Isn't that one of the major ideas of the Bible, especially in the Old Testament? A particular group of people, for some reason, became involved with a deity. Sometimes they were obedient and other times they were rebellious and lost their faith in the deity. But, while the deity would get ticked off and punish and even kill them, he never lost his faith in them. So his faith made up for their lack of faith and he always forgave them. That idea is also reinforced in the Jewish Babylonian Talmud which says that no rabbi can ever go to hell because his good deeds far outweigh all of his bad deeds, no matter how bad his bad deeds are.

I guess I can't be that hypocritical......which is one of the reasons I'm an atheist.

If the universe and time is infinite, then anything is possible. Like chimps typing out the complete works of Shakespeare So, there would be a chance for even that god to exist. I just heard Krause a physicist and atheists say this about chimps. It seems infinity gets rid of your "no chance" Just the mathematical facts, ma'am. Oh, not sure if that is how Krause spells his name. I just guessed. Might be Krauss. Or Crouse, or even Crap.

But I sure hope that god of the OT does not exist. LOL. Look at what he did to Job as He and Satan were playing around with old Job. Not my idea of someone I want to spend eternity with.

I don't see that as the correct compromise. I don't care whether a Christian or a Muslim or a pagan has 1% doubts. That doesn't really address any issue we face.

What I DO care about is that when the question is one of how things work on earth, we accept the evidence of observations we make. That is, we accept science in those questions.

On the other side, I fully recognize that there is NO way science can take a position on the existence or nonexistence of a god. Science depends on observation, and it just isn't constructed to be able to address the supernatural.

I see the story of Job as a lesson in obedience to the First and Second Commandments found in Exodus 34:11-17. It's a contrast to the Adam & Eve story as well. It's personalized with Job and his wife and buddies.

Everyday countless people experience the disasters that Job suffered. But Job held fast to his faith and never took the easy way out even when others urged him to do so. So when you think about Job think about how you will react to disasters. Will you become depressed to the point of suicide or start using drugs to ease your pains? Or will you try to work through it by holding on to your core values and keep on trying to improve your condition?

At this very minute numerous people are experiencing the very things that Job suffered. How will they react?

Actually, only the individual can know for certain he is forgiven. ...and even then, he must be honest with himself. Others will know him by his fruits. When one "believes" there is a turning a way from sin, a regeneration. Though the flesh may be weak and prone to sin, the spirit will refuse to "walk in sin".Scripture gives us many promises. "He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it". "If any man be in Christ he is a new creature. Old things are passed away, all things become new."

Can you give an example of one thing Jesus wouldn't do?

Jesus wouldn't give large tax breaks to the wealthy to be paid for by denying health care to those with need.

We're only forgiven if we ask God for forgiveness with genuine remorse and repentance in our hearts like the guy crucified on the cross next to Jesus. Facing the awful finality of death he said to Jesus-"Please don't forget me", and Jesus replied "Today you'll be with me in paradise"

Didn't Jesus personally heal people who had major disabilities? I think he said that true believers could do that as well, Mark 16:17-18. So why would anyone need health care? Priests and preachers should be healing people by anointing them with special oil and praying over them as it says in James 5:14-15.

That doesn't make any sense. Can you qualify in any way what you just said?

Yup, I bet when staring at death he got all repentant all repentant...after a life of doing what he damn pleased , harming others, ruining others lives or just not caring what problems his actions caused others and being a general PIA he's forgiven and to hell with those he harmed...Bad System.

Not everybody repents when staring death in the face, for example of the two guys on the crosses next to Jesus, only one showed genuine remorse, the other presumably didn't give a damn.
Same with violent Brit criminal Mad Frankie Fraser, he was saying in interviews right to the end of his life that he had no regrets for anything he'd done.
And the murderous king in Hamlet had a crack at praying for forgiveness but gave up on it because he knew it wasn't genuine remorse- "My words fly up, but my thoughts stay below"

That doesn't refute a word of my post you quoted:

""Yup, I bet when staring at death he got all repentant all repentant...after a life of doing what he damn pleased , harming others, ruining others lives or just not caring what problems his actions caused others and being a general PIA he's forgiven and to hell with those he harmed...Bad System."""

I was addressing the FACT that you said repentance gets you off the hook...I was not talking about those who didn't really mean it.

So maybe you think that's funny because you have lead a "holy life" yourself. (I doubt it.) Seriously, read the story of the "prodical son". The older son thought he was blameless and was scornful at the fathers rejoicing when the younger son repented of his wasteful living. The father put him in his place. You need to allow room for those that repent. If they are faking it, and some are, wouldn't you think that doesn't get past Jesus? Jesus is where your eyes should be....not the shallow behavior of others.

Where did I say or even indicate I lead a "holy" life....I'm an atheist, "holy" is only for "Holy cow!"

I did like your ever-so -Christian judgmental snide remark, "I doubt it".

...and I believe the word is "prodigal"...

..and,as usual, you did nothing to refute the post of mine you quoted :

""Ya, ya, ya they usually get that way right before they're coming up for a parole hearing..."I found jesus so let me out":roflol:""

    That's what they do...you haven't proved they don't...

The important question (to me) is what comes next.

That is, do we accept the results of evidence based exploration of our universe? Do we seek out and depend on the results of that exploration when we make public policy decisions?

I said nothing "snide". By saying that, "your all knowing attitude" shows a lack of understanding. Christians believe this... "ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God". "no one is Holy, no not one." You mock.

I would just be happy to let those that believe continue to do so and those that do not believe continue that.

Unfortunately, far to many are so concerned with what others believe that they try to force their beliefs on others.

If what you conceive to be true is so rock solid, just leave others alone. I do, and I am an atheist.

"Before a person is repentant, he denies or excuses or justifies the sinfulness of his own heart. A well-known pastor who preaches a false gospel recently stated, “I’m very proud of who I am…. I have not broken a single one of the Ten Commandments. I have not broken any of the teachings of Jesus Christ, and so I’m proud of my faith and my message.” It is clear that that man does not know Jesus Christ, because the Bible says, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us” (1 John 1:10). Those who have truly repented before God have confessed their sin and their need for a Savior. They have given up all false hopes for right standing before God, whether it be their own religious heritage, their good deeds, or their good intentions. As Charles Spurgeon put it, “You will be as surely damned by your righteousness, if you trust in it, as you will by your unrighteousness"

...basically no one will get off the hook with insincerity or false repentance.

    Sorry for that;-)

Sometimes the truth just needs to be stated instead of all the rhetoric.
