New York, New York. So nice they say it twice. But it’s apparently not nice enough anymore for people to want to stick around. The NY Post highlights some recent population figures which indicate that a growing number of Gotham residents (that would be rapidly growing) either don’t want to live there anymore or simply can’t afford to. In either case, there’s a bit of an exodus going on and the Big Apple is losing residents faster than any other major metropolitan area in the country.

More people are leaving the New York region than any other major metropolitan area in the country.
More than 1 million people moved out of the New York area to other parts of the country since 2010, a rate of 4.4 percent — the highest negative net migration rate among the nation’s large population centers, US Census records show.
The number of people leaving the region — which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island — in one year swelled from 187,034 in 2015 to 223,423 in 2016, while the number of international immigrants settling in the tristate area dwindled from 181,551 to 160,324 over the same period, records show.

More than a million people in six years is not normal ebb and flow. To be fair, we should emphasize the fact that this isn’t just New York City… it includes the outlying areas of New Jersey and the inner reach of Long Island. It also doesn’t include the rest of New York State. (You know… the unfashionable, more rural upstate region where I live.)

Like a metastasizing cancer they are spreading from the West and now from the East. Taxes out in rural areas are no better.
Gonna have to blow the bridges an tunnels to keep them in. Escape from New York time. Where's Kurt Russell?

I grew up in NJ a mile from Manhattan, and for the life of me I can't understand why people would live in Manhattan or a mile from it.

I was born in Williamsburg, worked and lived most of my life in the city. Moved upstate 17 years ago. Best move I ever made.

We're building a wall in Florida...... and shutting down the airports in Broward and Dade County. Mind you, the wall is in Broward County. That and the Glades will have to protect the rest of north Florida. :roflol:

its not even a good place to visit, most of the city sucks, the rest of it sucks more. Can't wait for New York to raise taxes to 90% or depend on the tax revenue of illegals to pay their union costs.

That city sucks ass. I went once, felt like a caged animal until the time we left there. I've never felt such anxiety and depression. Full of *******s and crazy people. I laugh every time I see a "I love NYC" bumpersticker. I'd like to have their car impounded and shipped back with them inside of it.

Good. Maybe we can take some of their electoral votes away soon.

    Ehhhhh, I don't know...

NY went 4.5 million Hillary vs 2.8 for Trump.
(It was only basically ~8 districts in the entire State that were solid blue.)

As for their Senate seat basically the entire State went blue.
(They voted against a WOMAN, hehe, sexists!)

Plus you gotta figure that for every 1 American that leaves NY state there will be at least 3 illegals making their way into cities like NTC, Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester.

And given the way the state voted its highly likely that 1 American leaving will be a Leftist who is just might be moving to a Red state/city and screw things up there.

I'd rather we not allow Democrat voters to leave the state/cities in which they empowered Democrats when the reason for leaving is because of how the Democrats run things.

    That's what Chicago did.....

You gotta pay 3 tolls to get in or out of the city.

That means that only NYC voting and no one else counted. The population of NYC is 8,5 million while the state population is 19 million.

My area has been getting a rising supply of retirees from that area. You can live like a king off a New York pension in the south. We are the new Mexico I guess :alien:

Sounds like that area is balancing out. What would you like, more people moving there? It's crowded enough.

They could really jack up the ransom/tolls to get out of Chicago now.

LOL! Well, I like the song. "Kansas City, Kansas City, here I come! Got some pretty little women there and ... ."

Which of course begs the question: Kansas City Kansas or Kansas City Missouri? ;-)

I love the city...get there as often as possible...during the summer months, as often as once a week.

Always something doing...always fun being had.

Central Park...one of the great spots of the world. Almost everything along the Hudson River from The Heights on down to Battery Park.

My wife and I take cruises on the Hudson...Jazz cruises that are wonderful.

Sorry all you people have such a negative attitude toward it...but...some people are just negative...no matter what.

Kids playing on the wonderful statue of Alice in Central Park!

Ddyad: Nice shuck and jive. On another note, my son in Manhattan is perfectly fine with the population dropping some. He isn't exactly "shocked." More like, "relieved." We love visiting there, it's America's greatest city, of course.

'Manhattan the city where everyone can 'relieve' themselves right on the streets!'

Sing it loud - for the tourists. ;-)
