The reality of the con is sinking in

One element of *President Trump’s budget proposal could sharply reduce funding for Meals on Wheels, which delivers nearly a million meals a day to the sick and elderly.

At lunchtime, Meals on Wheels volunteer Sandra Bush makes visits to 18 seniors in Macon, Georgia. One of them is Sandra Deshazer, who said her arthritis makes it difficult to cook.

“If you didn’t have this service?” CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller asked Deshazer.

“It would be really bad because people like myself, I don’t walk or drive any more,” Deshazer said.

“They just can’t afford to go to the grocery store and buy all the things they need,” Bush said. “They have to depend on someone else.”

It works for 56-year-old Linda Preast, who signed up for the program two years ago after a stroke left her in a wheelchair. Meals on Wheels delivers to her every weekday. Like most residents in Jones County, she voted for Donald Trump.

    “Are you surprised?” Miller asked.

“Yeah,” Preast said. “Because he was told- I was under the influence that he was going to help us.” :spin:

I think providing meals to sick and elderly is greatly needed, but it's not the job of the federal gov't. It needs to be on a local or possibly state level. We have something similar in a nearby small town, but it's all local.

I thought the same, they thought he would give them more? The more cuts I read about, I had no idea we were throwing so many federal tax dollars at taking care of people and art. That's not the job of the federal gov't. I'm glad Trump is trimming it up.

People who think the federal government should run everything are people who don't understand why the nation was formed as the UNITED STATES.

I feel sorry for all those duped. If they had looked carefully, they would have seen that there was nothing at all in his past that would indicate he cared about anything other than himself. Zero public service of any kind.
Yes, he said many pleasant things - often the opposite of what he's said before, but as he picked his cabinet of the corrupt, the incompetent, the super-rich, it should be pretty clear that these will be great times for the top 1-2% only.

Caveat emptor ....................... let the buyer beware.

I heard this week that the fed gov't only contributes 3 percent of the meal on wheels spending, the rest is private donations. If true, this is much ado about nothing, right?

3% certainly wouldn't shut it down, so why the fear mongering as if they will die in the streets from starvation? Cut out the extra pack of crackers. Budget saved.

Meals on Wheels will find it's way back in... it's only 3 million or something...... Besides, a Billionaire might end up funding... Like Bill Gates.

    MSM is just fearmongering.

Here we go again from right-wing socialists:
Socialism for the rich is good.
Socialism for the poor is bad.
Right-wing socialists prove it everyday: The US is not a Christian country.

I think Trump was probably shooting off his mouth again.. and won't cut Meals on Wheels. The program delivers a lot of bang for the buck.

The answer is YES....I am mean a big YES. The question is when didn't the corporate welfare queen, Crooked Donnie, and his fellow con artists did not
promote the welfare class by their desire to keep wages low in order to socialize business costs? Low wages means more welfare by taxpayers. It is time
to send corporations the bill if their employees receive any kind of governmental assistance.

Under your scenario, when natural disasters occur anywhere within the US, the Fed's should not give funding to assist them with rebuilding and/or other needed services instead having the state(s) assume full responsibility for rebuilding/other needed services.

I knew it was coming. There could be 30 threads about various cuts and someone will always starting whining about "corporate welfare". Doesn't matter what the topic is, we still hear the cries about "corporate welfare!". If I was to post about rape, would you then cry that people are murdered so we shouldn't worry about rape?

The point is, that just because there is something else wrong with gov't spending (and not all forms of what you consider corporate welfare are bad, especially when they promote job growth), doesn't mean we should not be tackling lots of other areas of wasteful spending. We spend TRILLIONS of individual forms of welfare, cuts must be made. Deal with it and quit whining about other things that have nothing to do with the topic.

You don't think there is a difference between a large natural disaster and daily meals?

Natural disasters incur a huge expense suddenly and unexpectedly. Someone's lunch does not. The federal gov't is necessary but not for serving lunches.

I would be considered "elderly" and I still cook and enjoy cooking.. but I have older friends who are basically shut-ins and they don't cook anymore. Meals on Wheels helps them and does a helluva job.

What ever happen to the good ol days where organization like the Lions club, Masonic lodge, eagles, young at heart and dozens of religious and other charitable community orientated clubs would donate time, money, food, Not cool anymore?

These organization "In my experience" growing up were predominantly conservative thinkers with the exception of religious groups and those folks would donate those same services everyday without a question. Don't look now but your community socialism is not so social! Extra work cooking in a parish center kitchen, OH HELL NO! Volunteering to deliver food to the needy, OH HELL NO! Donate "YOUR" money to the community centers to help provide for your neighbors, OH HELL NO!

Socialist America is "TAX the working people" assign the Gubmint to provide and deliver so the Libby's will have more FREE time to dismantle all the old community organizations that used to fill the gap the Gubmint didn't cover.
