Tower has turned purple, there must surely come a time when we ask ourselves if our sense of priorities has not lost all perspective. Could not one of those three dead children in Kabul have become a ‘Prince’? Or the children among the five hundred souls on the sinking Mediterranean boat? Could not he or she have become a ‘superstar’? How about a few presenters expressing their sorrow for their deaths, too? The colour would be black instead of purple, of course. The Eiffel Tower lights would have to be switched off.

But this will not happen. Because ‘Prince’ died this week.

"Prince" as a SOLO artist NEVER performed on Kirshner. Your claim of seeing him on Kirshner in the 70s is clearly WRONG.

"Prince and the Revolution", his band which wasn't formed until the mid-80s, did perform (apparently) at some time in the mid-80s on Kirshner.

I never said Prince and the Revolution didn't perform on Kirshner.

I said "Prince" (as a solo artist) never performed on Kirshner.

    As usual, I am right.

No he didn't. You are WRONG. Period.

His shows with the Revolution were done in stylish clothing.

You are clearly WRONG on this one.

There is nothing I can do if you want to debate 1+1 = 3.

I was right, you were wrong. Deal with it.

(PS - It must suck to have gone through the effort to prove me wrong, and have your efforts be such an epic FAIL. Better luck in the future.)

    It's happened before.......

Sounds like Prince was kinda kinky. Heard them say that he 'just loved women, crazy about women'. He'd see women and would point out the ones he wanted to meet and they'd be brought over to him...

Ok, all that is fine and good, yet he'd perform in a bra, panties, and garter belt.....?

A man who loved women would ordinarily be dressed in men's clothes, like jeans, leather jacket.......masculine anyway.

Oh well! For some, kinky is a big attraction also.......

TBH.... it doesn't look like a bra to me.
Unless you claim it's a cup zero bra.

"Performed" is the operative word here. Prince's offbeat fashion statements were part of his on stage and theatrical persona. Many described his look as androgynous and that never seemed to be a deterrent to the scores of women that were attracted to him. IMO...his incredible talent and unapologetic sense of individuality was the big turn on when all was said and done. The other day during an interview, one of his friends said "you didn't bring your girlfriend around Prince." Clearly, women adored him just as much as he adored them. As odd as he looked to some...he was one helluva sexy guy.

Oooook! To some women, a guy wearing make-up, a a bra, panties, stockings, garter belt and heard some say he also wore heels, he's 'one helluva sexy guy'.....wow.

Whatever turns you gals on, I guess......lolol.

For this gal - a dude in grubby jeans and a leather jacket, to me, that's sexy. But then I'm one of those females who appreciates genuine masculinity.......

We all have our own definition of 'sexy'.....

That seems to be the likely scenario.

He visited Walgrens drug store 4 times in the week before his death, and they were worried about him, as he was a regular customer and they said he looked thin and ill.

A junkie probably doesn't need to visit Walgrens 4 times in a week. The dude was ill.

But, you never know until you know.

Sure, Marlon Brando looked sexy as hell in The Wild One but, Yul Brynner wore eyeliner and a skirt in The Ten Commandments and no one could deny how manly he looked. If a guy has got...he's got it.

And he sure had it. You also have to keep in mind there are those that dont understand the concept of a showman. He was pure show on stage. Off stage he got more than his share of sexy women that appreciated the fact that he wasnt afraid to be different.

There is something very provocative about a guy that is sure enough of himself to be flamboyant at times. I traveled around Mexico with a Mexican friend that was a street performer and when he was in costume he wore eyeliner and I have to admit that it was indeed provocative.

I agree that there are those that don't fully appreciate the theatrics and drama part of a particular type of showmanship. I love it.

Ummm.....Brynner was a tall, big-chested guy and him wearing a 'skirt' for his role in a Biblical movie, isn't a very good comparison to Prince and his attire of panties, garter belt, heels and all......

But some women do think someone like Prince is 'sexy'.... I prefer the Charles Bronson type.....

    Interesting.

I am from his era. I paid not an iota of attention to him. Always thought he was a bit strange. Can't understand the attention. Two days on MSm about Prince when there is soooo much going on around the world. His death is just a filler for MSM until there's another terrorist attack or mass shooting. Kind of pathetic.

Damn now we talking about Prince being gay? Lol the man was not gay, he pulled more bumper than a body shop. He just was who he was and had his own style, his own personality and simply a sound nobody else is going to be able to mimic. He couldn't stand any of this new teeny bopper type crap music, actually sang as he performed. dude was just simply real, not for you but for himself.

I admire Prince, he did not give a damn and he lived the life he wanted too and he didn't need controversy to stay in the news. Actually a quiet fellow who simply concentrated on his passion for music and needed nothing more. Many people could learn a lot from this guy.
