It didn't work because (1) they still have a violent crime rate that is equal or worse than before the ban and (2) we could easily end up like Mexico rather than the UK.

We can't have one without guns either. Even the country with the most strictest of gun laws allow the police and military to have guns.

Here, yeah hang around the wrong bars and say the wrong thing and you could get punched but far far less likely to be shot than in the USA

Australia has more privately owned guns than it did before the mandatory buy back. The only reason why people complied in those countries is because the people didn't value their right to keep and bear arms as we do. You didn't see massive rallies with signs saying "come and take it" and "don't tread on me." New York is on the top ten list of liberal states and when they implemented a mandatory registration of so called assault rifles they had a very low turn out.

That's why I don't go to bars where gangs and drug runners hand out. If you aren't a black male, involved in crime, associated with criminals or in a violent domestic relationship, your chances of being shot are almost negligible.

Ah, your appeal to emotion. It doesn't change the facts. Please also let the Lin family know that hammers are almost never used in mass murders, or the families of those killed in the Melbourne car attack in January that at least it wasn't a gun. I'm sure the surviving child of the Cairns child stabbings will take some consolation in the fact that his seven siblings age 18 months to fifteen years weren't shot.

 

I wish the Newtown murders were that rare

 

That doesn't address either of my objections. The UK is still as violent as it was before the handgun ban.

 

How many mass shootings of children in an elementary school have their been in the last 25 years? How many children have died in car accidents over that same time period.

 

But still far far higher than here in Australia or the UK

 

They are rarer than the ones that occur in the EU.
