That is an infringement. Besides, I was very well trained. I may not shoot quite the records I once shot, but compared to most, i believe I can very ably defend this country so long as I am in a woman's combat unit. I can flunk out of Rangers school as well as any woman can. - - - Updated - - - I wish you had the capability to deal with more than a single topic in the same context.
The Militia is not part of any standing Army, or Army Reserve or National Guard, or Coast Guard etc, the Militia consists of unpaid Civilian Volunteers ready to mobilize at a moment's notice, to serve as a Posse augmenting Civilian Law Enforcement, conducting Search & Rescue, on land or at sea, doing things not legal for the Regular Army or Reserves, but legal for a Civilian Militia, the advantage is the Militia operates locally in each area, and is ready on the spot, where might take days to mobilize Regular forces. The Militia is not in place to give you the warm & fuzzys, it is there to serve a most useful purpose not served by the Regular Armed Services, just as the FBI is not there to supplant or replace the Regular Police, they are there to help and assist.
Well there's one problem....in your own OP you stated SCOTUS had ruled gun ownership was independent of militia, therefore you should argue the merits of your mandatory training based on your own comments not what most people believe, yes?
I'm not a fan of any militia that I can find, but I kind of wish there was one. Not only should local militia be training people in firearm use, they should also be training them on local topography, resources, supply chains, evacuation routs and shelters. I doubt we'll get invaded by any foreign military, but having an effective group of trained civilians (locals) can help with all sorts of disasters.
I know I'm coming late to this debate so maybe this has already been covered, but I disagree. If the FF intended for the Militia to be there to fight against enemies both foreign and domestic I don't see the FF wanting them "National Guard" controlled by the government that they may one day have to oppose. I also don't believe that they ever would have intended on the government knowing about all of the various militia's throughout the country, since each state, county, and city/town should be in charge of the training and NOT the federal government.
Does anyone else find this strange? The subject of "The Militia" is very near and dear to the heart of DanielPolos. However he is strangely absent from this discussion. I believe that DanielPolos and Vegas Giants are one in the same person, meaning DanielPolos has multiple accounts in violation of the rules of this forum. Vegas Giants arguments are exactly the same arguments that DanielPolos has been making for months. The movement to boycott responding to DanielPolos comments recently, has brought out his old persona of Vegas Giants. Anyone agree?
The FF were very hostile to the notion of any kind of standing army - or navy for that matter. The Barbary pirates eventually convinced them to tolerate both.
Texas has many independent militia's. I was at Ft Hood for training recently and I met some of these guys. They also patrol the borders and work hand in hand with local LEO agencies for volunteer training. Most are prior service military. I had no idea these existed but am glad they do.
Constitutionally, mandatory militia training can only apply to those in the militia, as a condition of their service in same. This mandatory training cannot be constitutionally applied to those not in the militia, or for reasons outside their service in same, especially as a condition for the exercise of their rights. That is, the state cannot constitutionally force my 98yr old grandmother to train with the militia before she can buy a revolver for self-defense. /topic
We are part of the illuminati. LOL - - - Updated - - - I agree completely. And their training should be certified by the government. Hell I would even give them a grant to get started
The "militia" are not professional, full time soldiers, but citizens who augment 1) the military and 2) the needs of the nation. If some militia directly augments the military, then that part of the militia need to train to the point at which they can be successfully integrated into the existing standing army structure. That would be something like the National Guard and Reserves, but those also consist of many former military. Most "militia" are not directly integrated into the standing professional army but fight secretly behind enemy lines. They are the insurgents, rebels, partisans. Everywhere some type of occupying force exists, the people resisting the occupier are the "militia". People without training do very well as militia. Jack Hinson was a father of 10, lived in the Tennessee-Kentucky border area, opposed secession, was a friend of Grant, had long ago freed his slaves and was an abolitionist. He had no military training. In 1862, after Union soldiers murdered 2 of his sons, Hinson took up his rifle and engaged in sniper warfare and ambushes, killing possibly 100 Union soldiers. Four union regiments were assigned to find Hinson - they failed. Hinson's son Robert (no military experience or training) organized and led an effective partisan group in the same area. That example happens all over, just ask anyone who was in Vietnam, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan.
None of this matters; you missed the premise of the OP. The state cannot Constitutionally require a person to join the militia and undergo militia training as a precondition to their exercise of the right to keep and bear arms.
Then why did militias train and drill in the days of our founding fathers? Why do some train and drill now? - - - Updated - - - You do not have to join a militia. You are already in it. If you want to be a rifleman in that militia you should be trained for that duty. Those who wish to dig the latrines will not require training.
Some drilled and trained with the regular army. Many did not. But as I have repeatedly stated, the "militia" is far more than some sort of National Guard: see my signature.
Yep, you are making the exact same argument as the banned Danielpolos. Where was Vegas Giants when Danielpolos was around? You have multiple accounts. I shall alert the mods.
Plese do. And I shall alert them to your harrassment of me. Contribute to the thread or you have no business here
It's my supposition. Danielpolos posts everyday about the militia. All of the sudden Danielpolos stops posting, and Vegas Giants appears and continues the same argument. Coincidence? I think not.
It is harrassment. If you have nothing to contribute to the topic and clearly you do not please stop harrassing and move on - - - Updated - - - Why do pro second amendment people have so little that is constructive to contribute? Interesting. LOL
LOL! I suspect that in a crisis Vegas would be your Hucklberry to the very end. Then he would be happy to be your sand bag. Ditto for all of us - I hope. Training has not been all that important for effective militia operations at least since Lexington /Concord. 1. Fire at the enemy from cover and concealment. 2. Run to cover and concealment. 3. Fire from cover and concealment 4. ... The logic of the ambush does not require much instruction.
