The Thing Scaring Me about Trump

"Sanctuary cities" are not really sanctuaries for illegals who live otherwise quietly and lawfully. The whole country is pretty much safe for those people. "Sanctuary cities" are cities who refuse to notify ICE when criminals are arrested and jailed who are illegals. "Sanctuary cities" are about protecting criminals from deportation. Why we would want to keep illegal alien criminals in our country is beyond me, but ... *shakes head* ...

I'm not sure what Trump meant when he talked about sending in the feds to Chicago, but whatever can be done to stop the carnage should be done. We lost more American citizens to murder in Chicago than soldiers in Iraq in the same time period (2003-2011) and the numbers just keep going up. It's a bloodbath. ... an ongoing bloodbath of murder and mayhem, and anything the federal government can do to restore order and safety should be done.

Personally, I think the governor should call out the Illinois National Guard and post a whole battalion of them in the worst areas. I could see the federal government "federalizing" those troops which means that the federal government would take over the expense of paying and supplying them. This would not solve the root problems, but it might at least save lives.

 

Not in my universe had he done anything but harm the US and it standings in the world.

What is Trump going to do? He says he will "send in the feds", what does that mean? Is it that he will boost the number of DEA and FBI working in Chicago in order to assist the Chicago police? Or does Trump mean he will send in masses of federal officials and take over law enforcement in Chicago?

Even though Trump is vague right now, I am concerned about Trump - and I support him although cautiously so far. The trend for all Presidents has been to expand federal power, particularly the power of the President. Bush grossly exceeded his Constitutional authority, obama pushed it to the point of the President becoming a King, if Trump continues the trend the nation is finished even if Trump is a "benevolent dictator" because the next President likely will be a tyrant.

 

The MSM showing its true bias claimed that Spicer was talking only about those people in WDC. Spicer clearly stated "the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe" - and he was correct. The incorrect facts were presented by the Media (who also claimed that the bust of MLK had been removed). The alternative to that incorrect statement was the truth which Spicer stated. All this shows is another manifestation of the Trump Derangement Syndrome which is well represented on this forum.

 

It's only bad if "the other guy" does it.

Trump is committed and will do something to stop the carnage in Chicago. That is something that no one in the D party has expressed or pledged to stop. He will work with or force in some way Mayor Emanuel to request federal assistance to solve the problem. Jeff Sessions will do what is necessary to get this done within the confines of the Constitution. D's talk about the Constitution and then trample it. R's care about the Constitution and follow it.

 

Thanks to Obamanomics. But Mexico lets illegals from Central America across their southern border and then gives them 30 days to get to the US border where they cross. It's the illegal immigration from Central America that is the problem.

The Dillinger and Barrow gangs had a handful of people in them at the most, certainly under 100 even when you include their extensive families, not all of whom wanted anything to do with them. Hoover's real genius was to take his mind bogglingly (*)(*)(*)(*) poor performance and turn the Dillinger/Barrow fiascos into stories which had his men hunting down superhumans instead of being made to look ridiculous by a few second rate thugs

I do though. Where do you live? How often do you travel? Do you even know one person affected by this stuff?

 

This is how I feel about the entirety of the Immigration "issue". I don't know even one IMMIGRANT let alone somebody whose job they take. I realize that is the weakness of anecdotal experience, that everybody's varies widely, but given all the fuss rightists make over it you'd think most everyone would be able to have some horror story to tell.

To begin the process, yes, tough measures taken to start the ball rolling. But if the root of why these things happen doesn't get fixed, it will only materialize all over again.
As for the costs, I don't see any proof, where's the studies proving out the costs of illegals or the cost of criminals?

Get tough on crime. Jail will have to be part of it.

But the root of the problem must be dealt with. Or it will come back and be the same in a few years.

 

It is humanly possible to clean up the gangs in Chicago, but in actuality, it can't be done. Chicago can't be made as safe as it was in the 1940's.

Only a massive, crushing intervention of police and military could do it, but then only if the current laws were changed that protect criminals.

When a large percent of the population in the bad areas supports the drug/welfare entitlement/#BLM/gang culture---there won't be any real change.

 

Seems that at my age I still do a bit of traveling through the fly over country, from NYC to Florida or to Montana along the Interstates like the 95, 81 or 80 etc.
